@capitolbass They're not even close to the same. 6X the resolution isn't just marketing hype, Blu-ray is literally 6X the resolution of DVD. Here's the big difference - with DVD, the larger the screen you watch it on the more pixelated it becomes due to the lack of detail in the original low resolution image. @Zaranyzerak What is your take on the quality of Blu ray vs the now dead HD DVD. I just recently bought the ultimate Matrix collection, and Harry Potter years 1-5 on HD DVD and some others to compare them to my blu ray versions. The HD DVD versions have a slightly cleaner and smoother picture. Its a shame HD DVD died. On the bright side, the HD DVD matrix collection only cost me $5, the same collection on blu ray cost me $60. Same with the other HD DVD collections I bought.

@WaXTheWoodFloor Sure you can. And come on, let's be nice to DVD. Being mean to DVD is like saying bad things about your grandparents. It had a good run, still has a bit of fight left, and kicks ass on bingo nights.
That said, as the Blu-ray collection has been growing it started annoying me so rest assured, I now have them in their own section.
@Zaranyzerak Actually, the other thing that pisses me off about blu-ray, besides the painful process of trying to get rid of all my old DVDs without giving them away for free, is that ever since I got my BD-ROM drive...there's a huge library of DVDs of various niche titles out there, but I can't even consider buying them in the fear that suddenly they'll announce it on blu-ray - and that's another title I'll have to try to get rid of.
@Kusanagi356 I love LOTR, which is why I won't bother with the current Blu-ray editions. First, they're the theatrical cuts only. I prefer the Extended Cuts by a loooong stretch. Second, the first two have TERRIBLE transfers in the current edition. I'll wait for the Extend4ed versions, and hopefully they'll do a nice job of the transfers this time.
The blu-rays are kept together in the same row and the DVDs continue the leftover space, being that there's only 20 blu-rays that have been bought since 12/7/2008, it's not worth an extra shelf yet.
Please don't mix your blu-ray with DVD, it makes me so uncomfortable, for me it all has to be neat, blu ray in the middle of DVD ire's me greatly, nice collection though.
I made a deal with myself, if i have it on dvd, i wont replace it on bluray. Any new movie that comes out, i get on bluray. So far i have stuck to this resolution. Apart from Goodfellas because my dvd of this movie was a crappy edition with half the movie on side a and the other on side b, before the days of dual layer dvd's.
Im 14 years old and have a job delivering advertisement.
It actually pays pretty good like around €5 per ...round (Yup Euros , I live in Holland) and that money is just for extra...money for dvds...well MOSTLEY dvds.
Especially now with chirstmas coming up it pays more , because it gets heavier and heavier (yup we are that fucking greedy XD)
Not yet. I had the original DVD release of that a while ago, but haven't upgraded the the Blu-ray version yet. I see it recently dropped in price, so I'm hoping to pick it up soon.
@Zacharypwns You realize if you give no money to Hollywood, Holllywood will stop making movies right? You understand that? You're stealing. Unless it's public domain then, but I still prefer to buy them.
it's not about how many you own, it's about what the future will be like when dvd's will diminish (no longer to usable). not all who watch will really care what movies you have. so what?
Well, in 300 years I'll worry about that. Oh wait, I'll be dead. I think it's safe to say the kinds of videos I do are not of interest to you. so why bother watching them? Or commenting on them with a thinly veiled insult?
Hehe. I know what you mean about content. I had to get two Nosferatu DVD's because, well---one had a Commentary by some film historians, and the other had the history of the movie. Both are so damn good!
I'm guessing that would be the Kino and Image versions? :) they also both did different restorations. Both look great, but different. Yeah, I really need to get off my arse and get both of those too. For the exact same reasons! :D
I dunno why.....but commentaries are just awesome, *friends think I'm weird for likeing them, lulz* same with the history. When I got my Humphrey Bogart collection in 07 and saw they had a special on The Maltese Falcon, I was all.... insane coo-coo happy. Then theirs the sweet commentary on M!
I don't think you should replace all your dvds with blu-ray, think about the money. Also, dvds are already really good enough, I mean they're on disc format, you'll be able to play them forever. Blu-ray players play dvds. Just a suggestion.
I'll replace the ones that come out with Blu-ray versions, but I'm sure it will be a very long time before everything I have (especially the old TV shows and cartoons) see the light of day on Blu, if ever. DVD is the THIRD format I've collected since I started with VHS and Laserdisc back in the day. So one more added into the mix doesn't make a big difference to me. I don't mind re-purchasing if it's a significant upgrade in quality, which Blu-ray is.
I have a question for you zaranyzerak, if a VHS was eating pop tarts (hypothetically) would it be legal for a blu ray disc to smash a LCD testicle over its head? please get back to me very soon as I have a nasty venerial disease that I probably wont survive, goodnyt god bless and may god have mercy on your ovaries
And here we have someone else who didn't even watch the video, or notice that I actually have ANOTHER video that I put out around the same time addressing the alleged "Sony Fanboy" nonsense. Do try to pay attention next time.
It will co-exist for a while, that's pretty much a given. Especially since much material on DVD only exist as standard def masters anyway (many old TV shows, for example), so the only point to putting it on Blu-ray would be to fit more episodes per disc, an bump the bitrate up a bit for a slight boost in quality. But here's the thing - adoption rate for Blu-ray has been far faster than it was for DVD. The price of hardware and software has also dropped MUCH faster than DVD did.
Most people who think that upscaling is "good enough" for their HDTV's have a tendency to change their tune when they actually play a Blu-ray disc on it for the first time. There's no comparison in quality. Just like when people saw the difference in picture quality between DVD and VHS, they stopped buying VHS. I still buy both, since at THIS point both formats offer different things. But that's already changing, and a lot quicker than you might realize.
i dont want blu ray i think they are a waste of money.see my brother in law has hdtv it seems like regular tv to me.its hdtv television and an hd reciver i cant see much of a difference.
If it seems like regular TV, he may not have it set up correctly. Or he might just have a smaller screen. There is a HUGE difference. Either way, whether you like or not not doesn't matter - it's here to stay and is being positioned to replace DVD in the next few years. The world is going HD, plain and simple.
Just more interactive, basically. For example, you can call up a "pop-up" menu while you're watching the movie, without having to actually EXIT the movie to go to the menu. Then you can just jump straight to a bonus feature or whatever, then when you're done you can jump right back into the movie where you left off. There are also interactive online features using "BD-Live." It just gives you a lot more options as to how you can customize your experience.
DVD is standard definition (720x480 resolution), Blu-ray is high definition (1920x1080 resolution). The result is, if you're watching on a HDTV, you get substantially more detail, more natural color, and just overall a much better picture than anything DVD can provide. Many Blu-ray movies also feature uncompressed or lossless audio. The menus and interactive features of Blu-ray are far more advanced than what DVD is capable of. In short, it's a much higher quality format with more features.
An elitist is someone who goes on about how much better he thinks one things is over another, and refuses to look at anything less. so the implication that I was a Blu-ray elitist suggested that I ONLY watch Blu-ray now. Which is completely false, as should be obvious from my still growing DVD collection, and my various other collections from over the years. I felt it was time to set the record straight, hence this series of videos.
Batman Returns was on HDTV a few nights ago, it did look very good, however just to have some fun I compared it to my Special Edition 2-Disc DVD Version. I played it in a Panasonic DVD player, and HD-A2 Upscaling player.
Couple of things to consider there - most HD television broadcasts in 720p, not 1080p. It's also HEAVILY compressed compared to watching it on Blu-ray (or DVD, for that matter). so I'm actually not surprised there wasn't much difference under those circumstances. Compressed broadcast 720p really wouldn't look much better than an upscaled DVD. TV size is also a factor. Wait for the Blu-ray, THEN do a comparison.
BTW, I have those 2-Disc version as well. Isn't that an awesome set of the 80's and 90's Batman movies? :D Glad I waited and didn't get the barebones editions form a few years back. The entire 4-movie Legacy Collection is coming out on Blu (with all the same contents) a little later this year.
If you want to see a good DVD vs Blu comparison, check the screenshots link to the Blade Runner pics on my latest Blu-ray update video.
The Batman Anthology DVD BoxSet is an awesome DVD set, and one of the best ones I think, I bought it the day it came out because I was so excited about it.
I am aware of the Blu-Ray set coming out, but to be honest I am quite happy with the quality of the DVDs though. The Blu-Ray versions will not have the DTS audio.
However I am still interested in seeing on how Batman and Batman Returns will look on Blu-Ray, If I ever see them for very cheap I would buy them.
Actually, it's more like 40 inches (both Annetta's folks and mine have 40 inch 1080p sets, and there's an obvious difference between 720 and 1080 on them). Not as dramatic as larger sets, but still apparent.
But by all means, 720p is still quite a step up from 480i. My point was that it wasn't really a balanced comparison comparing a broadcast 720p image to an upscaled DVD. (And even upscaled it's still only 480, just with less noticeable artifacting - you can't make silk from a sow's ear!)
I have a Bluray player via my PS3. I have a standard definition Tv. I can still see the difference in picture quality between DVD and BR clearly on the standard tv. I loves my BR and hope to get a HDTV at some point.
Even though I own an HDTV, I still wanted to see if there was a difference between DVD and Blu-Ray on a Regular TV and when I tried there was no difference.
However when I compared them HDTV I could see the difference.
It also depends on what cables you use for the DVD Player, Blu-Ray Player/ PS3.
On SDTV, there isn't much difference at all. But the difference there IS 9wchih I mentioned in a video a few months back when I watched 2001) is that you see ZERO compression artifacts, whereas even the best DVD will show artifacting from time to time.
For SDTV, the best video cable would be S-Video. For HDTV, it's HDMI all the way. Anything less, and you won't see a difference in that case either. But Blu-ray on an HDTV with an HDMI cable? No comparison, there's a significant difference.
Annetta works full time in the medical field, and I'm a stay at home dad. In my spare time, I make money form my website primarily. Not a ton, but enough to give us some extra "fun money" once in a while. So between the two of us, we make enough to cover our expenses and maintain our hobbies as well. Hoping to expand my web ventures over this year, and turn it into a PROPER second income. Then we can buy even MORE DVDs and Blu-rays! :D
Yeah, I've been slowly transferring all my VHS stuff over to DVD. The quality isn't so bad if you have the means to time base correct the video signal (which I do), and especially not so bad if it was recorded in SP (2 hour speed) instead of EP (6 hour speed) originally. Even better if it has hi-fi sound. I guess In was lucky in that back in the day I had a decent VCR (hi-fi stereo), and made a point of always recording in SP for the best picture quality. So now, it transfer QUITE nicely.
m&m's are always part of a workstation...by the way for my geekeiness,do you know if sex and the city is gonna be out for blu ray? i know you dont like womens shows like that but do you know?
On any given day, you'll find a wide and varied assortment of munchies on or near my workstation. Most often big bags of potato chips, with some assorted chocolates.
This may surprise you, but I've seen pretty much the entire series of Sex and the City. Several times. Annetta had all the Season sets and watched them a lot, then much to my surprise, I found myself sitting down, watching it with her, and enjoying it! Great show. No word on a Blu version yet, HBO's being slow with their shows.
Holy Crap thats alot of stuff. I think i'mma gonna hold out for the bluray versions of the new battlestar galactica show.I've no doubt it'll be a fantastic visual orgasm. You heard any news on that? Jayce on laserdisc? wow. i still have my jayce in the box. havesn't cracked her open yet.
There's a rumor that it MIGHT be the first Complete Series set to make its way to Blu-ray (meaning for a multi-season show). But LOST will be getting the Complete Series Blu treatment around the same time, so there's a lot of betting going on as to who will make it first! But it's definitely coming. Just no official word on exactly WHEN yet...
How do you think the global economy in meltdown is going to effect dvd/blu ray sales. Are companies going to release less choice and variety due to many potential buyers only buying their 'must have' discs and not lesser known movies and tv series?
what do you think about things moving towards digital downloads,,would you like to have all your movies on a hard drive,,,and the visual collection kind of disapear
I don't see physical media disappearing any time soon, if ever. First off, the current limits on bandwidth and download speed make downloading full Blu-ray quality movies impractical. Just because it may be a 1080p file, doesn't mean it's the same bitrate/quality as the Blu-ray version. Second, the convenience of just going out, buying a Blu-ray, taking it home, and watching it vs the hours upon hours downloading an HD movie. Third, as you say - I like having something I can display.
In short, mp3 and iTunes didn't kill the CD. Torrents and filesharing didn't kill the DVD. Likewise, Digital Downloads won't kill Blu-ray (or physical media in general). It WILL, however, be a nice option for those who prefer it. Just like how mp3 is an option for people now with music. It will have its place, there IS demand for it, but it won't replace physical media.
That's SINGLES, though. The singles market has been pretty much dead for a long time now. I'm not surprised that downloads took that over, it's just more convenient for singles. It's quite different downloading a 5-10 meg mp3 vs a 20-50 gig movie.
Did you make that beat at the end and beginning, they sound odd but catchy XD. Man lol you have a collection that makes people like me go in envy. I have more books, but no where near movies like that.
Yep! That's one of mine. The track is called "Background1," as I originally made it to be like the background beats you hear when radio DJ's are talking about upcoming concerts or whatever. The mp3 is available as a free download from my website. :)
I love that old black Sony Handycam that you show at the end of the short camcorder montage. I have one of that kind of design from '92 except it's much more basic.
That was a pretty sweet camcorder for its day. It had a built-in titler that let you do simple 2-color digitizing. So you could write your title on a piece of paper, digitize it in the camcorder, filter out the paper and just have the text to overlay on your video. You could do some pretty nifty stuff with that. :)
And I thought I have a lot of players for different formats. Just a record player, VHS VCR (x2 for editing), r2r tape recorder (x4), cassette deck, LD player for analog and floppy (3.5" and 5.25"), CD/DVD, miniDV and LTO-1 for digital :)
That's a pretty sweet equipment list! I didn't even show everything...only 1 VCR nowadays, my second (and third and fourth) ones died on me... Have a nice cassette deck, never had any reel to reel gear though! Then there are my 3 Amiga computers in storage, and my Apple IIc computer...and the various odds bits of tech I've accumulated over the years. Aren't gadgets fun? :D
We do indeed! About half of the trunk with ym Laserdiscs in it is actually records. And I have another box of records in one of our other closets. Alas, we don't currently have a record PLAYER anymore... We'll get one again eventually.
LOGITECH !!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHH MY FAVE and shawn i have to confess i'm one of those far out people... i have a muti region or free vode players. i'm a nut i have region 2 3 movies, hong kong movies, don't get me wrong i have u.s movies too...... Sorry for me going insane here :)
Logitech is indeed awesome! When I'm looking for computer peripherals, they're the first brand I look at most of the time. We really need to get a multi-region player again one of these days, I miss our old one. :(
Ouch...that's not good. Well, their actually products have been good to me over the years. Seems like a LOT of the big companies are having issues in the support department lately. I've heard similar stories (and had similar issues) with a few companies the past year. I'm thinking the recession has caused a lot of support staff to get the axe...
Yes, the physical products are good, almost anyone would agree, even the people that have problems with the software, they all say it on the forums there.
It does seem like the staff isn't even there in a way, or they've been replaced with incompetent employees, I don't know.
Hopefully they're actually working on something to fix all the problems in one release/update...
Luckily the halfazzed software doesn't make the hardware completely useless for most people.
Makes me glad the only Logitech gear I have doesn't require software - two sets of speakers and a USB Mouse. :D Oh no wait a minute, got a Logitech webcam too...but it's older, and the software works fine. Hopefully they can sort out their issues.

We organize our living shelf like this,
The blu-rays are kept together in the same row and the DVDs continue the leftover space, being that there's only 20 blu-rays that have been bought since 12/7/2008, it's not worth an extra shelf yet.
bluto1992 2 years ago
Please don't mix your blu-ray with DVD, it makes me so uncomfortable, for me it all has to be neat, blu ray in the middle of DVD ire's me greatly, nice collection though.

I made a deal with myself, if i have it on dvd, i wont replace it on bluray. Any new movie that comes out, i get on bluray. So far i have stuck to this resolution. Apart from Goodfellas because my dvd of this movie was a crappy edition with half the movie on side a and the other on side b, before the days of dual layer dvd's.

Do you have the Batman Movie Anthology Boxed Set on Blu Ray?
SMOKEWEED559 2 years ago
Not yet. I had the original DVD release of that a while ago, but haven't upgraded the the Blu-ray version yet. I see it recently dropped in price, so I'm hoping to pick it up soon.

Yeah the price did drop for the Batman Movie Boxed Set I was at Best Buy earlier & it was on sale for $46.99.The regular price for it was $94.99.

@Zacharypwns You realize if you give no money to Hollywood, Holllywood will stop making movies right? You understand that? You're stealing. Unless it's public domain then, but I still prefer to buy them.

Zoisitetta 2 years ago
I don't think you should replace all your dvds with blu-ray, think about the money. Also, dvds are already really good enough, I mean they're on disc format, you'll be able to play them forever. Blu-ray players play dvds. Just a suggestion.
BigFatCheese100 2 years ago
I'll replace the ones that come out with Blu-ray versions, but I'm sure it will be a very long time before everything I have (especially the old TV shows and cartoons) see the light of day on Blu, if ever. DVD is the THIRD format I've collected since I started with VHS and Laserdisc back in the day. So one more added into the mix doesn't make a big difference to me. I don't mind re-purchasing if it's a significant upgrade in quality, which Blu-ray is.
Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
I have a question for you zaranyzerak, if a VHS was eating pop tarts (hypothetically) would it be legal for a blu ray disc to smash a LCD testicle over its head? please get back to me very soon as I have a nasty venerial disease that I probably wont survive, goodnyt god bless and may god have mercy on your ovaries

And here we have someone else who didn't even watch the video, or notice that I actually have ANOTHER video that I put out around the same time addressing the alleged "Sony Fanboy" nonsense. Do try to pay attention next time.
Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
It will co-exist for a while, that's pretty much a given. Especially since much material on DVD only exist as standard def masters anyway (many old TV shows, for example), so the only point to putting it on Blu-ray would be to fit more episodes per disc, an bump the bitrate up a bit for a slight boost in quality. But here's the thing - adoption rate for Blu-ray has been far faster than it was for DVD. The price of hardware and software has also dropped MUCH faster than DVD did.
Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
Most people who think that upscaling is "good enough" for their HDTV's have a tendency to change their tune when they actually play a Blu-ray disc on it for the first time. There's no comparison in quality. Just like when people saw the difference in picture quality between DVD and VHS, they stopped buying VHS. I still buy both, since at THIS point both formats offer different things. But that's already changing, and a lot quicker than you might realize.
Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
question will anime, wwe, and disney stuff go on blu ray? I might get ps3 next yr, it plays blu ray dvds I think
wwefan07863 3 years ago
i dont want blu ray i think they are a waste of money.see my brother in law has hdtv it seems like regular tv to me.its hdtv television and an hd reciver i cant see much of a difference.
rickt80 3 years ago
If it seems like regular TV, he may not have it set up correctly. Or he might just have a smaller screen. There is a HUGE difference. Either way, whether you like or not not doesn't matter - it's here to stay and is being positioned to replace DVD in the next few years. The world is going HD, plain and simple.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
far more advanced menu how?.what would it look like?.
rickt80 3 years ago
Just more interactive, basically. For example, you can call up a "pop-up" menu while you're watching the movie, without having to actually EXIT the movie to go to the menu. Then you can just jump straight to a bonus feature or whatever, then when you're done you can jump right back into the movie where you left off. There are also interactive online features using "BD-Live." It just gives you a lot more options as to how you can customize your experience.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
what is an elitist?.just wondering what makes blu ray better than dvd?.
rickt80 3 years ago
DVD is standard definition (720x480 resolution), Blu-ray is high definition (1920x1080 resolution). The result is, if you're watching on a HDTV, you get substantially more detail, more natural color, and just overall a much better picture than anything DVD can provide. Many Blu-ray movies also feature uncompressed or lossless audio. The menus and interactive features of Blu-ray are far more advanced than what DVD is capable of. In short, it's a much higher quality format with more features.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
An elitist is someone who goes on about how much better he thinks one things is over another, and refuses to look at anything less. so the implication that I was a Blu-ray elitist suggested that I ONLY watch Blu-ray now. Which is completely false, as should be obvious from my still growing DVD collection, and my various other collections from over the years. I felt it was time to set the record straight, hence this series of videos.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
Batman Returns was on HDTV a few nights ago, it did look very good, however just to have some fun I compared it to my Special Edition 2-Disc DVD Version. I played it in a Panasonic DVD player, and HD-A2 Upscaling player.
I honestly could not tell the difference.
Riddler95 3 years ago
Couple of things to consider there - most HD television broadcasts in 720p, not 1080p. It's also HEAVILY compressed compared to watching it on Blu-ray (or DVD, for that matter). so I'm actually not surprised there wasn't much difference under those circumstances. Compressed broadcast 720p really wouldn't look much better than an upscaled DVD. TV size is also a factor. Wait for the Blu-ray, THEN do a comparison.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
BTW, I have those 2-Disc version as well. Isn't that an awesome set of the 80's and 90's Batman movies? :D Glad I waited and didn't get the barebones editions form a few years back. The entire 4-movie Legacy Collection is coming out on Blu (with all the same contents) a little later this year.
If you want to see a good DVD vs Blu comparison, check the screenshots link to the Blade Runner pics on my latest Blu-ray update video.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago

Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
I have a Bluray player via my PS3. I have a standard definition Tv. I can still see the difference in picture quality between DVD and BR clearly on the standard tv. I loves my BR and hope to get a HDTV at some point.
mesparza1 3 years ago
Even though I own an HDTV, I still wanted to see if there was a difference between DVD and Blu-Ray on a Regular TV and when I tried there was no difference.
However when I compared them HDTV I could see the difference.
It also depends on what cables you use for the DVD Player, Blu-Ray Player/ PS3.
Riddler95 3 years ago
On SDTV, there isn't much difference at all. But the difference there IS 9wchih I mentioned in a video a few months back when I watched 2001) is that you see ZERO compression artifacts, whereas even the best DVD will show artifacting from time to time.
For SDTV, the best video cable would be S-Video. For HDTV, it's HDMI all the way. Anything less, and you won't see a difference in that case either. But Blu-ray on an HDTV with an HDMI cable? No comparison, there's a significant difference.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
Some of the SDTVs had Component Video inputs. I have a Sony Trinitron from 2002 and it has component video.

And yeah, personally I never thought of you as a fanboy/elitist of anything besides being a movie-elitist of sorts. XD
But you know, I already thought you just went for both quality and content.
However, I understand how people might think you're this "best-of-the-best" guy in a bad way, because there are a lot of those figures.
And at a glance you might seems like "another one of those guys".
If they don't take a good look at your videos.

You know, I don't really mind keeping original VHS-films, I do that myself for the memories and also a bit to "collect".
But I really despise VHS in general today, I always hated how they would degrade over time, all the issues...
So I think all self-recorded ones should be backed up digitally and then be destroyed. :D
DamageIncM 3 years ago
Yeah, I've been slowly transferring all my VHS stuff over to DVD. The quality isn't so bad if you have the means to time base correct the video signal (which I do), and especially not so bad if it was recorded in SP (2 hour speed) instead of EP (6 hour speed) originally. Even better if it has hi-fi sound. I guess In was lucky in that back in the day I had a decent VCR (hi-fi stereo), and made a point of always recording in SP for the best picture quality. So now, it transfer QUITE nicely.

On any given day, you'll find a wide and varied assortment of munchies on or near my workstation. Most often big bags of potato chips, with some assorted chocolates.

How do you think the global economy in meltdown is going to effect dvd/blu ray sales. Are companies going to release less choice and variety due to many potential buyers only buying their 'must have' discs and not lesser known movies and tv series?

what do you think about things moving towards digital downloads,,would you like to have all your movies on a hard drive,,,and the visual collection kind of disapear
thesixshot 3 years ago
I don't see physical media disappearing any time soon, if ever. First off, the current limits on bandwidth and download speed make downloading full Blu-ray quality movies impractical. Just because it may be a 1080p file, doesn't mean it's the same bitrate/quality as the Blu-ray version. Second, the convenience of just going out, buying a Blu-ray, taking it home, and watching it vs the hours upon hours downloading an HD movie. Third, as you say - I like having something I can display.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
In short, mp3 and iTunes didn't kill the CD. Torrents and filesharing didn't kill the DVD. Likewise, Digital Downloads won't kill Blu-ray (or physical media in general). It WILL, however, be a nice option for those who prefer it. Just like how mp3 is an option for people now with music. It will have its place, there IS demand for it, but it won't replace physical media.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
Mm Not too sure about this. In the UK the music singles chart only counts download sales as cd singles sales are almost non existent here.
woolcroft 3 years ago
That's SINGLES, though. The singles market has been pretty much dead for a long time now. I'm not surprised that downloads took that over, it's just more convenient for singles. It's quite different downloading a 5-10 meg mp3 vs a 20-50 gig movie.

nowiguess 3 years ago
That was a pretty sweet camcorder for its day. It had a built-in titler that let you do simple 2-color digitizing. So you could write your title on a piece of paper, digitize it in the camcorder, filter out the paper and just have the text to overlay on your video. You could do some pretty nifty stuff with that. :)

Logitech is actually currently lacking support terribly.
I also just got a more advanced mouse from them, but the software is terrible and dozens of people are complaining on the forums.
But after I visited there months ago, they don't seem to be able to come up with much.
DamageIncM 3 years ago
Ouch...that's not good. Well, their actually products have been good to me over the years. Seems like a LOT of the big companies are having issues in the support department lately. I've heard similar stories (and had similar issues) with a few companies the past year. I'm thinking the recession has caused a lot of support staff to get the axe...
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
Yes, the physical products are good, almost anyone would agree, even the people that have problems with the software, they all say it on the forums there.
It does seem like the staff isn't even there in a way, or they've been replaced with incompetent employees, I don't know.
Hopefully they're actually working on something to fix all the problems in one release/update...
Luckily the halfazzed software doesn't make the hardware completely useless for most people.
DamageIncM 3 years ago
Makes me glad the only Logitech gear I have doesn't require software - two sets of speakers and a USB Mouse. :D Oh no wait a minute, got a Logitech webcam too...but it's older, and the software works fine. Hopefully they can sort out their issues.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
Hah, I had almost exactly the same.
The previous mouse was a simpler Logitech, because the one before that stopped working.
They actually both didn't need software.
The current one is the popular MX518 with the "Metal Dents" design.
It cán be used without software, only then you can't customize almost anything.
I also have one of those QuickCams of years ago.
Which doesn't need extra software actually, but it does have recording-software and such, which should still work.
