All these have been refilmed in higher quality though on guitarplayackdotcom

  • This is the most informative and easy to understand explanation of modes for guitarists that I have come across...I have never really "gotten" a practical understanding of modes till now...wow!!! THANKS!!!!!hctubj

  • @rajemmott Thanks so much! :-)

  • WHERE IS PART 3

  • @foreverjimmy Sadly it got deleted by mistake and I don't have the original anymore... :-/

Check my guitarplayback for similar lessons though.

  • For Dmin7 i could play D dorian, D phrygian and D aeolian, or are you saying D dorian, E phrygian, A aeolian?

  • @drewhet You could play D Dorian, D Phrygian or D Aeolian. :-)

  • @Wallimann ah i see now. i played those 3 scales on top of each other and i see how they all have the chord tones DFAC.

  • David - This is a great series. Can you please re-post 3, 5, and 6 in the series? They're not available anymore.

  • Thanks a lot man!

Unfortunately I accindentally deleted those and don't have them anymore.. :-(

  • great stuff. thanks. can you pls put the third part back

  • why do you have music going in the background during the video?, it is very distracting.

  • Yeah, that's a good point...

  • brilliant stuff david, the most informed modes series on YT!

    Sted (GMC)

  • so, let's say I'm executing a Gmaj scale decending and augment the first active. what would be the correct term for that scale? Gmaj augmented scale? I guess what I am trying to get straight is the terminology.

    Thanks!

  • What do you mean by the first active?

  • No, you wouldn't use augmented there.

Only use those terms (augmented and diminished) when talking about simple intervals (distance between two notes)...

  • Hey, awesome lesson bro but I had a question.

How can you diminish a scale or augment it? is there an order you have to follow or can you diminish/augment any degree in the scale in order for it to be considered diminished/augmented?

  • Great question man!

You really augment or diminish a scale.

What you can do though is diminish or augment an interval by substracting or adding a half step to it.

For example, augmenting a 4th would make it an augmented 4th.

    Hope that helps!
