Is this video you mention that you use a Addon for Dreamweaver which gives you the option to insert the code needed for modules. Which addon is this? Im having trouble finding one that is created for dreamweaver.
Could someone write some thing about adding some CSS to the list menu. It would be verry helpful. Or just post a link to such tutorial. I'm trying to make hrizontal nevigation bar and I can not find the name of the right modul suffix to put some CSS code in my template.css
oh wow i fell like a professional now thanks to this vid! lol only have knwledge of html, but now because of this tutorial i feel like a pro haha. thanks :-)
Sorry you don't have the ability to continue on from where I've taken you thus far. Perhaps you should also check out my latest video. Have a nice day.
relatively easy to follow and understand series, though I generally don't like tutorials that are not heavily edited and extremely easy to follow you did a good job.
I think it is important to understand that nobody is paying you to do this tutorial, I'd also suggest something like camtasia to record your screen cause you can do it full screen and get near 30 fps 1659x1050 so its easier to follow and understand, now that youtube allows that higher resolution stuff etc.
Thanks for the great video's! They helped my a lot. I couldn't find the video where you make the top menu work, did I miss it or didn't you get to that?
@NetreachWebDesign: I understand almost everything and I'm italian, if a northern american finds difficult your accent it means that the problem is not linguistic. :D
Thanks for this useful tutorial, I used your skel template and I left your URI and your name as thank in the copyright.
Thank you! I was feeling overwhelmed for a long time on making custom joomla templates and everywhere I went it seemed overly complicated. All I wanted was to know the very basics of starting a template from scratch, even if it does look "gaudy" in the end ;)
dangit you forgot TOP MODULE shit, i cant keep it horizontal, with LIST it goes vertical please help and when i pjut for HORIZXONTAL i never space the text. :(
I'm using the skeleton joomla template you provided; however, I'm having a heck of a time applying my own css styles to it - such as a page bg. I've checked the joomla.css and template.css formatting/settings and can't seem to find where the problem is. Can you help? I've been able to insert a bg image to the header by naming the name exactly as it is set in the xml file but can't do the same with the page bg. Thx again for your time!

Seriously? It's obvious you know what you are doing. However, your ability to teach and communicate is lacking and very distracted and unfocused. I am an experienced designer but would struggle to understand or follow you if I were starting from scratch.
@iismfl Thanks buddy... however literally 1000's of people have benefited from my videos, and I get loads of positive comments all the time. Often when people make comments like yours it's because they are Nth American and can't understand my accent.

Would just like to give you a shout-out for the great job you did. I am also an experienced designer and now attacking Joomla seriously. You have provided great, GREAT help to understand Joomla. Even though this is a basic simple tutorial, people that do not understand how CMS works will not understand this tutorial very well... calling modules and positions can be confusing, however coming from Wordpress and typo3, i understood everything. Thank you, God bless!
@NetreachWebDesign I disagree with @iismfl I too am an experienced designer and I feel some of these videos have even helped me with techniques. The bottom up approach is a great method of teaching
@NetreachWebDesign These tutorials do help quite a bit. I think what iismfl is trying to say is that it might not be the best idea to deviate off the topic at hand (e.g. Firefox addons, GIMP, etc.). Really though, it doesn't bother me that much, nor do I think it bothers most people because you don't spend that much time focusing on those side items. Plus, the accent is a nice break from the norm that I'm used to in the US.
I just started learning joomla like 1 week ago, and last week I could only install a template , I couldn't find where to start or anything, thanks to your tutorials, I'm completing a second order for a joomla template, they're basic but taken i've only started it a week ago, it's all thanks to you !
@iismfl I have learned more about the inner workings watching this series than all the books on the subject. Seriously if you can do better why don't you. Norm I applaude you for what you are doing as I am sure 1000's other are also.
I am starting from scratch and I am French so not a native English speaker and I understood everything!!!!!!! Ah la la!!! you must have nothing else to do than criticize people who try to help.

fantastic videos, thank you for spending your time to create them.
just ondering if you have any more of these to cover more areas of building a joomla site from scratch, including the stuff you said you tell us how to do later?
looked on you tube cant find any more desent videos so i can do more on my template.
For the frontpage, our component module is desired to have width approx: 520px, but when I actually view content in this and want to view it bigger, it gets the same width: 520px.
Do we have to create a new template to be used for this underlaying template viewing or can it be solved with CSS? I have tried to set the width to "auto", but then it just zooms out and our two columns on the right of the frontpage just get pushed down and lines up underneath the main component.
not the same thing. you can get this plugin at adobe's website. just search for "D-Form Joomla 1.5 templatebuilder v.1.0" in the downloads exchange area. :)
Your tutorial is just what I needed, straight to the point, starting with a clean slate example. AWESOME.....

Most of the Joomla extensions are COMMERCIAL. SO IT AINT FREE.
DRUPAL MODULES ARE ALL FREE
ginost7 8 months ago
@ginost7 "Most"?? More than 60% are non-commercial... how does that = "most".
Commercial GPL is best for everyone... means that I get higher quality extensions and on-going development.
But please... don't start a DRUPAL vs JOOMLA conversation here... nobody wants to hear it. Thanks
