Wow, the 80's! It didn't matter who album you played.....the entire album JAMMED! Today's artist have 1 or 2 songs you like, and there you go searching for something else to play!!!! BRING BACK, THE FEEL GOOD MUSIC!

@destini0217 I agree, Otis Redding does have some good music. Being a musician I've played a lot of his songs. But, don't be to quick to close your mind to the music of today. Perfectly example: John Legend ft. The Roots: Wake Up Everybody
@kingzbabi The current generations music is not an extension of classic "old school" music. There has been a complete disconnect with this generations quality of music and the means of producing that music (no live bands). This generation has sampled a lot of music from "old school" & that is the only extension. This song is timeless as is most of "old school" music. If you continue to listen to music like this, you'll be criticizing your generations music way more than us "ole skoolers".

UGK's International Player's Anthem used Willie Hutch's song I Choose. And guess what? I have both songs on my iPod. They are both good songs, but some people can't appreciate that both artists have abilities that many people only wish to have.
@kingzbabi This song and most songs that the Gap Band ( from Tulsa, OK) came out with as well of other groups of the 70's and 80's beats the bulls*** you hear today on radio and I am speaking for myself by the way.
@kingzbabi I'm 48 and this is my era of music but I have to agree with you, there are a lot of great musicians, mixers, artists out here today and always will be as long as the love of music goes on...the music today is an extension of yesterdays...Thats why true musicians can collaborate with new ones and make great stuff with Kanye, Pharrelle, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Neyo,....Jay-Z hooked up with Paul McCartney, Will i am with Sly Stone and George Clinton...Just Dig music!!!
@kingzbabi : I somewhat agree. A lot of the funk and R&B in the 70s and 80s was the direct result of music from the likes of James Brown whom pioneered a whole new sound that even today is still being used in some elements. However in that day and age the vast majority of music was quality in just about every genre. Rock, R&B, Country, etc. Nowadays it's the reverse. You only have a handful of quality songs that are 'original' and 'non-sampled' and the rest is pure nonsense.
Cont: then you had the 'New Jack Swing' that started in the late 80's and lasted until the mid 90s. In today's market music is too much of a bottom-line business where true artistry and creativity take a back seat to what ever makes money. It doesn't matter if it's crap, just as long as people buy it is what the record executives say behind closed doors. The artists that aren't afraid to be original and not sound like everyone else don't get the respect they deserve.
@kingzbabi i agree with you half way/ you have to understand that the quality of music has indeed changed. the soul and feeling is pretty much void in todays music. dont get me wrong we do have our voices. but how many people in the mainstream do you know that can play guitar and sing at the same time with soul? by the way i'm 21 and i feel the way they do. music is supposed to make you feel , but now it is all about the outter than what you got going on inside.
Don't get it twisted, the music of today i.e. rap, hip hop is watered-down. First, there is no originality to the beats because they are our beats (70'sand 80's R & B) and then after you get past that you have to contend with the foul language and degration of our people. Where is the pride in the music and its people any more. Wake up!
@thitow1 Nobody is sleep! It takes genius to take a 70s/80s/90s song and make it into another song. It's not as simple as cutting a little here, pasting a little there. It take knowledge in music theory and other aspects of musical history. What is disappointing to me is that people like you have forgotten that when you young your parents didn't know what you were playing on your 8 Tracks all they knew is that they wanted it off. But now here you are doing same thing. The way I see it
(cont.)...is if Quincy Jones can make song with T.I. and B.o.B. (Grand Hustle Kings) and Patti Labelle can sing along side Lloyd (Lay It Down Remix) you can take a step off of your high horse and take time to listen to the watered down music and appreciate what is out there. Water is life, baby.
@kingzbabi Hey there, I hear what you're saying, but you cannot compare the composition of yesterdays musicians and authentic creativity to the music of today. Today's music is by no means an extension of the gen. before; they piggy back the past for hits.
This band and the many artists of yesterday are timeless & created their own music; they are an extension of the gen. before them. Today's artists do not deliver the same classic material that once was; they haven't continued the legacy.
@Cheenjoo i agree. i'm in my early 30's, so i don't know if that makes me part of the old generation or the new or just somewhere in between. either way i can't see how the music from classics like the temptations or newer legends like babyface would inspire "artists" like kesha or fergie to make the stuff that they make.
I'm forced to agree even though I'm barely old enough to recall this era.I was about 8 when this dropped. But being a musician(another lost art),I watched real music disappear. It took it's last breath in the 1990's.
@Cheenjoo don't get today's pop music confused with todays original music that isn't on the radios. time hasn't changed much in that respect.. pop is still pop.
@NOCARRIER416 Obviously we are talking about what is on the radio strictly. Pop is what's popular and obviously what isn't on the radio isn't popular do to lack of air play. I'm very much aware of that.
@KollegeGirl13 i understand that, like Outkast for example (i'm a big fan). But even apart from that, you had to be WAY more talented back in the day to make something of yourself. Today's more about women strutting their bit's around, flashy music videos and rappers 'singing' in their autotuney robot voices.
I do agree, there is talent nowdays...but a very, VERY little amount of it.
@kingzbabi What an intelligent and thoughtful and true thing to say. That's great, I wish everyone could bear this in mind when they are dissing the music of today. We are in a line, we inherit what has gone before us. Well said.
@kingzbabi Well said, There will always be creativity; there will always be talent and there will always be good AND bad music.
In the 80's there was some truly great music - like this - but there was also some really bad music knockin about too, as is the case in EVERY generation and EVERY era.
But all I can remember hearing back then was how it wasn't like, or as good as, the 60's. UTTER NONSENSE

@kingzbabi Very well said "youngin"! :) Glad u appreciate the music. Don't be discouraged by old people.

@craigmusic1707 i think you just invalidated you point when you included Lady Gaga in that group :/

@craigmusic1707 Gaga blows and so does he music, do not even compare that garbage to true classics like the gap band.

D2Kprime 1 year ago
Cont: then you had the 'New Jack Swing' that started in the late 80's and lasted until the mid 90s. In today's market music is too much of a bottom-line business where true artistry and creativity take a back seat to what ever makes money. It doesn't matter if it's crap, just as long as people buy it is what the record executives say behind closed doors. The artists that aren't afraid to be original and not sound like everyone else don't get the respect they deserve.
D2Kprime 1 year ago
@kingzbabi i agree with you half way/ you have to understand that the quality of music has indeed changed. the soul and feeling is pretty much void in todays music. dont get me wrong we do have our voices. but how many people in the mainstream do you know that can play guitar and sing at the same time with soul? by the way i'm 21 and i feel the way they do. music is supposed to make you feel , but now it is all about the outter than what you got going on inside.

@kingzbabi
Don't get it twisted, the music of today i.e. rap, hip hop is watered-down. First, there is no originality to the beats because they are our beats (70'sand 80's R & B) and then after you get past that you have to contend with the foul language and degration of our people. Where is the pride in the music and its people any more. Wake up!

@thitow1 RIGHT ON!!! You hit the nail on the HEAD!!!
robdark71 1 year ago
@thitow1 Nobody is sleep! It takes genius to take a 70s/80s/90s song and make it into another song. It's not as simple as cutting a little here, pasting a little there. It take knowledge in music theory and other aspects of musical history. What is disappointing to me is that people like you have forgotten that when you young your parents didn't know what you were playing on your 8 Tracks all they knew is that they wanted it off. But now here you are doing same thing. The way I see it
kingzbabi 1 year ago

@Cheenjoo i agree. i'm in my early 30's, so i don't know if that makes me part of the old generation or the new or just somewhere in between. either way i can't see how the music from classics like the temptations or newer legends like babyface would inspire "artists" like kesha or fergie to make the stuff that they make.
eklectiktoni 1 year ago 3
@Cheenjoo
I'm forced to agree even though I'm barely old enough to recall this era.I was about 8 when this dropped. But being a musician(another lost art),I watched real music disappear. It took it's last breath in the 1990's.
TheLate70s 11 months ago 2
@Cheenjoo You are so right on with your comments, they have not continued the Legacy at all...!
clever072004 8 months ago
@Cheenjoo don't get today's pop music confused with todays original music that isn't on the radios. time hasn't changed much in that respect.. pop is still pop.
NOCARRIER416 7 months ago
@NOCARRIER416 Obviously we are talking about what is on the radio strictly. Pop is what's popular and obviously what isn't on the radio isn't popular do to lack of air play. I'm very much aware of that.

@kingzbabi The difference is that this music was inspired by even older music and music nowadays rips off songs.
FunkyWhitePimp 1 year ago
@FunkyWhitePimp Everybody doesn't carbon copy from old music. There are artists who have their own style or they are simply just inspired.
KollegeGirl13 1 year ago
@KollegeGirl13 i understand that, like Outkast for example (i'm a big fan). But even apart from that, you had to be WAY more talented back in the day to make something of yourself. Today's more about women strutting their bit's around, flashy music videos and rappers 'singing' in their autotuney robot voices.
I do agree, there is talent nowdays...but a very, VERY little amount of it.
FunkyWhitePimp 1 year ago
@kingzbabi What an intelligent and thoughtful and true thing to say. That's great, I wish everyone could bear this in mind when they are dissing the music of today. We are in a line, we inherit what has gone before us. Well said.
loobycliff 1 year ago
@kingzbabi Well said, There will always be creativity; there will always be talent and there will always be good AND bad music.
In the 80's there was some truly great music - like this - but there was also some really bad music knockin about too, as is the case in EVERY generation and EVERY era.
But all I can remember hearing back then was how it wasn't like, or as good as, the 60's. UTTER NONSENSE
