Jeez, I've not heard this in over 20 years!....I bought Nightfall on Vinyl around 1988(?) I think, and Well of Souls was definitely the 'stand out' track.....Marcolin's voice was incredible, operatic in quality!

Candlemass is about as metal as a fruit loop. The riffs are all right but then the vocals start and I just can't help but laugh. Doom metal?...I think it's more like opera. If you want REAL metal, look at bands like W.A.S.P., Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica before they got all wussy, Motorhead, Venom, and Hellhammer. Slayer is THE definition of brutal, bang-your-head metal. This stuff...it's rock n' roll opera. I mean, it's pleasant to listen to, but it doesn't get you into a fury like Venom.

i disagree man. although they arent as heavy or fast as any of the bands you listed (and i love all of those bands too) this is still metal. metal encompasses more than just thrash and traditionally heavy music. i think you could call this metal; in a way its an evolution of metal and i think that they have talent and ability also (i know you didnt refer to that i just wanted to point that out). and also, they do a cover of countess bathory (im sure you know thats venom)

The first W.A.S.P. is a great album, and their other albums from the 80's have some great songs too, But Candlemass are quite simply one of the greatest bands in the history of metal.

man this is great! they are not comparable to any other (doom) metal band, because they have their own style. I love personality when it comes to doom metal, because it is not easy to try and not imitate Black Sabbath and so on.

They all were pretty varied in their vocal style. But they ALL were great and brought something good to candlemass. Johan - The pioneer :), Messiah - crazy monk with vibrato, vikstrom - awesome high pitch-ness, blodvist (?) - stoned voice of doom, rob lowe - simply awesome! Most technically brilliant of them all!

I don't know man, "King of the Grey Islands" was pretty damn good! But I'm also a Solitude Aeturnus fan, so I like Rob Lowe's voice a lot too. Messiah is still the best though....Can't wait for "Death Magic Doom" to come out! I hear it's release date is April 1st!
