And that was to take their lives. Dan White was not the most honest person either. And he could just blame stress on his career as a police officer and as a family man. And of his mental instability. The actual defense claim was that White's consumption of junk food was a symptom of untreated depression and impaired judgment (White was purported to be a fitness fanatic)

Regardless, it was sufficient to get him a minimal sentence for his crime. Outrage in the Gay Community led to the White Light Riots.

White, after serving five of seven years, committed suicide in 1985.

White's defense lawyers said that he was a health nut, and his recent penchant for junk food, among other things, was a sign of his depression. Regardless, it was a pathetic outcome and a great injustice. White should have faced a much harder sentence for the murder of two public servants.
