love it man. After much debate I am scrapping the 951 turbo motor build and picking up a LS1 on Monday. Thinking about picking the brand new FAST 92 intake the guy has as well. How has the conversion been for you?
@the951racer If you liked that video, then I'm sure you loved the autocross videos! The conversion has been great! I currently have the car torn apart to perform a dual master cylinder brake upgrade that will hopefully help me shave some time off in the autocross. I'm also replacing 28 year old torque tube bearings, not because of the conversion, but because I was noticing a rumble even with the stock engine. The LSX is PERFECT for the 944! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!!
@SIKES619 Not sure about the LS1 without some minor frame modifications if you decide to run air conditioned. But you should be able to put a SBC in without a problem. Check out our website: 944hybrids forumotion com
all these "other" cars are ones ive built jackass. i own the civic i built it for my friend he paid me to and then he sold it to me for cheap. not seeing isnt not believing you ricer. just cause it isnt there doesnt mean it doesnt work.
@Jlizel Yeah, but you can see my work - the only 'work' I've seen from you is that poor little 4-banger struggling to run (video conveniently removed). You call me a ricer? Now ain't that the pot calling the kettle black (no pun intended). Well, short of me coming to Colorado Springs to make you look worse than you do right now, this is a waste of time - come talk to me when you've built something worthy of further commentary (video helps)
@nsaneon i have plenty of videos to prove my work ive built that civic and right now it would destroy your porsche my curb weight is 2265lbs with me in it with 628whp at 20lbs maxxed out on 80% duty cycle on injectors and 2lbs below the turbo's max ill destroy you. not bragging (just stating facts)
@Jlizel Yawwwwnnn - but seeing is believing. You can see what I've done by myself, between raising children and working a 40+ hour work week. All that we've had the 'pleasure' of seeing was that poor little four banger fighting for life. You're starting to bore me - you're more than welcome to stay and rant, but don't expect me to respond until you've done something tangible that's worth talking about
@Jlizel I think I'll leave your post up just to show how ignorant you sound. Are you jealous that you cannot afford to undertake such a project, or are you just afraid that your'e not wiring savvy/lacking the prerequisite mechanical skill needed to complete the task? Do you really feel the need to compensate for your shortcomings by riduculing other's acheivements - if so, I'll put my LS1/944 up against your 200SX anyday (uhhh - once you get yours running again).
@nsaneon havent put up a new vid yet but im hitting 12lbs my car runs just fine i wired it myself so you can stick to your outdated shitbox bankrupt chevy garbage. it doesnt take skill to throw an ls1 into anything trust me ive seen it done i have friends with 240sx's with ls1's they are garbage. im an automotive graduate but what do you do? jack shit.
@Jlizel Probably need the 12lbs just to get it out of the driveway, eh? You still hate to admit that my 'outdated shitbox' could beat you off the line and through the twisties without having to leave second gear. Maybe you should try an LS1 swap - at least you won't be seeing nothing but taillights all the time. Some automotive graduate you are if you have to post a video on YouTube asking for help as to why you have no spark - time to ask for a refund!
@Jizel Oh and for what I do - I put my life on the line in the military to keep loudmouth punks like you safe so you can sit in your parent's house and badmouth people you know nothing about. I'm retired now and probably make more than you will ever make in your entire sorry existence - you don't need to know what I do, you probably wouldn't understand - much less spell it.
@nsaneon you dont make shit for money military gets stiffed and im glad they do, anyone can sign a paper and go to a fully funded paid for doing nothing military but firing a gun and being a body in a herd.
@Jlizel Didn't you listen, or did that PepBoys fartcan exhaust make you deaf? I said I'm retired from the military - with the skills I learned, I'm making a comfortable living - if anything, it taught me about things larger than myself; obviously something you still need to learn about.
@nsaneon i figured it out myself champ you had your buddy (the one in the begging video to be selected for bullrun) probably help you with your car and your probably twice my age in your 50's i know just as much shit as you and im young. my shit will bury your nose heavy porsche in corners you probably have no idea what steering geometry and caster combinations are you just think putting coils on a car makes it handle. im not some kid that pisses on his balls like you think. ive built tonso shit
@Jlizel Nope - all of the work is done by myself, the 'buddy' is my brother and is on the other side of the country. Your shit is just that: shit - and that goes for what you 'think' you know.
@Jlizel ...what happened? Were you so proud of your automotive graduate 'status' that you took down your video asking the general public how to fix your ignition problem? Maybe the school you went to was so embarrassed that they told you to take it down. Good going kid.
@nsaneon no i fixed the problem myself so i dont need help it eliminates the significance of the video since i dont need help i figured it out on my own
You call a 240sx with a ls1 swap garbage, I think the real problem here is that they smoke you and your just jealous. A ls1 weighs the same if not less then the turd of a motor that was in the porchse and the same for the 240sx. Its all aluminum and makes double the power in stock form, and can be found for a couple grand in a wrecked vette, camaro/trans am. I truly believe you just get butt hurt by the ls1's, and you've just got to come here and disrespect this guys hard work.
@97Camaroowner no ive come to put piece of shit american engineering in its place it took chevy so long to develop fuel injection for the ls engine they are way behind times. and with it being aluminum it still weighs more than my little cast iron 4 cylinder and my car makes close to the same power for half the money ive spent a little under 2 grand and i make 400whp
Um, I do hope your kidding me. Did you just say that it took so long to develop fuel injection for the ls series engines. Fuel injection has always been around, thats how a engine works. So I do hope that you men't electronic fuel injection. Which has been around on gm vehicles since 85 or so starting with the l98 v8. I'm assuming your referring to the coil packs, as in the computer firing the cylinders, instead of a mechanism such as a distributor.
@97Camaroowner ya im talking about coil packs distributors and single wire coils are old pointless outdated shit. im talking about the ls1 strictly the ls series. nissan and mitsubishi built cars before the us did. they invented that shit when they put it in planes especially in the ones bombing the fuck out of pearl harbor. it takes our giant ass USA to compete with a 60 mile long continent because they are so hard to fight and stuff you know. *sarcasm*
Yea what delusional land do you live in buddy gm has been around long then both Nissan and Mitsubishi. Gm was founded in 1908, and both Nissan and Mitsubishi didn't show up until the thirties. And even then Mitsubishi didn't make vehicles until the 70's. And just in case you decided to go and say they were before Chevrolet, ill let you know that Chevrolet was founded in 1911. And what kind of a cunt are you, making puns with pearl harbor. I see that there is something extremely wrong with you.
And just to let you now the first distributor-less ignition system using coils, was invented and utilized by the Germans in the forties, not the chinks. So thank BMW for that.
@Jlizel The 97 ls1 vette was the first to have a computer running both the fuel and firing order. And for your information a fully dressed ls1 with fluids weighs around 420 pounds, and if i remember correctly your ca18det weighs 450 pounds. And sorry to bust your bubble but pushing 12 psi you are not making 450 -475 horsepower at the crank. You'd be luck to make 340, unless you've got some head that flows and ungodly amount. Which I doubt seeing your two thousand dollar budget.
@97Camaroowner well considering my stock head and dual cams can flow well above 9k rpms stock hmmmm. i port and polished and port matched my head, gt4076r, deutchwerks 880cc injectors (overkill), blitz tuned ecu q45 maf and 90mm throttle body yes you heard me 90mm tb bigger than your ls1 gay shit all nissan oem stuff besides injectors and turbo. stock internals my engine is an 87 ca18det rs-x s12 silvia and i have multiport injection and coilpacks your gm shit took 15 years to make
@97Camaroowner Oh look! Jlizel can rattle off parts too!! I find it interesting that all of the videos on his channel are of other guys cars - I'm really curious to see this beast of automotive engineering that he claims to have. The only vids I've seen (now removed), are recordings of some tortured four banger in a ratty engine bay struggling for life. He's probably got a taped on hood scoop too!!
And just to let you now the first distributor-less ignition system using coils, was invented and utilized by the Germans in the forties, not the chinks. So thank BMW for that. And like like how you describe you little for bang "well considering my stock head and dual cams can flow well above 9k rpms stock hmmmm". Well considering a fourbanger has to rev that high to make power I'm not impressed.
"blitz tuned ecu q45 maf and 90mm throttle body yes you heard me 90mm TB" Man your really proud of yourself aren't ya. A 90mm throttle body isn't OEM for that engine. Thats all after market, so if you want to go there then theres an 102mm throttle body and intake for the ls1. And your saying that it took gm 15 years to make coils for the ls series. I frankly don't care when gm started using coil packs, even though the four bangers and v6 engines since the early 90's had coil packs.
You are the man! I've seen it all now... I thought the LS1 in a Datsun was insane. I'd like to see some Corvette/Mustang creep up on you when you're ready to roll. I'm having an LS1 swapped into my '93 FD... should make for some interesting time on the interstate. But you're right... counting pennies does take the fun out of it. Nice build.
@proni1 - I wish I could say that it was totally my idea/design, but it wasn't. Couldn't have done it without the kit from renegadehybrids and the guys at 944hybrids!
@proni1 - I'm still working on it! The engine install didn't take long, it's all of the other stuff that went along and finding the funds to get the stuff
I shudder to think what I've spent! North of 15K would be conservative - tires and rims cost at least 3 times what the car cost originally. Then body kit, seats, engine, paint, more paint. Thing is yes, you could do it cheap, but if you do something like this for yourself - don't count the pennies. It will take the fun out of the project, and you'll more than likely not complete it. I have no regrets having spent - other than having to listen to the wife nag about it --- hahaha
Very nice. I have been hanging on to a Buick Grand National engine for 10 yrs now planning on doing something like this. LOL I keep putting it off because I know how much work it is working out every single little thing. Looks great so far!!! Good luck, It will be wicked cool when its done.
It took me a while to get up enough courage to pull the trigger, but I'm glad I did! I have learned alot about Porsches doing this. Unfortunatley, I got distracted with a widebody kit, so I am working on putting that on now. Thanks for stopping by and stay tuned!!
It was relatively easy - feel free to check the cardomain website. Search for 2413504. To answer your questions directly though, 1. The TT and spline was solved by using a clutch disc from a 69 Baracuda
2. No, but they are inexpensive to make/purchase - check out the 944hybrids link on my page
3. I have heard of it being done with a Ford - once again, check out the 944hybrids site for more info, there are several guys there that should be able to answer your question.
Have to cut the heat shield bosses and shave some of the crossmember in order to get the exhaust to fit. As for the hood, I haven't had it on yet - I wouldn't be suprised if I had to notch it for it to clear the throttle body.
Thanks for the compliment!! The conversion would have even been more difficult had I stayed with the original Porsche gauges. The only reason why I'm not done *YET* is because of all of the body work. I still hope to be done by the end of summer. Best wishes!!
How far along are you? What's your screen name on porschehybrids? More importantly, WHERE ARE THE VIDEOS?? :) Currently working on putting in carpet and passenger seat (don't have mount for drivers' side yet.
did you ever get rid of the truck filler neck? and also what kit did you go with? there are two out there and one is the xschop(robert( man does everything by measurement )) or RH ??
What do you mean by truck filler? For the oil? If so, then no - still have it for the time being. As for the kit, I got started before xschop came on the scene so I went with the RH kit - what else are tax refunds good for? :). Sounds like you have some time on the porschehybrids site.
Hey! Why is your dashboard not all cracked and warped?!?!?! :) Is yours a 924 or early 944?? Thanks for stopping by and checking my project out. I understand what you're talking about, but on the other hand, after spending 10 years in Germany, I can't understand how driving some of those super small cars on the autobahn would be considered legal :) I'll smoke the tires a couple times for you!! Best wishes!!
I'm currently in the process of reinstalling the interior. I have sound deadener (Dynamat) all over the place. I am jealous that you have perfect interiors - guess I'll have to dream about it......
A friend of mine wants to have leather on the dashboard, a professionnal says it costs $500...
the dashboards that are in good shape are in the nothern countries (Europe > sweden, nederlands...) so, you can try to find one in Canada ! I've seen an american who builds new ones, but it costs $700....
Yeah - I have seen them. A little rich for my blood right now, but I may take the plunge to make it look descent. Canada.....hmmm. Never thought of that - thanks for the idea!! Knew this internet thing was good for something!!
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment - it's a really intense project!
As for the cost, I don't even want to think about it....probably about as much as a new car, but where would the fun be in that? I'm hoping on completing this year (fingers crossed). Stay tuned for updates!! Best wishes
I hope that it runs great too! A/C is kicking my butt right now. For some reason the ECM A/C clutch control is not giving me a ground when I try to integrate it into the Porsche circuitry - any ideas??
People can say what they want....only a Trogladite will diss a car/engine combination as strong and reliable as the Porsche/LS1 The above car will be formidable with out changing the factory balance and cornering dynamics which is paramount in any re-engineering of the factory spec.
Thanks for the comment! Don't know if you saw the other video of me taking the car for a short spin, but if that short run is any indicator of what is possible, I'm going to really enjoy driving this car!
your an ass, i had the idea of putting a real engine in that car since i was 15, oh well, maybe i'll throw one in a supra... and as for all you haters you should check out all the other lsx swaps, mustangs, skylines, rx7s, 350z, u name it... i dont think its a trend, i believe they just want a strong reliable engine in their car.
Probably also because they don't handle well in the twisties - sure you might be able to drift through the turns, but that doesn't really look good in time trials.
i think u should think before saying anything about road racing i could leave ur ls1 behind with my 2jzgte =] JAPANESE ENGINEERING IN THE HOUSE!!!!!! YEAH BABY!!!!!
Maybe...but I tend to think it's the driver, not necessarily the car. Strange I don't see many Supra road racers. See lots with turbos and twin turbos doing the quarter mile, but not many on the track....why is that?
i think this is stupid i have a 924s and i love it. these cars are engineered to have the engine and rear transmission. not only sticking a massive v8 ls1 on a small Porsche going to mes sup the weight ratios but make the car ridiculously sound stupid . this defeats the whole purpose of the car.
While you are entitled to your opinion, you clearly display your ignorance on this topic. For your informations, the LS1 engine is maybe 50 lbs heavier than the iron Porsche engine. I have relocated the battery to the rear of the car so the balance that the 944 is reknown for is maintained. With the stock transmission and the upgraded supension and brakes, my car is more than a match for any road racer out there - not bad for a 25 year old car!
well its not ignorance its just that I'm not into American engineering, actually i hate it. jejeje but that is very nice. are you going to throw a super charger ?
Not initially - I'd like to finish the car and drive it around for a bit. As shown in my latest video (minus the hanging tailight), this car is definitely going to be a blast to drive. Don't knock American engineering until you try it!!
LOL - After this I am going to take a break. Nothing but blood sweat and tears (money too!) in getting this project going! Thanks for the comment though!

I'm thinking of doing this also after having many expensive repairs to my hot running 944 engine. A couple questions,
1- how did you deal with the torque tube and spline match up?
2- did u fabricate the motor mounts?
3- think it would be easier and cheaper with a 5.0 Ford engine?
Thanks for any help..
butnut11 2 years ago
It was relatively easy - feel free to check the cardomain website. Search for 2413504. To answer your questions directly though, 1. The TT and spline was solved by using a clutch disc from a 69 Baracuda
2. No, but they are inexpensive to make/purchase - check out the 944hybrids link on my page
3. I have heard of it being done with a Ford - once again, check out the 944hybrids site for more info, there are several guys there that should be able to answer your question.

Did you have to do any cutting under the hood to fit the engine in?
ManBrockman 2 years ago
Have to cut the heat shield bosses and shave some of the crossmember in order to get the exhaust to fit. As for the hood, I haven't had it on yet - I wouldn't be suprised if I had to notch it for it to clear the throttle body.

nice conversion,i recently finished putting a 350 into an 83 s10 but what you've done here looks much more difficult, nice work and it sounds great!
optyk07 2 years ago
Thanks for the compliment!! The conversion would have even been more difficult had I stayed with the original Porsche gauges. The only reason why I'm not done *YET* is because of all of the body work. I still hope to be done by the end of summer. Best wishes!!

do you need rails? i have some from an old seat . and im at the point of putting in the engine, havein another oil pan made for backup.
bmcgwier 2 years ago
No - got new Sparco rails and mount. Put the passenger seat in and took the wife out for a spin - the screams of SLOW DOWN were priceless!!!
nsaneon 2 years ago
yea an where do you think he got his car to work with? from me, i traded him my car for a whole kit from him.
bmcgwier 2 years ago
How far along are you? What's your screen name on porschehybrids? More importantly, WHERE ARE THE VIDEOS?? :) Currently working on putting in carpet and passenger seat (don't have mount for drivers' side yet.
nsaneon 2 years ago
did you ever get rid of the truck filler neck? and also what kit did you go with? there are two out there and one is the xschop(robert( man does everything by measurement )) or RH ??
bmcgwier 2 years ago
What do you mean by truck filler? For the oil? If so, then no - still have it for the time being. As for the kit, I got started before xschop came on the scene so I went with the RH kit - what else are tax refunds good for? :). Sounds like you have some time on the porschehybrids site.

I'm a french 944 fan, I'd really like to do that...but in France, driving a car like this would be illegal...
funkyemperor 2 years ago
Best wishes!!
nsaneon 2 years ago
I've owned about 15 924/944 and 3 of them had a perfect dashboard. I still have 3 924, one is in paint job, interior is in perfect shape.
my first 944 was the yellow one in my videos, i had founded a new dashboard in a 924 to change the original one that was cracked by the sun.
funkyemperor 2 years ago
I'm currently in the process of reinstalling the interior. I have sound deadener (Dynamat) all over the place. I am jealous that you have perfect interiors - guess I'll have to dream about it......
nsaneon 2 years ago
A friend of mine wants to have leather on the dashboard, a professionnal says it costs $500...
the dashboards that are in good shape are in the nothern countries (Europe > sweden, nederlands...) so, you can try to find one in Canada ! I've seen an american who builds new ones, but it costs $700....
funkyemperor 2 years ago
Yeah - I have seen them. A little rich for my blood right now, but I may take the plunge to make it look descent. Canada.....hmmm. Never thought of that - thanks for the idea!! Knew this internet thing was good for something!!

damn i love this i really hope to do this type of project one day how much did it cost you to do the swap?
onemiss557 2 years ago
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment - it's a really intense project!
As for the cost, I don't even want to think about it....probably about as much as a new car, but where would the fun be in that? I'm hoping on completing this year (fingers crossed). Stay tuned for updates!! Best wishes

Awesome setup: sounds great, going to run great, looks great, and all around great daily driver if anyone ask me.
turkeyshitting 2 years ago
I hope that it runs great too! A/C is kicking my butt right now. For some reason the ECM A/C clutch control is not giving me a ground when I try to integrate it into the Porsche circuitry - any ideas??
nsaneon 2 years ago
Very cool, wondering about doing this myself. Congratulations with a sweet job done

Hey thanks for the compliment - working on A/C and electrical gremlins right now. Check out porschehybrids[dot]com for support!! Best wishes!!
nsaneon 3 years ago
i would love to see the finished version I'd like to see this done to an older saab 900 ( like a 90 or 91 maybe even an 87 900 )
giddyupLittleC4 2 years ago
This is it for me!! While it's been fun working on this, I'd much rather be driving :)
nsaneon 2 years ago
People can say what they want....only a Trogladite will diss a car/engine combination as strong and reliable as the Porsche/LS1 The above car will be formidable with out changing the factory balance and cornering dynamics which is paramount in any re-engineering of the factory spec.
..........excellent choice!
smasheditorial 3 years ago
Thanks for the comment! Don't know if you saw the other video of me taking the car for a short spin, but if that short run is any indicator of what is possible, I'm going to really enjoy driving this car!
nsaneon 3 years ago
Yeah there seems to be a healty aftermarket for GM parts. It's a shame it has come down to this.
nsaneon 3 years ago
your an ass, i had the idea of putting a real engine in that car since i was 15, oh well, maybe i'll throw one in a supra... and as for all you haters you should check out all the other lsx swaps, mustangs, skylines, rx7s, 350z, u name it... i dont think its a trend, i believe they just want a strong reliable engine in their car.
KingRichard572 3 years ago
Not only reliable - cheaper to maintain too!(hoping GM survives). I like the way the LS1 sounds too!!
nsaneon 3 years ago
well hopefully gm performance parts splits off and stays in business, i dont see any reason why they would have to go too
KingRichard572 3 years ago
well you see there's not many supras out there and well not many are willing to take chances anywhere like my supra and i
chevroletltz 3 years ago
Probably also because they don't handle well in the twisties - sure you might be able to drift through the turns, but that doesn't really look good in time trials.
nsaneon 3 years ago
i think u should think before saying anything about road racing i could leave ur ls1 behind with my 2jzgte =] JAPANESE ENGINEERING IN THE HOUSE!!!!!! YEAH BABY!!!!!
chevroletltz 3 years ago
Maybe...but I tend to think it's the driver, not necessarily the car. Strange I don't see many Supra road racers. See lots with turbos and twin turbos doing the quarter mile, but not many on the track....why is that?
nsaneon 3 years ago
i think this is stupid i have a 924s and i love it. these cars are engineered to have the engine and rear transmission. not only sticking a massive v8 ls1 on a small Porsche going to mes sup the weight ratios but make the car ridiculously sound stupid . this defeats the whole purpose of the car.
basetpk 3 years ago
While you are entitled to your opinion, you clearly display your ignorance on this topic. For your informations, the LS1 engine is maybe 50 lbs heavier than the iron Porsche engine. I have relocated the battery to the rear of the car so the balance that the 944 is reknown for is maintained. With the stock transmission and the upgraded supension and brakes, my car is more than a match for any road racer out there - not bad for a 25 year old car!
nsaneon 3 years ago
well its not ignorance its just that I'm not into American engineering, actually i hate it. jejeje but that is very nice. are you going to throw a super charger ?
basetpk 3 years ago 2
Not initially - I'd like to finish the car and drive it around for a bit. As shown in my latest video (minus the hanging tailight), this car is definitely going to be a blast to drive. Don't knock American engineering until you try it!!
nsaneon 3 years ago
