  • I hope Utada keeps having lots of success :) She's a true artist, and her music is not just good, it's often very interesting to listen to. She experiments a lot, many styles you could say. That's a thing I really like about her music.

  • she's so pweety.....:)))

  • Jesus, I love her so muuuuuuch!

  • I miss her so much D.:

  • She's dope

  • her hip hop stuff is just as good as the japanese stuff, which is mostly average, some amasing ones like flavour of life though :D

  • I'm starting to get the impression that alot of Utada's fans don't understand her work to begin with. How can you say Exodus was lame?! The only songs that weren't good were the 3 or 2 done by Timbaland everything else was excellent. And Hip-Hop there was elements of that but the majority was just electronics and pop. And kremlin dusk is one of her best songs along with others from the album.

  • Exodus sucked. She tried way too hard to be hip-hop. She should just sing the same songs she has in Japanese in English. Everything else is so lame.

  • she looks alot like my aunty im japanese too :D

  • Why does she always sounds like it hurts to move her mouth?

  • I never realized she was mixed so am i that makes me happy.

  • 大好き☆

  • I just want to give her a hug and let her know how much her music has changed my life. She's just so amazing to me, words can't explain <3

  • I'd be married to her if I wasnt married already. I am kidding I love my wife.

  • Its kinda messed up to say but her voice not being heavily accented just made her sexier lol

  • Utada is a 100% Japanese right? not mix like Anna Tsuchiya?? so she's an American born Japanese right?

  • @puppyomalley yes, she is 100% Japanese. And she was born in New York.

  • She talks like a G

  • i don't understand why people are so surprised she can speak fluent english...hello? she's american!

  • OH SHIT...SHE SPEAKS ENGLISH PERFECTLY

  • @ilyxb00 She was born in New York and didn't move to Tokyo until early 90s. Her being fluent in either language shouldn't be a surprise.

  • @g4fan2007 OHHHHH, well I didn't know that so you don't have to say it like I should've.

  • was that in miami?

  • Love her )= too bad she ~~~ hiatus now )=

  • Comment removed

  • @MsYukiNana what's hiatus?

  • @The15180 Means put everything on hold , or to hide from all things

  • @The15180 a break from music

  • i dont see how her new album didnt get reconised enough, it was a great album and just cause she aint lady gaga or a slut, doesnt mean she should be ignored

  • @EmmiKC Ach! Blow Lady GaGa! She's not worth me tokens in gold!

  • make another one :)

  • Oddly enough, she seems so normal. I like this about her she seems just like a regular person cept shes a star lol :D. <3

  • Same as with Coco Lee.. Asian singers always fail in America.

  • It's so true what she says about culture. You're viewed as foreign nomatter where you are -_-

  • No, Utada Hikaru. THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HARD WORK!

  • OMG HIKKI-CHAN IM UR....well ONE of your BIGGEST FANS!!!! I <3 you!!!!!

  • I can relate to the bit about being a foreigner in both of your countries ♥

  • damn i wish i knew japanese

  • 3:50 thank you for saying that, Im in the same situation (minus the famous part), and thats exactly how I feel.

and I LOVE the Cocteau Twins..

  • i LOVE her music american and japanese!

  • She's great.

  • "And I feel comfortable being an outsider"?? 3:55

    Aww...

  • she watch family guy YAY!

  • she seems like such an awesome person!

  • She was in Miami before in 2009?! I'm stuck here in Florida and I didn't see any promotional picture in my area during that year!? Goodness gracious.... That could've been my only chance of seeing Utada Hikaru without flying over to Japan or New York. ;_; *cries*

  • She is AMAZING!

  • she was grew up in NYC when she was little .

  • I love that she likes old-school music because it suits that she is a superstar.

  • lol i dindt know that she was american/japanese

  • @drigonn She is Japanese. However, we study American English in Japan. Thats why she sounds American.

  • @luvsimon07 She grew up in America. That's why she sounds American.

  • @CTCParadox exactly

  • @CTCParadox Hooo really she grew up in America which country Brasil, Colombia, Guatemala, Chile, where????

  • @ThePaulinoJP Sorry should of been more clear, I meant the USA. New York specifically.

  • @ThePaulinoJP

Give us a break.. When people say America, they mean the United States, and every non-moron knows that.

  • @masanf hahaha only people from the united states know that you dumbass. cuase they are the only ones who call themselves americans hahaha. cause they couldn't think on onother name but americans hahaha please go to school again!!!1

  • @ThePaulinoJP

Hey douchebag, get back to me when you can write a coherent sentence in English. "Onother"? One of us needs to go back to school, and it sure as fuck isn't me.

  • @masanf hahaha yeah i guess that's the only way you can answer back. criticizing the way i write hahah now you try to write in french! and will see. haha dumbass.

  • @ThePaulinoJP

And if you only think people from the United States refer to others from the United States as Americans, you are even more retarded than you first seemed. What should they call themselves, United Statesians? You are a fucking moron.

  • @masanf well. you are the moron cause you can't think a way to call yourselves! haaaaaa dumbass.

  • @ThePaulinoJP Haha, the way you both word your sentences is fucking atrocious

  • @CTCParadox oh yeahh. lol So can she speak fluet Japanese too?

  • @luvsimon07 Yeah of course. :)

  • @luvsimon07 yeah but she grew up in new york that's why.....

  • I love Hikki so much, I would listen to anything, ANYTHING she put out there. Even if she started rapping I would listen to it.

  • utada seems like such a cool person. i wanna meet her!

  • i totally agreed to what she said about the "Not " feeling in either japan or american.Ppl of a different race when born in America are always looked different from both sides. Its so weird.

@musicjunkie2891 I laughed at that too lol i must say shes pretty down to earth!and pretty lol

  • "yeah, well yours is pretty good too!" XD i laughed so hard at that.

  • Why is she so awesome? It never ceases to amaze me how many truly great artists, whether musician or actor, are so modest and pleasant. I haven't listened to her songs in quite a while, but watching this interview made me want to support her just because she's such a sweetheart.

  • Awesome she's Team Coco!

  • she doesnt move her teeth?.....

  • @floweraine06 how do you move your teeth?O.o

  • She is amazing!!!! Being biracial, I totally get where she's coming from on being a constant outsider!!!!!! Too underrated!!!!!!!

  • "What is like to be American and Japanese at the same time?"

Seriously, what kind of question is that? It's like saying, "What is it like to be driving and sitting at the same time?"

It would of been better to have said, "How do you feel about your Japanese American roots?"

  • @Jinto117 The question is meant culturally. I think her answer reflects that.

  • @Jinto117 you have saggy tits Jinto117

  • @Jinto117 No i think he was just being a dick! XD

  • Comment removed

  • @Jinto117 I totally agree Jinto117, but at the same time, I'm glad to hear her say her answer because I always felt that same exact way but never knew other bicultural people felt the same. I always thought it was just me. lol It felt so good to hear some other bicultural person have that exact similar feeling. Foreign in both homelands.

  • @PianistDFelix but happy being a whole of both too ^_^

  • I absolutely love Utada Hikaru but to be honest, her hair style dosen't suit her very well.... it makes her head look like an egg... -.-

  • @keyblademickey13 She doesn't have that hair style anymore. She grew it out for her tour, then cut it for her last performance last month.

  • @Roisia I know that, I meant by the time,not know

  • It may be a mainstream sound but it is much better than a lot of the stuff that actually is mainstream, that's for sure.

  • that is the perfect hairstyle for her face!

  • I'm I the only one who finds her voice really attractive and mature?

  • @lionclaw77

    I meant Am not "I'm"

  • Hey English is fantastic, does anyone know when she starting learning?

  • she was raised in u.s thats why.

  • @briandenning1 Oh ha, that makes sense.

  • @Nat4Brendan I'm pretty sure she was raised bilingual. She said she was born in NY

  • @Sik15 Yeah, I kinda commented before I watched the whole video. xD

  • @Nat4Brendan oh, lols

  • @Nat4Brendan She was born in America so probably since being a very young child... -_-

  • I'm not a fan but she seems nice!

  • Is it just me or when she speaks (sings) english her voice sounds deeper?

  • @xxxholic9895 i think it has to do with the way they sound things in the different languages, my voice sounds bitchy and deepish in English

and REALLY feminine and nice (personality wise, idk if it sound nice or not lol) in spanish.

  • @DogLoverGSC ive noticed that when i speak in japanese theres a much lighter tone in my voice...i guess it is the way they sound it out! :p

  • @xxxholic9895 That's because many japanese people shouldn't speak english. They sound more deep when they. But if Ayumi speaks it she sounds cute. And she isn't so good at it.

  • Is she full blooded? She doesn't look it. For one, she's actually cute.

  • Utada Hikaru's Official Youtube Channel

  • @cyb3rcrush3r She was born in America?

  • @thugEg shes a new yorker born raised and studied there

  • I love it how she seems entirely geniune in her interviews. . .We don't have a lot of singers who are like that nowadays.. . :-(

  • "sitchewan food" xD cute utada

  • I made an SMV to her song This One (Crying Like a Child). The song gives me a kinda urban R&B feel. I brought her album! Yes people I brought it. I just wish she had it in some music stores. I wanted a physical CD from her. I guess next year or 2 years from now.

  • She is just sooooo cool :)

  • omg i love utada she is my favorite singer ever

  • Damn she fine!!!

  • Utada is such a cool person. Even with all of her popularity she is still a normal person. She just speaks her mind, very honest~

  • Dont say this is Ur secnd!! Dont forget your very first: Precious as Cubic U

Im the only one i count that work?

  • ggggggggaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh utada i love you!!!!

  • woah she likes sigur ros!

  • ahhhh she's so beautiful!

and her voice is so addictive. !

  • OMG!!! I love utada hikaru and Im alittle dispointed though...........I hoped her voice would be as melodic and alluring as in her songs like passion and sanctuary...........but Id still do her if I found her. OME ONE PLEASE GIVE ME THIS WOMENS ADRRESS!!!!!!! sorry bad thoughts for a 15 year old boy................he he I dont care loli complex is natural :)

  • @OnnenRyu She spent many years living in New York she picked up the accent lol it;s why her accent sounds off when she speaks in Japanese. Some words she says sound a bit strange in Japanese.

  • Aahah Family Guy FTW

  • yaaaaaaay she loves family guy <3

  • She is a genuine talent. I'm glad she's a down-to-earth person and not the "eccentric genius" type.

  • I just think she's really great, she speaks her mind in such a way that people can understand her and what she feels

  • how is she doing in states? can anyone tell me?

Hope she is doing okay in such a difficult market!

  • don't worry utada the cost of the bears suit was all necesary :P

  • she's so cute and nice singing voice. glad she's back

  • her hair looks a bit like anna wintour's! hahahah so cute!

  • Family guy! She really is part america! xD <3

  • this haircut really shows the highlights on her face and frames her face perfectly <3

  • YES!!! Utada Family Guy =D

  • What do you consider a flop? There are artists out there that sell less albums then Utada does and are still considered a success. That is the problem with the Music industry in the US now. It is more about selling a product or an image then selling the music. Maybe that's why it's going down hill. I Franky think this was a much better effort this time around. At least Utada is real and not fake like so many others out there. Breaking stereotypes takes time but will get there eventually.

  • @BlazinNSoul I TOTALLY agree with you. I cll it the Hip-hop affect because that's how they were when they did it.

  • shes SO sweet, and very cute! XD and fun

those were really interresting questions :)

    tfs~

  • ahhh utada is awesummm!!!!!i have her cd!!!

  • Looks and sounds like Lily from How I Met Your Mother lol...

  • Utadaaaaaaaa! Oh she is the best singer ever i Love Her!!!!!

  • Great singer! Keep up the great wok Utada!

  • OMG, she said family guy is her favorite!! I love that TV show too! :D I heart Utada.

  • I love this haircut on her!

  • she's so pretty in this vid

  • well...i don't think her debut and second album is flop though...what i can say is these ones both are just unique.just interesting to me.

i just think it's so hard for her to success in the US.

Having said that, she is so unique songwriter,i guess.

  • No she means fans that don't publicise the fact that they are fans, like secret fans. Maybe they aren't in fancircles etc.

  • i don't think her US debut album,Exodus was experimental.this album This is the one is...mainstream,i wonder?

tracks in this album are so week at all, right?

despite these songs were produced by Tricky Stewart and Stargate...

  • she says herself that her US debut album(Exdous) was experimental... so this album, the second american album is more mainstream "relatable and more accessible". .. but still was a flop.. Both albums didnt leave any kind of impact on the charts.. did she even go to the grammys this year?

  • @tjaysbone her album didn't do that badly, it peaked at 69 on the billboard charts. while its nowhere near as successful as her japanese stuff, it wasn't a total flop. she was even able to go on tour to a few cities. however, i do agree that the album was a little weak. it did have a few decent tracks though, i really liked Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (FYI)

  • of course its more mainstream.. she needed to sell records! EXDOUS was a flop. Experimental.. what?!! you do that after you make it in the states, not your first album. Although she has a great voice , this album was weak as well, the music was too mainstream fluffy boring

  • she's so talented, she should be very big in tops

  • I just went to her Hollywood concert and it was awesome. She is so talented. I look forward to her next West Coast tour.

  • hey all people who know about the Haiti earthquake watch this vid and help help them out: Every 100k views = $300 to Haiti

    btw Utada is awsome

  • in hawaii we have tons of japanese and it was hilarious hearing all those cute high pitched japanese woman yelling "Hikki! Hikki!"

  • ha ha, just saw her live about an hour ago in honolulu!

  • thats not fair!!!!!!!!!!! ;(

  • how i love utada

  • dang she likes family guy! and this is the first time i've heard her speak in english, besides singing her english songs, well anyway, i do agree that america doesn't know how to promote her...man, she's so talented what are they doing!?

  • america doesn't know how to promote her.

  • Her promoters don't know how to promote her. I'm sure if she teamed up with Akon or someone along those lines she would do just fine. He did it for Lady Gaga.

  • she should have been on mtv by now

  • why? mtv has stopped caring about music back in the 90's. having her on there would turn her into a celebrity for the wrong reasons.

  • she is beautiful.........sigh...........al so intelligent and has a sense of humor!!!

  • lol fAMILY GUY IS HER FAVORITE! woohoo!!! lol

  • Utada is such an interesting and mature lady! ^^ i aspire to her so much haha

  • Her birthday's January 19, 1983 (age 26),

    She's a capricorn.

  • She is:) Says it in her song ''Pop'n'' for a her new album.

  • Underground fans are fans that aren't mainstream following (following her b/c of her Japanese music, which obviously isn't mainstream in the US). This term is used with "underground music," i.e. artists not on the charts or radio. I've never used the term "closet" before, so I'm assuming she's being synonymous with both terms.

  • Comment removed

  • You're exactly right. It's like people who don't like pop music so they won't admit they like her lol. I'm somewhat a closet fan. Only some of my friends know that I like her... I wouldn't tell the others cause I'd get flamed for it.

  • i'm just glad her voice isn't high pitched and 'whiney' sounding.

  • @itznotjaye yeah, i'm glad too. It's good that she's the alto type, and when she sings high notes she doesn't even go too "dolly". Luv Utada~ >.<

  • I think she means people who wouldn't admit to listening to her.

  • she's sexy

  • Love the hair, Utada!

  • Is it just me, it did it look like she was about to cry at one point in the interview?

It might just be my eyes...

  • At what point?

  • I LOOOOVEEEE HER so much! She's such a great artist.

She inspires me and her music give me a good feeling, it just makes me happy. Wish I could ever meet her just to say thank you for making such great music and making it so REAL cuz she does it all herself, the writing, music...amazing :)

  • like..like...like...

    like..

  • Oh get over it.

  • I love her acent...

  • OMG! I really want to eat her! ^_^

  • dirty boy!
