Vader vs Shawn could have been gold had they used one simple template--Vader vs Sting. It was the exact same set up that Shawn needed. In fact, it might have even worked better for Shawn since few people saw him as manly as Sting, and had he been given the same type of booking as Sting had against Vader, more people would have gone "wow Shawn's manning up against this guy!"
@CSAlmanac Definitely. That's what made Vader the perfect monster heel template in the early half of the 90's. He'd actually get clean wins over Sting, so you'd never know if Sting would get killed in the rematches.

Anyone remember the 1996 Royal Rumble when Vader threw HBK out the Royal Rumble match betcha McMahon was livid that nearly killed "The Boyhood Dream Storyline" next thing on RAW Vader goes bonkers and attacks Monsoon. I do recall the incident at SS96 when HBK went for the elbow and changed it yelling at Vader. I have nothing against Michaels but yeah he was a handful what I heard and seen it on TV he pound hands to some fans when as a babyface like late "95" early "96"
I hate to play devil's advocate here, because Shawn Michaels was a bit of a self-centered ass in his heyday. But, Vader was overly stiff. He was tolerated in WCW because they were behind WWE. Once Vader went to WWE, though, his stiff hitting and slamming was like shit hitting the fan. Like or hate him, Shawn Michaels took plenty of risks on his own that he didn't need that crap. For the record, Vader had already been responsible for ending Nikita Koloff's career. Vader was kinda asking for it.

All true. He completely sucked up and talked to Vince about how the day of the monster was over and used 1,000's of drugs. He buried guys and bedded the divas and made the overall atmosphere behind the curtain uncomfortable.But that doesn't mean he wasn't an obvious in-ring talent. And when they started letting the Rockers talk, Shawn stepped into the limelight. Like I said before, to think that only Vince saw this is crazy. JR, Corny, Patterson, and Hayes all saw it.

Anyone remember the 1996 Royal Rumble when Vader threw HBK out the Royal Rumble match betcha McMahon was livid that nearly killed "The Boyhood Dream Storyline" next thing on RAW Vader goes bonkers and attacks Monsoon. I do recall the incident at SS96 when HBK went for the elbow and changed it yelling at Vader. I hate to play devil's advocate here, because Shawn Michaels was a bit of a self-centered ass in his heyday. But, Vader was overly stiff. He was tolerated in WCW because they were behind WWE. Once Vader went to WWE, though, his stiff hitting and slamming was like shit hitting the fan. Like or hate him, Shawn Michaels took plenty of risks on his own that he didn't need that crap. For the record, Vader had already been responsible for ending Nikita Koloff's career. Vader was kinda asking for it.

@Level7j Vader didn't ask for anything, the only reason Vader worked stiff was because that was the only way he knew how to work and what do you expect when your brought up in the business around guys like Bruiser Brody and Stan Hanson. And if working stiff is such a no-go in the WWE then why didn't management explain that to him since to my knowledge Michaels was the only one who complained about it.

Feel bad for Vader though, the guy deserved to go over a few times, one of the best big guys I had ever seen, seemed like a legit good guy from this too.

Shawn pretty much refused to let Vader look good, and would have done the same to Stone Cold if we weren't so adamant about our love for him. It's my understanding that Shawn was playing politics from the beginning of Vader's run saying that Vader didn't wash his tights (which may have been true). Vince eventually had Shamrock go out there and give stiff leg kicks to Vader until Vader couldn't walk anymore only to be a fucking dick, I'm guessing that Shawn had some involvement in that as well.
