  • i just did it!! :D

  • how long to do all that??

  • Addiction...I'm addicted to your videos my friend.

  • screw adding water i added stock ;p

  • Mmmmm....i can eat the whole pot alone.

  • round the outside!! i wasn't expecting that :)))

anyway, i do this in a pan. i love to spend some quality time with the pan, we're good friends.

  • 3:31 Why Chef John. WHY DO YOU TORTURE US?!!!!!!!

  • Incredible. Me want.

  • chef john, could i make meatballs in that sauce?

  • Chef John, your making me cum.

  • Chef Batman!

  • i have herbs planted... but they aint for cooking.

  • @oKASHmANo you could "bake" them

  • @oKASHmANo And they aint to brag around......

  • @oKASHmANo They could be.. Just saying

  • @ZoeyJW ik :) i just wnted to get the point across.

  • So roasted tomato sauce.. can you use it as a pizza dough? Also, can this be used as a replacement to his regular tomato sauce recipe?

  • @RockyBalboa211 you want to use Sauce to replace pizza dough?

  • @MeDmAnQcA: Sorry, my stupidity was showing there. I meant, "Can I use this sauce as a sauce that would be placed on Pizza Dough?"

  • @RockyBalboa211 IT would be perfect! This is very similar to the traditional tomato sauce used on most pizzas.

  • @MeDmAnQcA: Thank you! :D

  • well where I live we don't have that kind of tomatoes...

  • @MAPG888 He doesn't either. So he goes to a shop and buy it :)))

  • Why do people have to say it's not authentic or whatever? Get over yourself, no one gives a damn. He's making these videos to show the average Joe how to DIY. He's not serving professional food critics, nor are we. We want good, easy food for our families. If you're some wannabe Italian looking for "authentic" ways to make tomato sauce on YouTube for your restaurant, GTFO. Your restaurants going to be a failure. No one gives a shit as long as it tastes good. Chef John is going to cook 10000x be

  • I made this tonight for my family and they loved it. I have a couple tips:

    1. As the chef mentions, don't skimp on the canned tomatoes. I got a generic brand (only one available to me at the time) and it had more water than tomato.

    2. Don't get too crazy on the goat cheese. As much as I love it, it can easily overpower this dish. You can add more later if you like, but start off small.

Aside from those notes, I followed this recipe to a T and it turned out wonderful. Thanks chef!

  • Hello there citzen, would you like to cook with batman?

  • Haha... my science teacher makes that "around the outside, around the outside, around the outside" joke when he talks about electrons ^^

  • i'm hungry :(

  • I just had a Food-Orgasm

  • I´ve done this one for three or four times.

Can I put some bacon slices with the tomato on the oven? will it work?

  • @wilbathke total rookie question. bacon always works and it always makes things better

  • holy-macaroni-chef-batman :)

  • "holy macaroni chef batman" best quote ever

  • Chef John: Lemme dig in here...Aw, just that deep rich caramelized tomato sauce, that fragrant oregano, that tangy, creamy, just DELICIOUS goat cheese, sorta melted, sorta not melted...*brings fork closer* What a great bite of food!

Me: GIMME THAT FORK. RIGHT NOW.

    Chef John: *Pans out*

    Me: Dammit.

  • this is in my oven RIGHT NOW

  • can you make this with fresh tomatoes?

  • Give a look to my "toriera di Bucatini"

    pasta cooked amond fresh tomatoes.

    ciao from Italy

    anna

  • I love how you say, "tomata" and "potata" You are definitely from the east coast. :)

  • fuck yessss random Eminem reference.

  • Damn that looks great. If you want a faster version I have one for week nights. Check out mustgrill baked mac.

  • I torture myself by watching these videos. I want food :(

  • Brb, drooling.

  • You can do this in a food processor, if you wanna, you know, click the food processor. haha

  • Haha you pronounce oregano strangely.

  • I am drooling...

  • sorry wrong typo, CANCER*

  • same questions, how can we eat that burned one? that would cause cancel. I think the burned is due to high temperature or long time roast. when we cook we also have to think about healthy.

  • love it. great food and humor. "if you wanna clean a food processor." lol

  • Useless complications and too much time needed. Use fresh tomatoes instead, they are much better.

  • why am i watching this ? it,s Ramadan ://

  • @abareemo82 i kept watching these vidos while ramadhan lol

    looking for some ideas :9

  • This was such an awesome sauce! It was so good and the goat cheese (which I had never tried) gave it an extra kick! And it was too easy to make! Wonderful dish!

  • I've combined this sauce with this recipe: /watch?v=JwbIYiGLvUo

    it was yummy ^^

  • @SpringSound87 how was it not REAL tomato sauce? did my eyes deceive me? were those tomatoes plastic, i dont think so, if your saying its not Authentic Italian, who cares, pasta sauces have been round the world for years!!

  • @SpringSound87 I'm American and you're a dick.

  • I made this recently! It was delicious! Only problem? Cleaning up that casserole dish! Otherwise, I looooooved this sauce.

  • At 2:09, you could use some redwine or some stock and therefore maybe just 1 cup of water, so there would be some more taste ;)

  • @Tokow1 Oooh, that sounds really good. What red wine would you recommend.

  • @christschool

I can´t recommend you anything special, but I think almost any red wine would work. I would use some simple dry red wine.

  • You sound like Randy Marsh when you say "Enjoy!"

  • 1:54 did he just quote eminem's "without me"? damn really love my dad but for real, will u be my 2nd dad :$

  • i made it.. came out sour and watery.. what did i do wrong ):

  • It looks super delicious! I gonna try that one out for sure!!!

  • this is the most delicious thing in the history of humanity

  • don't look it when you're hungry

  • why use the oven instead of the stove?

  • mean while in finland...

  • i just made it, it tastes good, but of course it looses its fruityness. I dont think that I prefer that method, but still thanks!

  • 1:30 - mmm, I'd eat that straight out of the pan, lol!

  • ditalini means "fingerings" in italian...

  • suscribed;)!

  • No salt? and why didn't you add basil?

  • @wrathof You didn't watch the whole video.

  • @wrathof You didn't watch the whole video.

  • @Giefan Why you say that? :)

  • @wrathof Because he does add salt. :|

  • @Giefan Oh must have missed it. No need to be so serious :)

  • @wrathof Yes. I need to be. :|

  • @Giefan Douche bag >.>

  • @wrathof Thanks.

  • around the outside, around the outside, aaround the outside.

  • shouldn't you cut the petiole out of those tomatoes first ??

  • BEIGNETS!!! pleasseeee

  • So... would adding meat ompletely ruin the dish?

  • `lol "around the outside, around the outside, around the outside"

  • You should get an award for food porn :X.

  • this idea works sooooooooooooo good, thanks John!

  • I made this with half a cup less water for pizza sauce and it is fantastic. As I ate the tidbits of tomato from the pan that didn't make it to the water, I imagine the roasted tomatos would be good as spread on bread. Anybody try that?

  • This recipe is worth a million bucks easily...I mean the sauce alone my goodness.

  • Yummy, I am definitely going to try this and I like that pasta shape. The goat cheese is a nice touch.

  • Pasta has now become a global staple and therefore you can be forgiven about this recipe. However, from an italian point of view, you could have chosen a better pasta type to go with this recipe, like penne.

In fact, tomato sauce should only be combined to pasta that can be eaten with a fork. Ditalini are normally used for soup based recipes like minestrone and eaten with a spoon!

Also, IMO the roasting process does not add anything different to the same sauce slowly cooked on a stove.

  • @NickHK168 For the sauce, it is so much easier this way in the oven

  • I made it yesterday and yummy... and I have discerning little Italian pallets .. thanks..

  • HOW CAN SOMEBODY DISLIKE THIS??!

  • It looks amazing!

  • Chef- can you use chicken stock instead of water to make the sauce more rich?

  • Were those trailer park girls goin' round the outside, round the outside, round the outside ;)

    Chef John rocks!

  • cari amici Americani la pasta lasciatela fare agli Italiani

  • Around the outside. Around the outside. Around the outside.

  • I love how you say "tomaytuh"! ((hugs)) Hey- I need something yummy I can cook in a big pot for 12 hungry 7 year old Girl Scouts on their 1st camping trip. Something more yummy than plain ol' goulash. Any ideas? Needs to be foolproof, and yes- I will cook on a stove, not over a campfire. (Yes, I'm a wimp).

  • Now that's another great idea of yours. Goes straight to my everyday menu list. I owe you a big kiss.

  • Dude, I would replace you for my dad ANY day.

Even if he wins a million bucks

    food is better >:D

  • Damn I'm drooling

  • I fapped to this.

  • love it

  • this isnt how you do it.

    regards from italy

  • @thesofakillers LOL. Typical. Italians always fight over how to "do" anything food-related. As if there's only 1 way to cook and that is yours.

  • Bravo!!!!!

  • this looks delicious! i will have to try it out soon!

  • i just bought the ingredients... >.< hope it comes out really good tomorrow =P

  • Oh gosh now I'm hungry

  • Thank you!

  • im eating this right now.. yummy yummyyy :P

  • Will you be my dad?? :)

  • plan some herb... go green

  • Chef John did it again....

  • should you be using olive oil at that high of a temperature? I'm pretty sure the max temperature for olive oil is 190 degrees. After that it turns toxic. I think avocado oil would work better as it can tolerate the 450 degree temperature.

  • @blowcarrot We're talking about an oven here. The air temperature may be 450° but the food will never come close to that unless you forget it for hours and hours. In this the oil is used more to add flavor rather than a cooking medium where the oils smoke point would come in to factor.

  • should i worry about that ring around the outside around the outside around the outside? Oh no Chef John said not to worry about the ring around the outside around the outside around the outside.

  • You're the best!! I love your recipes and your way of presenting them :)

  • tomatah

  • I thought I was weird for always putting goat cheese on my pasta, so I feel less weird now. also this sauce looks amazing, I will definitely try it someday!

  • I love you Chef John. I just....love you! This looks delicious! *drools*

  • this is why i love youtube! everything you wanna see is in here! wow!

  • Made dinner tonight with this recipe (added a little cooking wine before the second 15 minutes in the oven) and everyone loved it. Thanks Chef John!

  • omg looks so good have to try this

  • Your are the best chef i swear ..i wish u all the best and pliiiiz keep these wonderful recipes coming!

  • Mmmmmmmmm! Tomato sauces and pasta is my all time fave! Going to have to try this one soon

  • almost time for sleep

and now i'm just soooo hungry >.<

  • @foodwishes Is there something else one could add to the sauce instead of water? I just want to make that sauce as rich and tomatoe-y as possible!

  • @collegehumorrules you could add stock instead, if you wanted to make it really really rich, though I haven't tried this, so it might be kind of flavour over-load.

  • i love you chef john

  • it's about 12.30am in australia and watching this video makes me want to eat pastaaaa !

  • Debating whether or not I'd be willing to give my left hand for a bowl of this right now ;) hehe jk

Looks fantastic though! I'm definitely going to have to try this one

  • very cool and very simple! I love it.

  • lol "round the outside"

  • @1:50 editing error? O_o

  • @xNinjaKingx No. Round the outside!

  • You're youtube's Julia Child!

  • looks great, but aren't you left with onions chunks in the sauce?

and what olive oil did you use: extra virgin?

  • Can i add some kind of protein in the sauce?if yes whhat kind of meat is your suggestion?

  • Can i add some kind of protein in the sauce?if yes whhat kind of meat is your suggestion?

  • @turara No reason you couldn't add a protein to the sauce. I would braise something like chuck or veal shank with the liquid from the tomatoes and a little water if necessary. When the meat is tender I would add it and the braising liquid to the roasted tomatoes after they were mashed/blended. Check out his True Blood pasta with beef neck sauce video on the side bar for another nice meat sauce recipe.

  • pure porn.

  • you should of added some beans to the sauce and made a pasta e fagioli:).. but really nice recipe:)

  • ugh you're evil chef. im hungry :(

  • beautiful!!! "Around the outside" lmfao!!!!!

  • love the eminem joke...lol

  • He really does need a show.

  • it looks so good ! i feel hungry right now :D

  • Wanted to check out the full recipe and typed foodwishes into the bar, and then "foodwishes onion rings" showed up :D

  • YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMAYE

  • the only thing that would make this better would be if a naked woman was serving it to me.

  • I'd probably use this as an excuse to get the grill fired up, and grill a chicken alongside with the tomatoes.

  • hmm idk if i was the one that only got this but at 1:13 chef john said "you gotta plant some herbs c'mon" ............i think we all know what herbs youre talking about chef john ;) hehe

  • Looks outstanding Chief !! =)

  • i thought your suppose to only add pasta to sauce not sauce to pasta ;-p

  • round the outside :)

  • Music?

  • Looks amazing, but are there are any other cheeses I could use, I've never been fond of goat cheese.

  • I LOVE THIS SAUCE! I just got done making it and it smells just as fantastic as it tastes!

  • Yeah, i plant SOME herbs

  • Haha Eminem reference again xD

  • What about adding some Tuna too this tomato sauce? Do you think that'd work, John?

  • awesome

  • lol around the outside, around the outside around the outside xD

  • Well, I hate you. It's midnight here in Croatia and I'm hungry now. I'm on a diet but after watching this... again, I hate you :)

  • A very very very very very good recipe. yum

  • Hm. So you roast it in the oven to get all the liquid out, then transfer it to a pot and put the liquid back in?

That doesn't seem right. But then again it looks fantastic. I need to try it. :)

  • 3:24 dont y mean holy ditalini instead lol

  • This should be fine to freeze the left over right?
