i agree with d dude dat stated dat a lot of the internet info about garifuna is WRONG. i have read a lot of online article about different part of the garifuna culture n mein these people r far from it . i wonder where de get de info from. i always want to correct dem but i cant get to d the author who wrote d nonsense. its sad mein cause people who dont kno better actually believes d info is accurate n walk away with thr wrong concepts. liru ah niduhenyu???
beautiful...thanks for posting...my family is from hairoun (st.vincent) right now they are in the process of trying to teach the garifuna language to children there (or at least there are talks of it) i hope it happens..we are all apart of one another...our long lost family...
Is it easy for Garifuna people to tell apart Taino words from the Kalinago? If it is then there really is a great hope for re-establishing a really solid Taino language... i'll go ask my Garifuna friend now lol. If someone could get back to me with that information I'd be really greatful
yooo this is what the people need and for those that is ashamed of being garifuna kill yahself !! I love being garifuna. and for those that dont know The first African American Theatre was made by a Garifuna man ! We are in history !
THIS WAS MAD INTERESTING!!!....ESPECIALLY THE WOMEN N MEN PART..I NEVER REALIZED THAT..EVEN THO I DO SAY A LOT OF THE WORDS THAT MEN DO..I WONDER WHY??? CAUSE I WAS RAISED MOSTLY BY MY MOM AND GRANDMA....WELL ANYWAYZ GARIFUNA FOR LIFE!!!!
The garufuna people are very interesting, they are my brothers and sisters because we are descendants of slaves here in North America. They fought hard to keep their freedom and culture. they are some of the greatest spiritual people and great dancers.
yall need to stop runnin to wikipedia thinkin yall learnin somethin. i say 95 percent of the info u read off the internet about the garifuna is false. and if yall just use ya comon sence u would ask ya self, how come everytime you find black people/ moors in the americas they shipwrecked.
@rahdeal this is not based on internet information, is based on books and my common sense and im just talking about the language not the people. if i was talking about the people then u can talk, i know about mansa musa brother coming to the americas with a couple hundred ships in 1300's.
Yah whole view of history is distorted and its coming from a colonial white washed point of view. so i suggest u dig alot deeper into the depths of the blakness and come again with some more accuarate info bra.
im too tired right now to even go in on you, but trust me your sources are inaccurate.
no one that i know, and im from "carib country" (the northern side where most caribs live). There's been a resurgence of Garifuna Awareness through link between Belize Garifunas and the Government here, but no Caribs here speak the language.
@rtruth228 Yes, I am also from St. Vincent, abd the language is no longer spoken or even known. I think. due to British legislature at the time, which prohibited it.
Cont'd from previuos post.... Do you love our people and our culture enough to help the lost ones to find their way? This video does help, except at the very end. It reminds me of a young lady who went off on some people like myself for having limited Garifuna-speaking abilities. Does shunning help the problem? Nope. Sharing and unifying words do.
what do u mean about the ers? are u talking about some garifunas cutting out the r when they speak? i think only hondurans and nicaraguans do it, guatemalans pronounce the r.
No sir...you missed my point. I was restructuring the word "losers" into "lost"...because if there are any Garifunas who are ashamed of it....they are lost. Calling them losers is like shunning, and when you shun it makes our group smaller. Like I said your video is fantastic, and currently one of the only resources on all of YouTube regarding our language...up until you get to the very end of the video. I'd drop the loser thing and keep the Garifuna 4 Life thing.
To tell the truth, I don't know who you know , but at 46 years old, I don't know many Garifunas who are ashamed of such a fascinating culture such as ours, and that's older AND younger people, nothing to do with the ability to speak it. Most "Americanized" Garifunas that I know have difficulty in finding resources. I hear there's even a $65 dictionary (wtf ) Keep up the good work...but let it please be even-handed...not divisive. Ubafu Lun Garifuna! (if i said it right!)
This is a very informative video...up until the end where you called some of our own 'losers". I understand your sentiment but in calling them that, did it help make them more proud of who they are? Did it help to solve the problem of our culture disappearing? I think not. You should use more inclusive statements when it comes to those among our people who, in dropping the "ers" from "losers" and adding the letter "t", might be lost...

All I'm saying is please don't be a part of the problem, when you're already doing such a good job at being part of the solution.
