This is why I don't like theater anymore. They sound like they're pushing too much. The public has been indoctrinated to think schmaltz and Ham is the real theater, so sad. When I was younger live theater was wonderful. Times change. Now people on stage scream instead of project. I can remember the difference quite well.
I LOVE this song but I don't think this girl sings it particularly well... she smiles when she does the sad bits...? When I studied this song, and really looked at the lyrics I cried at ceratin bits, and she smiles during those bits? Hmm maybe its just personal preference, but I feel she just 'sang' the song and didn't feel it.
I think that was a character choice, the smiling... To portray the woman as someone who puts on a smiling 'brave face' when she feels like breaking down the most. A lot of people are like that. Also, you can see it in the way her often chin clenches up at the smiles -- that, to me, reads as 'holding back tears, smiling to try and fight it.'
I find it so hilarious how everyone gives acting and singing tips to all these UM kids when they went to literally one of the best schools for Musical Theatre in the nation. No, that doesn't guarantee perfection, but come on... these videos are clearly from studio recitals and student run benefits and they are still amazing. Half these kids are already on Broadway. And no, I didn't go to UM.

Not too bad. Keep in mind what you're singing about. Do you know what the piece is about? Make sure not to belt just because the note is "high." The last note was a bit abrasive, but you have a lovely voice, so keep working on it!
i disagree, this song would be terrible if the singer wasnt sensitive to the text, imagine if the word "turning" wasn't stressed, i think its obvious if you listen that she was consistantly making choices as far as text goes
What I was asking was whether she knew the story behind the song or not. It's not a matter of being sensitive to the text, but rather knowing what the text is about. I get the impression she has a lover in mind while singing it, when in fact, the song is sung to a mother. That's all I meant.
Wow that was beautiful! Great voice! Just one note of advice don't open so wide on high notes, I know they're difficult notes but there's ways you can hit them without opening so wide and they'll probablly sounds better too, mine have. Just wanted to help, great job!

She must have been cute in her High School play.
She's still there.....God I hate amateurs.
What key you say? Key of Q-Flat

Um, you do realize she's currently Glinda in WICKED.
Couldn't possibly imagine what you're up to these days.
