the ONLY song that I love the COVER ALMOST as much as i love the ORIGINAL! PETER GREEN IS GOD....but i also LOVE GLEN TIPTON and HALFORD KILLS ON THIS ALSO..... now...BLACKMAGIC WOMAN? there is only ONE VERSION OF THAT SONG...and that is PETER GREEN's...end of story.... fuck Santana and his noodling NEVER PLAY A CHORD playing..... GREEN IS GOD!
This song blew me away when it came out. It's still powerful today,of all the Brit bands at the time, Peter Green and Mac were the shit. Funny, i dig Judas Priest, but i had no idea they covered this.....and i'm not even going to listen to their version
Personally I love both versions, albeit the original slightly more. I listen to the Judas Priest version if I just want to rock the fuck out and listen to Peter Green's version when I'm looking for something depressing, yet beautiful.
@MegaMagicman89, It doesn't matter how heavy a riff is or how many octaves a singer can sing. If it doesn't sound good what is the point? Tuning down to A will give you a heavy riff but it doesn't mean it will sound good! Peter Green is an amazing guitarist and has contributed greatly to the music world! I don't know if you know but Peter Green took over form Eric Clapton in the Bluesbreakers, that takes talent!
First time I hear the original, I only knew the Judas Priest version. I love this one as much as Judas Priest's version. This one has a totally different vibe..feeling to the lyrics. Aamzing!
Mac or Preists version , dont matter its a choice of taste an musical styles .Some of you will like the originals some like covers they both stand on there own...

You know what the songs Diamonds and Rust and The Green Manalishi (With the Two Pronged Crown) have in common? They were both shitty originals that were covered by a band that actually had a talented vocalist. 4 octave range vocalist. Heavy guitar riffs. I just consider them to be original songs by Judas Priest after hearing the garbage they started out as. Joan Baez? She sounds like a blubbering neurotic. Fleetwood mac? Sound like a bunch of kids making "music" to come down from an acid freakou
@MegaMagicman89 I used to have a similar opinion to yours. But then I got older, and my music taste evolved. Now I value more in music other than heavy riffs, and high octaves.
@MegaMagicman89 Listen to Fleetwood Macs "Rattlesnake Shake" Live at the Boston Tea Party! A 26 minute masterpiece! Then tell me again the old Fleetwood Mac (with Green & Kirwan on guitars) were a bunch of kids ;) watch?v=ddrSvypVg-U
@MegaMagicman89 I feel sorry for you, you just can't see the whole picture. I am quite happy to listen to Judas Priest's version, it's great. Yeah, the vocals, and guitarwork, truly great. But, unlike you, I also enjoy, just as much or perhaps a little more, this original version. Sometimes it's not the singer, but the song. And whether you like the arrangement, or the musicians, or the singer's voice, there is a connection to the songwriter's soul when they sing it themselves. Even Joan.
@MegaMagicman89 I don't think the Priest men would agree with what you're saying. The reason they covered those classics is because they actually love those two songs. They didn't cover those 2 songs because they thought the songs were bad.
How can the 2 original guy's in the band acyually name the band, but never write anything? All they ever do is have people join who are songwriters. Have they ever wanted to write some of their own songs?
I like the judas priest version from unleashed in the east more then this one because rob halford is one of the greatest singers ever and I love the twin guitar from k.k downing and Glenn Tipton
@MrBazza86 priest is my fab band but i have to agree whit you this soun so fuking evil and dark but priest has more of a power felling i like both but this one is the grand daddy of theme all
@fenderbender999 Completely agree - there's something very dark about this song like no other song I've heard before. JP version is good but doesn't retain that sinister quality.
@fenderbender999 I also agree. While JP's version is a kickass rendition, I find myself listening to this more often because of the underlying sinister tone.
The primary reason I like the Priest version more (well the Unleashed In The East version anyway) is because of the high note Halford hits at the end, that's pretty damn awesome if you ask me
If Green held it together, Zeppelin would be in Mac's shadow. The anchor in the blues, the adding of folk and world elements, Mac had it all there with Page and Co. But the Green Manalishi just wouldn't allow it.
-compares Judas Priest Cover to Original- Sorry Judas Priest made it better. It's faster, less depressing than song is, the guitar and drums sounds better and the ending sounded so epic. I like how he made the song for Judas Priest to improve it.
I don't know what liking or disliking metal has to do with liking or disliking this song. this is one of the all time best rock songs ever.I don't discount Priest's version, but this is clearly better. Without it, there would be no Priest version. Peter Green is far superior and versatile player than many of his peers of the 60's/70's and so called "guitar gods". Has a lot of heart that's audible in his writing.
I didn't remember this song sounding so spooky, but hearing it again after all these years makes me think it would make a great Halloween song....oooohhhh!!
Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac. Forever better than the Mac we know now adays. The original british blues and soul band. Long live the green monster we know as Peter !
Has anyone heard the Melvins version. It goes perfect with their ridiculous slow sludgey kinda sound. This is my first time hearing the original. Sounds pretty good.
@3Dtacos I love the Priest version from Unleashed in the East, Live in Japan album. Probably their best live effort but the original will always be the classic...
@JonnyRake Before Stevie's time, but Christine had been playing on their sessions for a couple of years at this point, though she wouldn't be an official member for a while.

@pm966 open your mind, the priest version is awesome as well as this, youre just missing out by refusing to listen. if you dont like it, thats fine, but refusing to listen is simply ignorant
Peter Greens fleetwood Mac out sold the beatles and the rolling stones back in the day. Peter Greens trip robbed us of an amazing band. Although I love Stevie Nicks and the newer fleetwood mac stuff, Peter Greens era for me will forever be the best.
@Gyphia haha i don't know any music theory. the music of both of these bands was more blues based to begin with, and then they moved away from that. iyou know what i meant don't twist my words on youtube comments :p
I grew up knowing the Judas Priest version and for a long time, I didn't know that it was a cover song. When I finally heard this original version, all the pieces fit together. I really like the erie and dark feeling of this song. I still like the Priest one better though but this is defintiely very cool.
@rundle19938 There is nothing really at all Similar to this, but you'd probably like "Jumping At Shadows", from the same era, which says it all, much like "Man Of the World".And yes I did call Priest Glamrock, based on a video of them attempting this song, Very Badly, And posted it on that video about 2 months ago. And got slagged off for it too. I managed to miss Priest (luckily) and most groups of that era as I already had the real thing - this - and about 30 years of back-digging to be done.
@BOKNOWSCOMPUTERS well it's not quite Fleetwood Mac as we know them today, is it!. Peter actually started the band and suggested the name as he knew he would leave it one day, and he wanted them to have something to carry forward with. I grew up on this song and personally, I found the Priest version an Insult to a Great song and writer, they cut all the difficult corners off it, and just leapt around on stage like the Glamrock poster boys they were, about 30 years earlier!. Frightful!.
@Tornfreedom judas was was never glam. they were blues rock (similar to black sabbath or blue cheer) prior to adopting the heavy metal sound and leather outfits. if you need confirmation of this check out their performance of a couple of songs off of rocka rolla on the old grey whistle test.
Was Peter Green insane in wanting to help starving people in Africa.? Sounds like healthy "Sanity" to me. The problem was it did not fit into "conventional" BS & the band rejected the ideal & latter became a bunch of Coke head egotist multi-millionaires.
He wrote this last song which explains it all for me.
GREEN =Money/green dollars.. MANALISHI = Marahreshie (the cult Guru the Beatles were exploring at the time) = THE CULT OF MONEY
Peters mind was fucked up by drugs given him in hospital
Wow, Schenker totally stole that riff for Desert Song on Assault Attack. I never knew Priest covered this from Peter Green Fleetwood Mac era! wow. Here it is over 30 years and I'm learning this from youtube. Amazing.
When I think Fleetwood Mac, I just think - Stevie Nicks and the crew during the Romours period. I always heard the name Peter Green and people saying he was great, but I never heard his work. Now, I see what people are talking about when they say how important early Fleetwood Mac is.
this song along with "oh well, black magic woman, and albatross", are Mac classics! smoked alot of grass and hash listening to these in the late 60s early 70s.
@UKLegendUK enjoy........but give it a rest once in awhile too......I was 16 when I started as I recall. yes indeed good music is still good music no matter how much time has past. another british blues band I listened to alot back then(and still do),was savoy brown.exspecially the first few albums.
@TheBabyboomkidof53 They're pretty cool :) But yeah; I do haha, I'm responsible enough anyway, just hope I don't fall over myself if you know what I mean? :)
@UKLegendUK the "weed" should be legal all over the world I think, but that doesen't mean I should be stoned most of the time. I enjoyed it at a concert or rock festival or a party.but if I'm sitting around watching television and being listless all the time it's a waste of living.....I gald you enjoy the groups from "hippie days". the brits and yanks were tuned into the same sounds back then. it did'nt matter what country you were from only that you were "tuned in and turned on".we had fun.

AWESOME GUITAR SOUND EXPOUDED BY ONE OF THE GREATEST GUITARIST WE EVER KNOW. .SOUND SO FABULOUS ARTER ALL THESE YEARS .MAKE MY HAIRS STAND ON END.PETER. WHAT A NATINAL TREASURE.
I first heard the Judas priest version of this song and loved it. I am a die hard priest fan and I think they do an awesome cover of this song. However I found this (the original) on here and I have to say that it is awesome. I love how atmospheric and eerie it is, something I think gets lost in the priest version.
hey what are these top 40 old bastards covering a Judas Priest song for? and how did they do it before Judas priest even existed? kinda slow.... but i love it ! fuck JP!!!! ha ha
@BeAsT42ish Dude i am a Megadeth ,Anthrax.Maiden,Priest,Scorps,Ynwie,Sabbath MOST of all. But The Early Mac was down and dirty! and Green was a KILLER bluesman!
@BeAsT42ish There wouldn't be a Judas Priest version without this. In fact, a lot of shit you enjoy probably wouldn't exist without Mr. Green and Fleetwood Mac. Respect your elders, especially when they're among the most influential musicians ever.
When dancing with the devil… at first you lead, as time goes on he begins to take over the dance, controlling your every move…. You try to break away but his hooks are already in very deep…. Some will cry out to God … Others will have their throat slit by the dancer.. your choice?
i am a huge priest fan, but fleetfood mac''s version is more grim and dark and transelates the intention of the song better. But the priest version kicks butt 2! Seen them last week in holland and that song always brings something unique the way priest brings it!!
don't blame the drugs..... blame the system, he did drugs felt a strong connect to life, got off the drugs & felt disconnected to society. why because in society no one truely gives a fuck dog eat dog. can't blame him for trying to escape reality... but the music was heavenly....

Judas Priest is one of the most influencing metal band out there! Of course not everyone likes them, but you could at least some respect.

Nothing like the original! very scary song.. if you listion really hard you can hear two voices singing, the second is very low and flat sounding.

I grew up knowing the Judas Priest version and for a long time, I didn't know that it was a cover song. When I finally heard this original version, all the pieces fit together. I really like the erie and dark feeling of this song. I still like the Priest one better though but this is defintiely very cool.

anyone know any other Fleetwood Mac songs similar to this?
rundle19938 6 months ago
@rundle19938 There is nothing really at all Similar to this, but you'd probably like "Jumping At Shadows", from the same era, which says it all, much like "Man Of the World".And yes I did call Priest Glamrock, based on a video of them attempting this song, Very Badly, And posted it on that video about 2 months ago. And got slagged off for it too. I managed to miss Priest (luckily) and most groups of that era as I already had the real thing - this - and about 30 years of back-digging to be done.
Tornfreedom 5 months ago
@rundle19938 "Oh Well" and "Rattlesnake Shake" are two more exquisitly good Fleetwood Mac cuts with a sound similar to this.

who would have thought that a song originally written by fleetwood mac would be 10x darker than the judas priest cover lol
BOKNOWSCOMPUTERS 6 months ago 2
@BOKNOWSCOMPUTERS well it's not quite Fleetwood Mac as we know them today, is it!. Peter actually started the band and suggested the name as he knew he would leave it one day, and he wanted them to have something to carry forward with. I grew up on this song and personally, I found the Priest version an Insult to a Great song and writer, they cut all the difficult corners off it, and just leapt around on stage like the Glamrock poster boys they were, about 30 years earlier!. Frightful!.
Tornfreedom 6 months ago
@Tornfreedom judas was was never glam. they were blues rock (similar to black sabbath or blue cheer) prior to adopting the heavy metal sound and leather outfits. if you need confirmation of this check out their performance of a couple of songs off of rocka rolla on the old grey whistle test.

Peter Green...One of the few "Rock Legends" who never sold out his "soul" for money & fame.
Kristopful 6 months ago
Was Peter Green insane in wanting to help starving people in Africa.? Sounds like healthy "Sanity" to me. The problem was it did not fit into "conventional" BS & the band rejected the ideal & latter became a bunch of Coke head egotist multi-millionaires.
He wrote this last song which explains it all for me.
GREEN =Money/green dollars.. MANALISHI = Marahreshie (the cult Guru the Beatles were exploring at the time) = THE CULT OF MONEY
Peters mind was fucked up by drugs given him in hospital

Love this song.

Wow, Schenker totally stole that riff for Desert Song on Assault Attack. I never knew Priest covered this from Peter Green Fleetwood Mac era! wow. Here it is over 30 years and I'm learning this from youtube. Amazing.

Has anybody ever heard the Judas Priest cover of this song? it's completely different but it's really good, specially live.
MoonOvIce 6 months ago 2
@MoonOvIce I heard that version first (and I do prefer it, but I'm a metalhead for the most part) but when I heard this I was blown away!

Too right Slimjimm8 - THE Fleetwood Mac was the Peter Green years only.
MrBazza86 6 months ago
When I think Fleetwood Mac, I just think - Stevie Nicks and the crew during the Romours period. I always heard the name Peter Green and people saying he was great, but I never heard his work. Now, I see what people are talking about when they say how important early Fleetwood Mac is.

this song along with "oh well, black magic woman, and albatross", are Mac classics! smoked alot of grass and hash listening to these in the late 60s early 70s.

I first heard the Judas priest version of this song and loved it. I am a die hard priest fan and I think they do an awesome cover of this song. However I found this (the original) on here and I have to say that it is awesome. I love how atmospheric and eerie it is, something I think gets lost in the priest version.

@BeAsT42ish Dude i am a Megadeth ,Anthrax.Maiden,Priest,Scorps,Ynwie,Sabbath MOST of all. But The Early Mac was down and dirty! and Green was a KILLER bluesman!
TheZayne34 8 months ago 3

Horns up for mac and priest!!

don't blame the drugs..... blame the system, he did drugs felt a strong connect to life, got off the drugs & felt disconnected to society. why because in society no one truely gives a fuck dog eat dog. can't blame him for trying to escape reality... but the music was heavenly....
