No, she's South African, but she's said that she finds it easier to work with an american accent otherwise she could have three accents on the go at once (a South African one for home and family, an american one for general life in America and another accent which she might use for a film she's in!) so it's much simpler to have one accent. It's much simpler for her to just use an American accent.

You're right in principle... but Morocco and Egypt are also part of Africa and yet nobody in the US (and maybe Europe) will call someone from there "African"; somehow "African" has come to mean "black African".... in the US, blacks were called "colored people" (1930s?) then "Negro" (50's) then "blacks" or "African-Americans" since then, and now "colored people" and "Negro" are considered derogatory....

some people tried to use" people of color" but it never caught on.
