He would run into a copyright problem if he just "posted" them for download/sale. He would need to get permission and pay royalties to the original artists in order to be "compensated" (in whatever form) for covers of songs he performs.

The better and more famous one becomes, the more one catches the scrutiny of the law and such.

Now if he wrote his own stuff, THEN he'd have fewer issues to deal with.
