  • i thought englishman are white. This adaption of wuthering heights is politically correct.

  • effie!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Loved the book. Hate the film.

  • and also he could have been mixed ethnically . Romany English Gypsy AND Black . England has been ethnically mixed for a long time . Get over it.

  • @greenphoenix Heathcliffe was NOT an 'Irish traveller' . Irish travellers are NOT Gypsies. The only Gypsies in England at that time were English Romany Gypsies who would be on the packhorse routes, between Lancs and Yorks , Colne to Haworth/Keighley for example. He was a 'Gypsy' from Lancs.

  • niggers cant into english

  • The systematic destruction of our native European ethnic identities to aid the destruction of the homogeneity of ethnic Europeans.

This is disgusting. Not only does it ruin the whole tone of the film by being illogical (why not give them lightsabers while you're at it?) it encourages miscegenation (because it wouldn't happen without indoctrination) and bastardises my race and culture. I'm genuinely hurt as a person. This is a cog in the genocide machine. Pure and simple.

  • w w w . bbc . co . uk/news/uk-england-leeds-17175985

And to top it off, he's a racist who beat up his woman. And here he plays an African with a White girl.

You could not make it up. The Western World is a stage, a giant satire, a parody, something some Jester wrote up as a joke and some conniving creator decided to make it real.

  • They ALWAYS put black men and white girls? Why? Why no other races? Why mess around with a story which has specific characters? This is done on purpose to push a specific viewpoint.

And look at this hypocritical fucks celebrating it. I hate white people, you are the most deluded fucks on the planet, no other races so willingly destroys themselves so easily. I just hope the East Asians can pick up where Europeans left off, for the good of our species. We aren't be around for long.

  • This is so fucking typical of our modern media who ejacualte everyime someone say ''first black'' whatever. Oh, race is a social construct, it doesn't mean anything... BUT HE'S BLACK, YAY! IT'S SOO COOL NAO!

Is that what it comes to now? Do White Men no longer exist? Are we no longer exciting enough? Oh that's right, white people can't mate... nope... it has to inter racial, then it's real and special, right?

I expect to be called a racist for this despite the double standards.

  • Was I the only one watching this and waiting for Effy Stone- I mean Kaya Scodelario to pull out a bottle of Vodka and some MDMA and drug and party with everyone? No? Yes?

  • @dolldream thinking the same about effy.

  • Heathcliff was an Irish traveller

  • WHERE THE FUCK IS ED WESTWICK?

  • Bought the book today (: I can't wait till I can watch the movie. this must be the most beautiful trailer ever made. I hope the movie is just as beautiful.

    Proud of you Effy ;)

  • @AamandaaaF ypu knowher name is not effy, right? it's just a character..

  • @DollDream WHAT??!! Oh shit. I've been watching Skins since 2007 without realizing Effy's not a real person, just a fictional character?! sorry my bad..

  • This trailer pretty much sums up the whole film. Not enough dialogue, lots of silent brooding stares, no soundtrack, just the noise of the wind the whole time and lots of pointless shots of wildlife. You may as well not bother watching the film at all. I wish I hadn't :P

  • Effy

  • in book he's a gypsy. So he's white not black.

  • is this a porn parody?

  • His race is never specified, but he is an 'outsider'. He doesn't look like any of the Earnshaws or Lintons, so I think this is a perfectly good casting. I'd love to see it.

  • @ahlambtz

I'm seriosuly tired of this shit. He was a European, he was NOT an Africa. It's very simple. When you describe a character in Sub Saharan Africa, pre colonialism, they are an Africa. They aren't a European or a White Mna, they are an Africa. When we talk about characters in Europe, pre 20th Century, unless the race is described as anything other than white, they are WHITE European.

He was a European, end of fucking story.

  • Does anyone know when the movie will be released?

  • Do you know what this movie seems to be like? If they were forced to make another Wuthering Heights, because it's really about the time, and they weren't even given any money to do it. So they were just like: " OK. FIne! Get that popular girl, and find some Heathcliff... oh is he black? Well, that's all right, if he's handsome. Oh yeah, dress them up, go to countryside, and ask someone to write a fast screenbook!"

    This Is Insane!

  • I'm not racist but, why Heathcliff have to be black? HE IS NOT BLACK IN THE BOOK!

  • @sheherlove He is black in the book. Read it again. Inform yourself! I thought it was great to have placed the black Heathcliff in this film. Because he was black in the book. And put he white in the films. This is racism! And this is ridiculous!

  • @nothinglovelyx I don't have anything against this actor since the main point is that Heathcliff is different from the others, but he wasn't black in the book, his skin was darker like a gipsy but still white.

  • when's this coming out?

  • Seems more like a horror movie. -_-. I don't think they could make a better wuthering heights movie compared to the 2009 edition with Tom Hardy. Can't get much better than that, in my opinion!

  • You broke my heart, you killed me...- HAPPENED BUT NEVER HAPPENED, HAPPENED BUT NEVER HAPPENED, HAPPENED BUT NEVER HAPPENED, HAPPENED BUT NEVER HAPPENED.

  • Tom Hardy played the best Heathcliff in my opinion. An exceptional performance and Charlotte Riley was awesome as Cathy.

  • Ralph Fiennes was a great Heathcliff buut his va va voom Cathy let him down. This version looks raw and realistic but the lack of dialogue in the trailer makes me suspect that the acting is bad. I will give it a chance when it is released on DVD anyway.

  • its a tragic love story but this trailer makes it look scary

  • why does the trailer look and sound so bad haha

  • Ok, just watched this film and need to ask a question....there is a scene where Heathcliff kills a sheep and it's so realistic and brutal that i can't understand how it was staged. Was that sheep really killed for that scene? It's image is really disturbing me. I'm not some crazy animal activist, im just sensitive to this kinda stuff.

  • @heartofsnow23 No worries, the British Board of Film Classification addressed the animal cruelty scenes in this film and said: "Assurances have been provided by the production company explaining in detail how these scenes were filmed, including detail of special effects employed, so as not to harm any of the animals involved." According to them, that scene and the others involving animal cruelty were not real.

  • @LaNoturna Aww I'm so relieved, thank you so much for clearing that for me. The film was beautiful and so realistic but that scene was just bothering me. I feel better now. ;-)

  • From what I remember Heathcliff wasn't black, he was just supposed to look like a gypsy!

  • Okay not being racist at all purely commenting on the casting but the guy who's gonna play heathcliff doesn't look like he's going to be an aggressive and emotional heathcliff, plus he doesn't look like a gypsy! Also i really liked Kaya in skins but she too doesn't look like she's gonna be emotional cause she only has one face expression! The 2009 adaption will always be the best one to date in my opinion! love you tom hardy!

  • I'm really happy to see that Heathcliff is played by a black man. I think that's a very interesting casting choice and it's good to see black actors in early period pieces in roles that are not limited to slave characters.

  • me encantaría ver esta película algún link para descargarla o verla on line?

  • Kaya♥

  • no bloody idea what this movie is about but kaya is in it so obviously it's something i need to watch.

  • why is heathcliff black? no offense..but..uhm.. ahh nevermind

  • @liann3ocampo In the book he's described as a gypsy and dark-faced. So I guess they interpreted that as black. Who knows.. :p

  • @spectacularrx52 Oh... ok,thanks. I will read the book soon so I will understand it better.

  • omg Kaya x

  • I think the difference between the Wuthering Height starring Tom Hardy and this 2011 version is that the one before seems more of an entertaining, while this tries to post more of an artistic and intense emotional view. There are large difference between the two movies, such as the one before seems "loud and extrovert" while the 2011 one was more "filled with angst and being introverted"... :3

  • @KleineCrow I could not agree more, I fell in love with the one starring Tom Hardy, theres something about this that just...idk.. doesnt seem as right

  • @FutureDoesntNeedU I am more of an introverted so I prefer the 2011 one... it's more realistic somehow

  • As much as I love Kaya Scodelario, she seems too weak to be Catherine. I do absolutely love the choice for Heathcliff. Although, no one can do it better than Tom Hardy.

  • *Spoiler* I loved the first half. When they were still kids. The second just felt odd. Especially the necrophilia.

  • @Usernamestanly Necrophilia? o.O Theres non in the book, he just jumps in the grave and holds the body. Oh T_T

  • this boy Solomon Glave...eyes...MMm!

  • @NenadlPopovic i personally think the version with Tom Hardy was beautiful. It made me a fan him.

  • I'm only here for kaya tbh...

  • the guy is a gypsy picked up by a white man...are gypsies white???? or coloured or whatever...just enjoy the movie..

  • i'm just here for kaya..

  • so fucking glad it's not the standard jane eyre style of making a period piece. ugh thank god.

  • weird trailer

  • @jennyB07 true..

  • 1939 version is the best version :)...this 1 sucks :P

  • Very Creepy.....

  • wow i still have no clue wtf that movie is about - probably because it isn't about anything!

  • @Hakapiks42

Try reading the summary beneath the video. Though I am rather surprised that you don't already know the storyline, the book is a classic and well known throughout the world.

  • @Hakapiks42 Yep, you're right. They made a whole movie about absolutely nothing. <--- Sarcasm.

  • jesus another movie where nothing happens and nobody says much...its not poetry, its trash

  • Oh my god, seriously. Why is the colour of this man's skin such an issue? The books description of Heathcliff wasn't specific; it didn't describe him as white or black. It described him as English. This actor is English. Get over it.

  • @thinfulwishing It suggests several times throughout the book that his skin was of a darker color than the other characters, contributing to his alienation. I'm not sure about the term "moor" but that might be another clue! But again, you're completely right it doesn't matter and clearly the author didn't think it mattered much either!

  • @thinfulwishing In the book he was not English he was gypsy

  • @thinfulwishing the book says he was english. an ordinary english. at that time, an ordinary english was not a black man. tho, he was a gypsy. but not black man.

  • Englishmen are white. The English are an ethnic group, you don't join an ethnic group by acquiring a citizenship, or being born in a certain country. Being English back then meant you were white. Being African back then meant you were black. It's not skin color which is the problem here. It's ethnic group.

  • @bullseye140 exactly

  • @thinfulwishing

He is not English you brainwashed cunt.

  • @stormtroll7 just fuck off you dick!

  • @MissMellark23

He is not English and never will be, get over it.

  • @stormtroll7 would you care to explain why? because all i think right now is that youre a racist and to be fair that guy is mixed race so one of his parents is probably white british.

  • @MissMellark23

MLK should be played by a white man. So should Malcom X, and Nelson Mandela. Race is a social construct, right? So it shouldn't matter, right?

Nah, shit doesn't work like that. Ethnically, he is not ENglish. It's pretty simple. Look at people like you celebrating it because he's black. This is politially motivated, as usual.

  • @stormtroll7

    1.Don't call me a cunt.

    2. He was born in Eng,and. English, that makes him, with ethnic backgrounds. If I had been born in Australia, I would be Australian with British backgrounds. 3. I think you'll find that you're the one who's been brainwashed. I mean, some one must have taught you to be so racially prejudiced.

  • Calling this black kid English is like saying that a Negro in China is Chinese. This is just more race mixing propaganda from "Jew know who". Disgusting.

  • My god racism to the fullest white genocide you bitches are crazy you're just mad he's black you hate black people just say it nothing but kkk members you all need help! AND FYI I'M BLACK YOU PRICKS! AND I HAVE A WHITE FRIEND!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE BLIND AND STUPID RACIST PIGS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • these comments are confusing...white genocide? I've never heard that term used before in serious conversation..

When I read Wuthering Heights I did not picture a black kid as Heath, but I think I like the interpretation here. It makes the impossibillity of his and Cathy's love more obvious to the modern movie goer (especially if they had no understanding of the time period and/or had not read the book)

I can't wait to watch this!

  • Good job blackboy kill off my kind!

  • I see no English boy, but I see an African.

  • Just another racemixing propaganda aimed at genocide of my people... people of european descent!!!

    Stop WHITE GENOCIDE NOW!!!

  • An actor who starred in the latest film adaptation of Wuthering Heights has admitted racially abusing his former girlfriend.

  • What is the book about??? there is no way i could tell by the trailer

  • That is a horrible looking movie! And just another attempt at Genocide aimed at white people of European decent. Only my people are told to "diversify" ourselves out of existence and only white children will suffer with no future because of it.

  • Terrible casting. They clearly didn't bother reading the book.

  • @SylvianLight THERE"S A BOOK?????????? next you will be telling me they made harry potter from a book series!!!!!!!

  • @bigfella11 hahahaha Rofl.. and what about "the lord of the ring" ??

  • this was so good...unrequited love....both the actors that played Heathcliff(young and old) were very good looking too.

  • wow terrible trailer....

  • would anyone get offended if the film about tribal wars and slavery amongst africans featured a little white girl in a standout role as somehow she was taken in by one of the tribes and when the tribe was conquered by another tribe, she became a slave in africa as well along with her foster family. that would be inserting white role(s) into a traditionally all black cast. i don't mind radical changes as long as its done for art, NOT to be forced into PC or equal opportunity.

  • i miss effy

  • Bad casting in my opinion :/. That man doesn't look mean enough to be Heathcliff

  • Apologies to anybody that like this book, but this is (in my opinion) one of the worst stories ever written with some of the worst characters ever conceived. Had to say it

  • @CKnoxW Why do you say that?

I can think of FAR worse. Twilight, for instance. Now THAT is a terrible book.

  • I must say that no movie can interpret the book. Heathcliff as mentioned in the book isn't a ordinary man, his love for Cathy is more like a soul relation which can not be shown in any movie. To witness his love and passion one must read the book also.

  • whos here because of Mumford and sons ?

  • @ansi03x Mee :D

  • Kaya Scodelario? wohoo! :)

  • @DeniseInChains yes, I love it.

  • 0:46 <3

  • = = the trailer looks more like one a horror movie than for a classic romance tale

  • Personally, I think that nothing can beat the 1992 version with Ralph Fiennes

  • @NenadlPopovic Agreed. Also, I'm not so sure about having Kaya as Catherine. Feels like everyone will only recognize her as Effie from Skins -.-

  • @NenadlPopovic whaaaat?? worst movie ever ever ever!

  • @NenadlPopovic Nothing can beat William Wyler's original version.

That lousy remake with Juliette Binoche doesn't count u.u"

  • @NenadlPopovic Abslolutely disagree: never were two actors so miscast.

  • @NenadlPopovic That was a shit version -_-

  • I love the book and i love the idea of new interpretation.

  • I loved this book, but man I didn't like this trailer.

  • This looks interesting :)

  • Hey! Effie <3

  • @ucandoitifyouwantit its spelt effy.

  • In the novel Heathcliffe is a gypsy - a social minority - and that is why he is such a controversial character. These comments (as embarrassing as they are) prove that the director has made the right choice casting Heathcliffe as a black man. She has succeeded in making him a (racially) controversial character. Bronte would have been proud.

  • @hannahblovely I'm sorry but I think the novel's characters are not controversial at all, at least in the sense you've pointed out. They are what they are, and by the time this story developes, it happened what it happened, and people social lifes were what they were. This could be a good film, but it won't be faithfull at all to the novel E. Bronte writed, it will be, in reallity, Andrea Arnold's interpretation of Wuthering Heights. I guess she has the right to.

  • @darthvaderhobbit I'm sorry to be so pedantic, but it's 'It's me, Cathy, I've come home! I'm so cold!'

  • i'm wathcing this for Kaya .

  • Shame this film isn't showing in the states... Also, I cannot believe it an actual argument the actor's RACE! Cinema and the stage has been, I don't know if you've noticed, void of people of color for the the past century... Open your f**king mind, and let people of color finally show their excellence in the art just like any other white male.

  • @5447whatsmynumber I do not think the comments you talk of are racially motivated. It's just that the character(Heathcliff) does not feel right in this movie. Most of us have read the book ,so we have in our minds eye an idea of what H-cliff looks like ,and because of the era of when the book was both written and set ,the idea of H-cliff not being are tall ,dark haired gypsy esqu type ,just feels wrong

  • aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh mint i love wuthering heights cant wait to see this new one get in!!!!

  • so...did this come out into theatres? i'm just curious...i know jane eyre didn't come to theatres where i live and the ticked me off...i had to it...someone pls tell me ty

  • i can't understand the book

  • I like the moor myself.

  • I personally like that they chose a black man to play Heathcliff; it makes their relationship, in that day and age, that much more scandalous. In that day and age, and considering where this takes place, it's probably not very likely...but who knows? I'm not a big fan of this story, but I may go to see this one, just because it is so different. If you don't like this one, just deny it's existence in your own mind & watch your favorite version. Problem solved! :)

  • this was kind of anti-climatic for me. Partially coz I was going apeshit while it was loading only then to find out the trailer has wind and one line....... :/

  • "you broke my heart. you killed me'' daamn so simple but so... deep

  • Comment removed

  • i expected someone more attractive to play heathcliff.

  • @MiniInloesteam You are a disgusting HUMAN BEING!!!!! We are all humans. What right have you to say someone is worth less than someone else?! Go back into whatever cave you just emerged from and stay there with your ugly hateful views. People like youm who do not see all other humans as equal with yourself, cast a much larger blemish on the "English heritage".

  • @MiniInloesteam Actually, I'm WHITE, but more importantly, I'm a human being who is disgusted by people who think that they are better or more important than anyone else simply because of what race they happened to be born. Good job on being born white, I'm so sure you had a lot to do with that. It's a shame you couldn't have been born with empathy or love for your fellow human race. I feel sorry for you.

  • @blackeyedsue21 Calm down! It's very simple, the character of Heathcliff was not meant to be of the negro persuasion, or of African descent, however you want to term it. It's just a fact. Nothing against black people! Stop taking such personal offense. Paranoia is a bad thing.

  • @shamalama68 Actually, I agree with you. Heathcliff is more likely of gypsy descent. If he was of African descent, Bronte probably would've stated so. It would've been much more controversal at the time. The idea of Cathy "lowering" herself to be with him just wouldn't have happened at that time.

However, many people think that he's supposed to be of African descent and that's fine. People can interpret it how ever they want. That part of the joy of reading novels--using your imagination.

  • @shamalama68 I understand this is a classic work and that many people have strong view and images of these characters and who should play them. However--that is no excuse to be a racist pig. There is no excuse for some of his/her comments and if you'll look back you'll see what I mean.

  • i am going to see this because of mumford and sons...

  • The cinematography looks amazing.

  • This looks really good. I knew as soon as I saw it though that people were going to jump on the race thing. Seriously, people. Read the book. He is described as having dark skin and as being from a foreign family. This has usually meant, to me at least, as being black or perhaps a Gypsy. But more importantly... WHO CARES.

  • Who cares if he's black? I hate that you're all making a big deal over the fact that someone's this race and this race. Someone said that this was an interpretation. Wasn't Heathcliff in the story portrayed as a sort of social anomaly? Wasn't he very different from the society of the setting in Wuthering Heights? Maybe he's black in the movie because that sets him apart from the generally white cast. Don't the movie's creators have a right to have INTERPRETIVE ideas?

  • @SocialAndPolitical In the book he's dark skinned, so that could be interpreted as black anyway...

  • @SocialAndPolitical

    Well lets face it,everybody cares.

  • @Dami603 DAMMIT.

  • Tom Hardy was simply the perfect Heathcliff, this one will get a tough job competing with that. And I dont get how they could make Heathcliff black, its not only different from the book, its also historically incorrect. In the time where the story is set, most English people had never even seen a black person. Besides, in the book it says he looks a bit like a gypsy.

  • @witwanggibon It says he has dark skin and speaks gibberish. It can easily be interpreted that he is black - he's meant to be mysterious, so for most English people of the time it would fit perfectly.

  • >forcing negroes into period pieces to be PC

yes, the book says he's dark - as in dark hair.

  • @MrDoriefs There is no one interpretation. This director obviously saw him as black. After all it is called an 'adaptation' not an 'imitation'.

  • @tigerlilyifyify

May as well throw in some americanisms, contemporary moral values and modern technology in then.

no point in being half hearted about bringing it up to date and more relatble to us progressives.

a reflection of modernity and not the outdated time it was written in.

  • @MrDoriefs I don't want to get into an argument. I just thought I'd let you know that studying Wuthering Heights at university has taught me that there are lots of different interpretations. Your seeing Heathcliff as a dark-haired rather than dark-skinned man isn't wrong; nor is this director's seeing him as a black man. Personally I see him more gypsy / tanned. Emily Bronte left it ambiguous for a reason. That's why her readers didn't like it - Victorians liked everything spelt out for them.

  • @tigerlilyifyify "Personally I see him more gypsy / tanned. Emily Bronte left it ambiguous for a reason."

They did say in the novel that he was of Gypsy background.

  • @tigerlilyifyify I agree there is nothing wrong with an African American Heathcliff, the only way I see it as differing from the story is that is was widely insinuated throughout the book that Heathcliff was the illegitimate child of Cathy's father, which is why he was brought to live there, despite his mother's race he would also have some of his father's looks. Honestly though I don't think it matters what race they are it was the passion of Heathcliff and Cathy that makes the story what it is

  • The next remake will cast Catherine as Chinese. I mean, why not diversify if that's the trend?

  • @plumeria66 o.0 I'm trying to figure out whether you're being silly or you just don't have a clue about the book...

  • @MrsLovett112

Haha, I doubt Emilly Bronte had a black person in mind for Heathcliff. But dream on in your Equal Opportunity remake! So you've proven you are not a racist. Let me find an award to give you so you can like yourself more.

  • @plumeria66 Why do you doubt it? He's described as dark skinned and being a gypsy, there wouldn't have been a particular reason for him not to be black. It's just that for some strange reason he's never been portrayed as such. It's not some sort of 'Equal Opportunities' remake, it's just that that is the way it turned out

  • @MrsLovett112 I'm sorry, I just had to comment to say I love your username!

Mrs Lovett is my favourite Sweeney character, and Sweeney is my favourite musical <3

  • @plumeria66 I wish I could like your comment a thousand times. I agree 100%

  • @xxxfantasyhorse

    Thanks.

  • sorry guy.

  • its Withering not Wuthering

  • @quellhas no its wuthering
