  • @JoyDivisiongirl if u love the bass bow down to hookey

  • well, not the Nazi camp, that was evil, I meant the band. (For all you Joy Division NOOBS!!!!)

  • I LOVE JOY DIVISION!!!! :D

  • amazing and awesome

  • silesian pictures und sound

  • who is singing??

  • @crassadict211 who do you think..it is Ian Curtis...does not sound like his older stuff but this is the earlier music...amazing!

  • Joy Division's music was truly wierd. But I love it.

  • Great, great job on this video. Perfectly evokes the feeling of the music. Kudos, makky.

  • @maxjhogan Cheers bud.

  • YES!!! MY THOUGHTS, ENTIRELY. BETTER THAN JOY DIVISION

  • Who gives a fuck. Oh did I SAY that?

  • the perfect union of mind l instruments

  • Just stfu and listen.

  • ITS crazy how its not even pst-punk that they made its more like a dance punk because if you notice the bassist peter hook would snap on some catchy dance beat but well my opinion is that joy division was the best band and the second best is misfits but joy division fan til i die!!!!!!!!!

  • The changed their name because there was already a pretty well established punk band named Warsaw Pact, they changed it to avoid confusion on the bill. A bunch of angry working class oi punks coming and seeing joy division by accident might not have ended well...though in the Warsaw days, they were a bit more heavy and experimental, especially live. Might have gone over well.

  • @KazakageoftheSand, there was a band called Warsaw Pakt, Joy Division changed there name from Warsaw to prevent confusion with them, i'm not sure it was because of copyright though, seriously look up the name Warsaw Pakt and you will see what were talking about.

  • @TripleBuggerOff i thought people we talking about the warsaw pact as in the treaty.... lol. what you're saying makes sense

  • @ChanterLaChanson, I know, i'm defending your position

  • @KazakageoftheSand, @ChanterLaChanson is refering to the the band Warsaw Pakt (1977-78), not the actual Warsaw Pact (notice the k), Joy Division changed there name from Warsaw in 1977 to prevent being confused with Warsaw Pakt.

  • @TripleBuggerOff thanks for clearing that up, but they did change their name because of warsaw pakt thats what im saying

  • @ChanterLaChanson no they didn't.

  • @KazakageoftheSand They did if Warsaw Pakt wasnt formed before Joy Division, they wouldnt have changed their name

  • @ChanterLaChanson that's so ignorant

  • @KazakageoftheSand If you say so mate

  • @ChanterLaChanson way to bring up something that happened months ago

  • @KazakageoftheSand soz man I just discovered it in my inbox, and well I didn't want to be rude

  • @ChanterLaChanson oh well in that case i appreciate it

  • well done

  • well done

  • @SCHNKHOUSE well done in deed

  • watch?v=l5zFsy9VIdM

This song propably inspired No Love Lost..check bass line especially at the end song

  • @krysotof bloody doubtful. that song came out in 1977.....

  • @KazakageoftheSand watch?v=EDtFTysmExg&feature=related really ? 1975

  • They changed their name from Warsaw to Joy Division because of Warsaw Pakt :)

  • @ChanterLaChanson no way. the warsaw pact was made in the 50's >.>. how would that have affected the name of the band?

  • @KazakageoftheSand doesn't matter what decade a band was made in, for example if someone started calling themselves the beatles it still counts as copyright

  • @ChanterLaChanson the warsaw pact is a treaty not a band O_O you can't have copyright infringement on a political treaty O_O

  • Is that Ian Curtis singing?

  • @yetimichael yeah, this was before ian sang in his signature baritone voice.

  • one of my favourite tracks but i swear this is when they were warsaw

  • I like this song - here is where they turn the corner, from being the sex pistol's poor northern cousins to something much more distinctive and profound.

  • I like this - here you can see them turn the corner from a mediocre northern sex pistols copycat band into something distinctive and much more profound. I think I got that off one of those video documentaries, but it makes a lot of sense when applied to this song in particular.

  • Cool video man.

  • when you guys argue it makes me sad

  • I just heard a cover of this song on House. Surprising but welcome.

  • Joy Division rules. Always. There are no other artists out there like them. I love how Ian had different singing voices. For instance, "Love Will Tear Us Apart," apparently Ian was trying to be more like Frank Sinatra. ;)

  • In addition to the above... you guys SUCK; lol. Nice song btw.

  • WARSZAWA!

  • makky123. Great visuals and great tunes. Any chance of making it available on mobile? I think you have to turn on syndication.... Thanks!

  • This song is The Velvet Underground evolved.

  • i like your channl it was hard to find in the dark but im blind no just kiding

  • whos that singing :O

  • - 21 !

  • JOY DIVISION aleluyaa !!!

  • HOUSE OF DOLLS read it

  • HOUSE OF DOLLS read it.

  • HOUSE OF DOLLS read it

  • Is this the song, when Ian goes to work with 'HATE' on a back of his coat? (In CONTROL movie)

  • @Jochimo It is mate, yeah!

  • @Jochimo i think it was interzone actually go listen to it and see if it sounds right to you i think its right but i'm not possitive

  • not a bad band eh??-don't matter which name you use-can even throw in The Stiff Kittens for all i care.....

  • stupenda!!!

  • A study has recently come out suggesting that it may in fact be hazardous to your health to not listen to this song at maximum volume.

  • just perfect , Warsaw or Joy division no matter ...

  • Favorite Joy Division song ever!

  • This song is absolutly amazing.

  • Did Ian sing this? His voice always sounds lower than on this song..

  • @charliegrs yes he did.

  • @charliegrs

it was recorded before he learned how to sing in his signature baritone voice

  • I need it.

  • Un-fucking-believably amazing.

  • @robertokeano spot on mate

  • orgasmic.

  • I second the comparisons to early CAN. Both phenomenal bands.

  • Rest easy, Ian

  • Love this song! R.I.P Ian Curtis....

  • this was Warsaw not Joy Division - both versions

not that it matters - no one knows them as Warsaw so maybe it's all the same that everything ends up listed as Joy Division - still, maybe there should be some respect for what they chose to call themselves at the time

  • @MultiNickDanger The Warsaw version is earlier than this one, they recorded this version on an ideal for living just after they became Joy division.

  • @makky123

not trying to start a huge debate, and in a way we're both right - but i was a teenager at the time, and heavily into the scene - all tracks on An Ideal For Living were recorded when the band was still called Warsaw - the original version was recorded as a single in early '77, this version was recorded in Dec 1977, An Ideal For Living was released January 1978, they decided on the name-change just a few days prior to release - so it was recorded by Warsaw, released by Joy Division

  • @makky123 Yeah makky123 is right. there are extra verses on the warsaw version.

  • @makky123 lol this is first version, that version was released on ideal for living. The older one from 1978 was recorded in 'poor quality of sound' arrow studio. Lenghts of this version is about 4:54

  • @makky123

Warsaw's version sucks compared to this one. Where did you find this version? Which CD?

  • @NintendoSegaSonyGuy- 'Ideal for living', It's also on 'Substance'.

  • @makky123 yeah i learned this off substance

  • @MultiNickDanger also their changing name to joy division was regarded as an act to reflect the bands work previous and future, so i'm sure none of joy division would object to all their songs being labelled joy division.

  • Comment removed

  • @MultiNickDange A question.. were they not called warsaw pact?

  • @comacful Nah, Warsaw Pakt were a different band.

  • @MultiNickDanger

To clarify, makky123 is kinda correct. However, this version was recorded while they were still called Warsaw, and released after they'd changed the name to Joy Division. Basically it's only a matter of a month or two, it's just semantics. Still, they had a reason for calling the band Warsaw, and I choose to acknowledge the vision of artists over politicians, or even the business decisions of the very artists themselves.

  • Comment removed

  • @MultiNickDanger It's Joy Division, Mr. I Think I know Everything. The Warsaw version is much different. Go fuck yourself, pretentious asshat.

  • @thoughtcrimer Well said.

  • @thoughtcrimer keep it cool and flowing i know its hard to do thanx for saing it

  • @thoughtcrimer

This was recorded in December 1977, right as Warsaw transformed into Joy Division. The May 1978 RCA Studios Joy Division version was recorded later, and it sounds much different than this one. The RCA version was eventually released on album entitled "Warsaw", but it's still Joy Division.

If anything, this is the Warsaw version and the other version is the Joy Division version. :P

  • Eventhough "Closer" is the ultimate. "Substance" had so much energy that the later Joy Division did not have.

  • Great band, great voice, great lyrics, great music.

  • best ever tune in the world............

  • Who cares about how many likes and dislikes there are??? This is Joy Division we're talking about here. Joy Division is BEAST, nuff said.

  • The guitar tone in this song will never be bested.

  • i didn't know this song and i'm really pleased ! please stay arounf joy division, don't fight, it's ridiculus, reading your comments, enjoy the music !....

  • i <3 joy division

  • Spoken extract from the book 'House of Dolls' (2nd verse):

Through the wire screen, the eyes of those standing outside looked in at her as into the cage of some rare creature in a zoo. In the hand of one of the assistants she saw the same instrument which they had that morning inserted deep into her body. She shuddered instinctively. No life at all in the house of dolls. No love lost. No love lost.

  • passaionant?

  • @marcaholic asshole?

  • who gives a fuck about justin bieber shut the fuck up im tired of everyone bitching about how shitty poplar music is. the people that arent being pleased by todays music need to go out and form a band it dosent matter if you cant play an instrumnt as long as you are passaionant about the music you are preforming people will be impressed and there will be a new great age of music we just have to go out and make things happen instead of bitching about how things suck.

  • @Johnnyo743 Exactly mate, People don't seem to realise that any recognition of him weather it's negative or not- means he wins,it's all exposure. If people just ignore his existence he'll soon disapear.I'm so sick of comments saying "654 people are justin bieber fans" or whatever, and it's always the highest rated comment, people are so fucking boring.

  • @makky123 I know but a new great age is coming i know its the nature of the universe we have to remeber that after the dark ages there is always a Renaissance

  • @makky123 Agreed on the Justin Bieber bollocks...ffs just listen to the mighty Curtis. peace

  • @XHeath86 who gives a fuck about justin bieber shut the fuck up im tired of everyone bitching about how shitty poplar music is. the people that arent being pleased by todays music need to go out and form a band it dosent matter if you cant play an instrumnt as long as you are passaionant about the music you are preforming people will be impressed and there will be a new great age of music we just have to go out and make things happen instead of bitching about how things suck.

  • @Johnnyo743 Who asked for your opinion. Did i ask for your opinion? if you actually even bothered to read my comment correctly dickhead. I was just concurring with another dudes opinion. And for your information, i don't mind todays music scene, theres alot of talent about. And theres only one person bitching here and thats you.

  • @makky123 ha, the funniest 2 things in this whole arguement are:

    1) 2\3 of the planet (or is it 3\4?) don't even know who he is

    2) he'll disappear soon enough, just like each and every other pop-star-made-yesy, take sugababes (or how's that written?), they've had fans and everything, and who remembers them now? nobody!

  • @theRavenTrue You remember the sugababes :P !

  • @vrieskip of corse i do, i'm not a brainwashed pop-fan...i'm sure that most rockers remember most "last season" pop stars when pop-fans in fact don't ;D

  • @makky123 SPEAK!

  • @makky123: true, but what if those people are opinionated, but not talented?

I would agree that people whinging about 'music these days' is old though. You look at the great records of the last decade and the same people mithering about 'no good music these days' are the least likely to get out and listen to anything new.

  • @makky123 i completely agree. also, there ARE really great bands out there today, obviously, that are genius and they're super popular. they may not be as famous as justin bieber or any other of these pop culture stars, but they are here and they deserve attention.

  • @Johnnyo743 i actually find the bitching hillarious, thats four videos in a row i've seen somone telling people to shut the fuck up about justin beiber XDD

  • @Johnnyo743 I love this comment, it made my day. thanks sir.

  • @Johnnyo743 I conccur says jackthedog38. let us all sound off like we all have a pair O nuts.!

  • Oh YAH !

  • Iv'e always thought it sounds more like early CAN than anything else...I really don't hear any similarities between this and Lady godiva's operation.

  • @makky123 Hey, Joy Division earns all their praise, but in regards to your (video) contribution: brilliant fucking job

  • This is totally referrencing Lady Godiva's Operation with some mean Link Wray riffage driving it. That's what I hear.

  • what velvet underground song is this a rip off of? this doesnt sound anything like lady godivas operation...

  • i like the part of the video with the girls face, for some reason it fits so perfectly at that moment when ian starts the little spoken word part! excellente!

  • @thoughtcrimer I'm the idiot? You bully people over YouTube...that kinda suggest idiocy to me. Nobody is putting up a decent fight against my comment anyway. Wow.

  • @cliklab Ahem. I never once said Joy Division are a derivative of Velvet Underground. I was comparing this song to the work of Velvet Underground. 'Lady Godiva's Operation', for example, is particularly reminiscent of this track, with the spoken word recital and all. Additionally the punchy vocals reminded me of Lou Reed. I think it's fair to say JD took a tip or two from VU when making their music. As they did The Doors, whatever. To say any artist sounds like nothing before is false.

  • @jessieintheskywith jessieintheskywithairbetweenherears

  • Such a Velvet Underground rip off. BUT I LOVE IT. <3 Division of Joy

  • @jessieintheskywith. That is an unfair misinformed assessment of this track. Without getting too academic, can you qualify your statement that No Love Lost is a "Velvet Underground rip off"? I can honestly say, no song written, performed or covered by Joy Division has sounded like anything I'd ever heard before. Their cover of Sister Ray is the most sincere recording/performance of a Velvet Underground. With that said, to imply Joy Division is derivative of Velvet Underground is out-of-line.

  • Godlike Geniuses

  • I love the band and this song is a fav.Good vid too ;)

  • Through the wire screen, the eyes of those standing outside looked in

at her as into the cage of some rare creature in a zoo.

In the hand of one of the assistants she saw the same instrument

which they had that morning inserted deep into her body. She shuddered

instinctively. No life at all in the house of dolls.

No love lost. No love lost.

  • by far my favorite joy division song. post-punk at it's best.

  • best tune ever
