zagreb is beautiful! i cant believe that it was so unimportant during the middle ages (ie)in 1851 the population was a lowly 14,000 people. Sarajevo on the other hand registered over 80,000 residents in 1660 alone but that was only because it was the jugular vein of the ottoman empire whereas zagreb was more of a toy or "pawn" of the king of hungary who would spend no more than 10 minutes in croatia in general. Its hard to imagine zagreb advancing today if christian europe did not help out

The croats were treated as pawns and faggots by the pope because they had converted to the catholic faith only to expand their borders. Originally the croat monks were more closely linked to Byzantium but since dalmacija and slavonia were inhabited by catholic illyrians, they to converted to Catholicism. We must consider how small the proto-serb/croats really were. The croats were lead by 4 brothers who were about 5'7 tall and 2 fat sisters. As for the serbs, they were lead by the "Unknown Archont", someone so unimportant that his name was not even preserved.
This is why the serbs and croats invested the most into these 19th century nationalist movements. Their claims are based on ultra skeptic and re-written myths such as white and red serbs/croats - all inventions of the 19th century.
