I think the brush is definitely unhygenic. I ended up cutting off all the brush bristles so that excess foundation didn't clog up in the brush and accumulate bacteria. I reaaalllyyy wish YSL had simply packaged the foundation in a pump bottle or something similar... Awesome foundation though, in my opinion.
Well, in my case I have quite a sensitive skin and have been using perfect touch foundation for the past two years...When I bought the foundation I had the same concern as you and I was assured by the YSL lady that the bristles and the mechanism are anti-bacterial, hence would not cause any problem...Though, she did ask me to dip the brush in simple warm water+one spoon of rubbing alcohol and then squeeze...
P.S- My skin's perfectly fine..! No zits or congestion...
So for this foundation everything is great except for the foundation itself. Why is everyone using brushes with foundation these days? What happened to the good ol' fingerworks?
I'm sure the foundation is to die for, but the unnecessary brush attached whether you want it or not? Shit no! Shame on YSL, usually an intelligent brand.
ya, I think t here is a way to remove it, but I haven't yet. I totally agree with you though. It's like potted face creams- I have totally noticed a difference in my skin when i stopped using creams that came in a pot
i do love this foundation i use it with the primer it give your skin a pretty baby skin look, at first it looks flawless but after about 6 hours it dissapears - i will continue to buy it tho but i only use it now when i am going out to dinner or out shopping , seeing friends and fam - not good for an 8 hour working day cause by 4pm its off my face - but i do love it still
ya, i think this might be how I feel about it too. I'm turning into somebody who has different foundations for different needs! But ya, I'm not going to waste it on an 8 hour day, and look horrible by hour 6, but I love it for dinner, cuz it looks nice, but you are either home or in a dark environment when it starts to go south. :)
i'm using my husband's account to comment, but anyway, this is a great review. i also use the same foundations (this one and chanel pro lumiere) and agree with everything you said! i use this one mainly for travel.
Thanks! Ya, I'm trying out the MAC studio sculpt for the trip i'm on right now, and I really regret forgetting the YSL, I really miss the smell! I think I under estimated the power of a nice smell when you are feeling all smelly...
hi! ok so umm i have the same foundation...YSL and i also tried chanels vita lumiere...err quiet frankly....when i bought vita lumiere, it was awesome when i put it on..but literally after 4 hours..to the point..it just slips off my face..my face is dry..and i just gave it to my sister cz in my photos, i used to get really dark colord pics with all my flaws showing up, using chanel..but what i learned is, if you use a powder after u apply foundation, it stays on longer :) nice vid :)
ya, the powder is key, huh? I like the chanel powder- my sister swears by it. When I'm really trying to make it last I do this: primer, loose powder, foundation, loose powder, and then right before i leave the house- a layer of pressed powder. The loose powder right before foundation really seems to give it grip, but I'm not about to put that much on my skin on a regular basis.
oh lol, well i went out to buy a powder of some sort to make my foundation stick to my face for a while, i got the bobbi brown one. it's my first powder and its pressed. i really want to buy chanel now, i miss the quality, but bobbi brown is awesome too :) can you tell me what type of powder is your sister using? by the way i love the smell too, especially when i am in a rotten mood in the morning, it kind of....kiiiind of lifts me up..:) keep up the gd vids ;)
I can't remember the powder name off hand, I don't travel with it because I've broken both the powder and the mirror before, but I'll let you know when I get home
This is a nice foundation..u need so little and covers well..there is a light effect too..so glowy and radiant..u need very little so it will last a long time..
Oh, great to hear it lasts a long time. That is a concern of mine, and I couldn't find any reviews that said it. I think I am getting addicted to the smell- I love it! Thanks- and have a great day!
Actualli I meant that the tube will last a long time as I just need a tiny bit..and yeah about lasting the whole day; it does have staying power...very moisturizing too!
Ya, that's totally what I'm looking for. I try to make my foundations last a year- they usually change color after that anyways, but my goal is always a year. :) And you are so right about how little you need.
I adore you! This is such a thorough and impressive review! I watch all the makeup gurus also, saw your post in Lorraine's comment section, and followed you over to your channel. I think you're terrific. I just bought Korres Wild Rose foundation = LOVE! You might like it. I am thinking about trying Chanel based on pixiwoo's reviews. Would you do a review on it since you use it too...pretty please?
Hi! Thanks so much for your comment! That is so sweet! Sure, I'll do a review on the Chanel foundation, I'll get working on it right away. Does the Korres Wild Rose foundation smell like Roses? I love rose smelling products! I'll check it out. Thanks!

I like fingers too! But brushes are fun, and it is fun to try the different finishes. :)

MAJOR drawback would be the attached brush. Yuck.
