@SpiralPegasus I think you still might be confusing the two.
Outrun2: OR2 course (15 levels), Daytona/Scud Race Bonus levels, 1986 arcade port of the original Outrun.
OR2006: OR2 course (15 levels), OR2SP course (15 levels), 15 continuous of both, new music/cars, no Daytona/Scud levels, no 1986 port
OR2 only got an XBox release, OR2006 was on XBox, PS2, PC and PSP. Online arcade only had the SP stages, but had effects missing from the 2006 port of the SP stages.
The sailing ship from Daytona USA CCE Deluxe (Seaside St. Galaxy) was also removed from the track as well. Why did they go through all the trouble to put these tracks in here and leave stuff out?!
Hey there SestrenNK & anyone else who's posted a response here, could I interest you in joining my campaign to try and get Scud Race converted to PS3 and 360? Just Google search "Scud Race PS3" and it's the second link from the top. Thanks in advance if you do!
That's OR2006, though, so that doesn't really apply here since these stages are exclusive to the XBox version of OR2, and had a completely different method of unlocking things.
Clear all Stage 4 or Stage 6 missions in Challenge Mode, and they should be yours. You might have to check all of the available cards in the gallery once this is done. I think you can only play them in Time Attack, as "Bonus Stage 1" and "Bonus Stage 2". As for which one is Scud Race, I can't remember.
Man, how long did it take for you to get such a perfect run? I've just been playing solidly for about 3 hours and the best position I can get is 6th. That last track's just too feckin' twisty. Also, how do you do this turn here 1:54 so quickly without skidding off? No matter how much I try and control my powerslide through it, I always hit the right handside corner, unless I break pretty much all the way through it.
Funny you should ask. It definitely took a while, either because I crashed, got under first, or my older computer screwed up the recording, the last more than usual. Then when I attempted to re-record this when YT when widescreen (like I did with the OR2 Daytona vid), I just couldn't get anywhere near first for whatever reason. Then my old machine died and got a new one and thanks to Vista 64-bit, lost recording capabilities.
Anyhoo, for that turn in the ruins, since I'm doing shift-drifting as opposed to brake-drifting, you can see I'm on the outer edge when I start powersliding. From what I remember I steered the hardest I could just to get close enough to the inner ring, and keep drifting until I'm able to "sling shot" into the next powerslide for the next turn. I know I had problems with that one, but when I unlocked the two bonus courses I was so excited I practiced them many times.
Yep, that's a Sega racer for you. They'll always make sure you're missing something if you're not doing manual. Thankfully not as complicated as Daytona or Scud Race, but shift-drifting makes a huge difference in this game. Cheers indeed. =)
I finally managed to come first on the Daytona track, thought I'd absolutely stormed it, but when I checked your other video you did it 6 seconds faster than me. Argghh. I'm really going to have to give shift drifting a go. I've posted the vid if you're interested. Not quite as good as yours, but I was still pretty pleased.
Xbox OutRun2 versions of the Scud Race/ Super GT and Daytona USA 2 tracks are significantly downgraded from the 1996 & 1998 arcade versions on the MODEL 3 board.
*downgraded textures
*missing lighting
*missing animation
*no anti-aliasing
*framerate dips below 60fps
MODEL 3 was incredibly powerful for its time, 14 years ago, with its twin Real3D-Pro/1000 chips from Lockheed-Martin. In many ways this was superior to the PowerVR2DC / CLX2 graphics chip in Dreamcast.
Sorry, I meant 13 years ago (1996 --> 2009), but actually, the MODEL 3 board was basicly completed in 1995, but the hardware & games both suffered delays. So MODEL 3 is indeed 14 year old technology.
I was glad to see Sega made an attempt to briefly bring Scud Race to the home console. That racer rocked the arcades when it first debuted. I was in heaven ^_^
thanks for posting this. i agree what you say in your lead in story. those realistic games are way less fun than outrun 2 and other arcade games. respect to sega and sumo digital cause of the inclusion of the never seen tracks on a home system. to bad scud race and daytona usa 2 can not be played at the arcades in the netherlands.
A few disappointments... Super GT/SCUD Race NEVER released for home, this track not in the PS2 version, and maybe that I wished you could race all of the regular four courses as opposed to just one long stage of inter-connected tracks. One of the best arcade racing games to never be released for console (I even made a recent YouTube video vocalizing my support and love for this game). Great driving. Only thing even better would have been if the Igol Ferrari F40 GTE from Super GT were included.
It's a great shame this stage isn't available in the PlayStation versions of "OutRun 2006: Coast-to-Coast." That was one of the reasons why I wanted that game for my PS2. Not to say this isn't a bad game (because it isn't), but this stage is awesome. Only thing better would have been to release Super GT for consoles as part of a Sega racing package. By the way, even better if this game had the Igol Ferrari F40 found in Super GT to be raced in this game.
Hmm... It would have been cool if they had also worked in the super beginner course from Scud Race Plus, but still, this is a nice addition.
You really have to admire the power of the Model 3 board when viewing this. Daytona 2 and Scud had so much eye candy running at a full 60fps. There's still no perfect port of these games 10 years later...
Damn. Work on your skills and you may be able to master the actual games themselves! Kudos for finishing! (Both OutRun 2 and Scud Race/SEGA Super GT) No wonder you hate Classic Castle - It's the expert course! Great drifting :D

Hey, triple A, lol you're not THAT bad of a driver! :P (those last few turns were crazy O_O)
Thanks for sharing :)

Hey, your driving ain't half as bad as you make me expected it to be like.
You're actually much better than me.
Also why no Daytona USA extra course on the PS2?
If you feel ripped, imagine me...
SpiralPegasus 7 months ago
@SpiralPegasus Well, Outrun2 wasn't released on the PS2. OR2006, which didn't include the Daytona or Scud Race tracks on any version, was though.
SestrenNK 7 months ago
@SestrenNK AH, wait... I thought the Xbox version had the tracks of Out Run 2 SP (you know, the other 15 levels). It's even, then.
I still wish I had a way to play that Daytona course at home... that wouldn't imply getting an Xbox, of course.

@SestrenNK Much clearer, thank you!
Why didn't OR2 get a PS2 port then? Well, I don't expect you to have that answer anyway...

Too bad you didn't use the F40: then the nostalgia trip would have been complete.
Still though, excellent driving!
