I was climbing a tree behind the Alexandra racecourse in Auckland to see what was happening. As I was sitting there telling my bestfriend what I could see, she was about to climb the tree too till she noticed the " massive spider". It was a bloody giant weta I was so high up I didn't want to climb down, fully missing the weta on the way up. So I jumped down, tried to see where the weta was in the dark. Wasn't hard with the light reflecting off of its back, it was f***ing huge!! That's my story.

That is an extremely large locust, related to the grasshopper. My Grandma told me how a swarm of them nearly devoured their crops and bite them also, when they tried to kill them. We were scared of grasshoppers for many years, as a child. I'm sure you don't have to worry about them.
