All reporters should have to do somthing like this to get some perspective before they write about a team, & for the guy saying that it isn't acurate, sry the dude was out by10'. As a former college catcher myself, not a whole lot changes during a game other than maybe getting an off speed pitch.you might not know forsure but you almostalways have an idea if a guy is going to run or not The batter doesnt matter on a throw to 2 you shouldnt even notice hes there its all about where the pitch is.
This goes to show you that even the worst major leaguers are still major leaguers and really, really good. When you watch the game at the professional level all the time it may start to look easy but it is not.
That's what people think; but none of his teammates (including guys like Torii Hunter, Paul Konerko, Jeff Kent and Jim Thome) have anything bad to say about him. He's that guy that you hate when you play against him, but like him when he's on your team.
I agree with dlle1st...AJ was given fastballs, knew the runner was going, had no batter in his way, etc. Either way, Joe did get one stolen base. AJ didn't pick the one pitch from the right haded pitcher. He was no 0 for 10....he was 1 for 10.
Who cares whether AJ knew? How about Cowley doesn't know how to steal a base...it's not as easy as it looks. AJ might have the slowest staff to the plate (and they do not hold runners), that's why he's so bad at catching baserunners.
All of the advantages were given to the catcher. I could have thrown him out every time if there wasn't a batter, I had a left handed pitcher, I know that hes stealing every time, and he threw fastballs. This is not an accurate demonstration.
do you honestly believe that an overweight out of shape reporter was going to do well against people who are paid to play baseball? this is their profession. cowley didnt run fast enough, A.J. just missed the ball.
Great idea, however, the experiment doesn't accurately simulate real game situations. In real games, the runner isn't expected to run at full speed for 90 feet 10X or 12Xs continuously in a row w/out rest. Joe's fatigue was expected and reduced his chances of success. Also, in real games, catchers & pitchers have other variables to distract them from the runner which wasn't present here (a batter, throwing strikes, handling pitches with movement...) If I were AJ, I wouldn't be so smug.
you cant say aj was being smug, because this guy has wrote badly about him and the writer was being a dick the whole time

He is a jerk, but a good kind of jerk. Not a Pacman Jones type of jerk.

We fans often tend to forget how truly elite the major league player is even those who "aren't very good" at this or that.

Very Funny. What in Joe' mind made him think he would have any kind of chance to be successful?
