  • We sell closed captioning software that will enable people to do their own closed captioning. It works for YouTube videos and it also works for DVDs. We have used it extensively for several TV shows that we do.

  • uky shin channels?!?

  • "Video captions and subtitles are essential for people who are DEATH or hearing impaired"

-Machine generated captions on this video

  • @zoebiflap

    same here

  • how ironic, all of these captures work

  • There is no way to search the text (should put markers on the scrub gadget).

There is also no way to download the text to manually search it.

  • this doesn't tell me how to put machine-generated captions on my videos

HELP I WANT TO PUT MACHINE-GENERATED CAPTIONS ON MY VIDEOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "%uh included in every device will be a salmon that gives your unlimited treaty got a"

  • when the program will pop up?

I watch youtube videos no CC

  • The Automatic Captions are really great.

  • bad captions aren't always better than no captions.

sometimes it translates words like "shaving" into "start shooting."

  • Can you get an automated html transcript, edit it and then upload the correct transcript for time coding and replacement of the automated transcript? That would help...easier to edit than start from a blank page.

  • It's funny how he is speaking slowly and fully pronouncing words, so that the captions are correct. Haha

  • thanks for the information

  • WHERE IS MY SALMON?

  • Testing comments.

  • Only one other downside you have to fix: "Machine Transcription (Failed)"

You can at least add a retry button, but having failed show up with no other way to retry is just annoying! >: (

  • Good afternoon, youtube!

I want to explain to you ... How does video features for Stock legend: Transcribe audio, subtitles translate, other configurations and Section Subtitle: English, Portuguese? Marcelo could not put the actions of legend.

    Why transcription by machine (failed)?

Thank you (a); marcelostui (hearing impaired and could talk)

    Help me?

    Made in Brazil

  • transcriptin my uploads always failed

  • lol i put da captions on this vid

  • Check out the YouTube channel "videocritter" for a free nonprofit web-based caption editor that will allow you to edit YouTube's machine-transcribed caption files

  • Hey Google want some epic with that FAIL?

  • Comment removed

  • A guy was talking about some new DVD's he got home and subtitles told about iraq and hussein??? This is really bad!!!

  • Here is a website for doing YouTube captioning the old fashioned way in a WYSIWYG free nonprofit web tool..People tend to be a bit more accurate than 2010 machine transcription technology.

  • 'But sometimes they are better then nothing'.

Dammit Google. Are you like that fucking lazy? I'd be pissed if I was deaf.

  • but nothing is better than it :D .. :)

Immanuel Kant becomes immune to bankrupt. John Stuart Mill becomes John starts a mill. :D

Let's me add some.. and the caption is let's my ass some ;)

  • Why can't we edit automatic captioning to correct it? some of them are very inaccurate.

  • Comment removed

  • Pure laziness to to use the captions. It is so easy!

  • at MrHumerousify

Stop your bitching no one likes you....

  • GOOGLE YOU FUCKIN FAIL IN CAPTIONS!..and the truth is a joke doing this unless you want katt williams, adam sandler typo shit!!

  • chicagogardener, whoa, whoa, let's not start suing everyone.

  • Comment removed

  • Lol, they admit its broken as hell, "better than nothing", I'd have an easier time reading lips than deciphering these captions.

  • The captioning video has no captions! How about some text to help us figure out how to sue this thing?

  • U FAIL CUZ U USE MAC HAHAHAHAH!!!!

  • Utter fail . it can`t even generate normal subtitles for this video

  • So instead of eliminating the 500 char comment limit, implementing a tree structure for comments so that holding a conversation is possible, making it easy to jump directly from my mailbox to a response to a comment, or some other feature that'd actually be useful we get thousands of manhours being poured into a feature that doesn't work for shit.

  • Hey YouTube; shouldn't you get a feature to work at least somewhat decently before putting it out there for everyone to use? (You know, like how you pushed this new broken layout onto us with the broken chars remaining field?) Google's voice recognition software is garbage. I know because I use their free 411 service because it's free. It has not gotten more reliable over the years.

  • lol this guy is speaking clearly and it cant even make out what hes saying...just pathetic :/

  • ahahahah "still better than nothing"

  • @reallynaked more than something...

    LESS THAN SOMETHING!!!

(youll have to watch college humors vid to understand..)

  • Never mind i got them on

    and its gay!

  • Lol this videos CC option is disabled

    "i wonder why"...

  • This is awesome. I work in a deaf community and can definitely appreciate this.

  • I love how if you enable these automatic captions on this video, it fails

  • funciona , muy bien 10

  • all channels have them now

  • It's a shame that the Audio Transcribe is hearing-impaired itself.

  • LMAO too true. Imagine what some hearing impaired people might be reading. x__x

  • Absolute gibberish :)

  • how do u do it

  • sham WOW!!!

  • the papa bear at the end is a crack head xD straight dope.

  • When will these features be available for other languages?

  • Auto-generated captioning is not very accurate :( Maybe 20% was right and the rest looked like nonsensical gibberish.

  • the captions is just fine.. you just have to speak very clearly so it understands your words :P

  • The Macedonian video translation sucks

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • Actually no, it shouldn't - don't be an ass and annoy everybody who can't hear or understand whats being said.

If people had to turn on on manually all would be too self centered to do it.

  • I tried to download this video and show it to a group of deaf people, but the captioning didn't come with the video. Is there any way to do this?

  • Google always amazes me.

  • Great feature for me to learn spanish =)

  • the automatic caption dosen't work for all channels :-(

  • 1:25 Look in top-right cornor, 42791 Unread Messeges :D

  • all of them probably hate mail

  • @2000pcman good eye

  • cool...the translator works fine^^ i like this update...now i can watch spanish movies:D

  • brix were shat.

  • Parabens e obrigado por nos proporcionar mais essa ferramenta. Agora podemos entender todos os videos independente do pais ou lingua em que foi produzido.

Continuem a buscar a universialização do conhecimento!

    Obrigado!

  • wow!

  • Great job .. !

  • please youtube make it faster....i really anxious...

1 more thing...can we download the video with the subtitle in video...thanks google n youtube

  • they are also useful for quickly banning stuff with wrong words in it.

The worlds dictatorships will bennifit from this.

Also, this way, google can READ your vids, so it can ban them quickly (they probably have every video "auto captioned" already, and only allow you to choose to show it to other people or not).

  • "At Google we believe video should be accessible to everyone" ... except people in China.

  • Really awesome. It's so easy I'm sure almost all video creators will have this up and running.

  • we need to ==== BRING ON THE WALL

  • if i was deaf i wouldn't give a shit about youtube.

  • Quoting the video: "But if youre hearing impaired, or dont speak the language, theyre still better than nothing."

As a "hearing impaired" person (fyi, the PC term is hard-of-hearing) I'm here to say... screw you! haha It is not better than nothing, jeez so happy you could make that accommodation for me.

I'm a HUGE Google advocate and Beta tester for many of your programs over the years (including GV).

Your Speech-to-Text algorithms blow & no noticeable changes have been made as of late.

  • Yours videos are very interesting ! Great job !

  • Technology is awesome.

  • This is only good for english speaking people who are deaf .... the translations are weak, and even some of the English subtitles sux ....

  • I found some of these transcribed words on this video funny.

"and you too" is supposed to be "in YouTube", "Sunday education channels" is supposed to be "some education channels", "video upwards" is supposed to be "video uploads",

  • If everyone used closed captions... Deaf people, people that are hard of hearing, as well as people trying to learn English as a second language could benefit. So glad YouTube has this feature... I must learn to use it.

  • Great !

  • 42791 messages lol

  • Hey Nazi tube, you forgot to announce the shit that makes you have to enter a capcha if you spell something wrong.

Fuck you I'll spell however I want.

  • Good point.

  • warmhearted girl who is searching for a man who would be able to satisfy my needs

  • Go google! we want automatic comments translation too !

  • Automatic Timing is freaking EPIC!!!! Now just for Google to release a program so we can do Automatic Timing offline.

  • Google has translated Dutch very well, but terms like automatic-timing are translated literally.

  • Translation to Finnish sucks ASS. :)

Google should fix it. Finnish is very hard to translate for google's machine...

  • Some words about this demo:

Most software(and hardware) dvd/digital video has one little problem in the text positioning: the subtitles is always centerized, instead of left aligning. Left aligning of subtitles helps me. because i'm a visually impaired.

Arguments: This is awesome innovation. and will be way to the accessible future.

    P.S.

Made the aligment possible to the left that both(all) lines of text begins the same position of left and vertically same position.

  • I tried the caption translation to finnish and it sucked...

  • The demonstrators said in the video that: "Translation to other languages wil be better than nothing"

  • @Saukko80 Well i wouldnt say so... in translation to finnish like every tenth word is right.

  • 2.25 is it viacom slash accesibility

2.15 you can all sit down, load your time for the caption file to modify or you somewhere else

    transcribed captions are funny :D

  • this is the kind of genius technology that makes google great.

Check out google's "image swirl" on google labs, for more technological innovation!

  • This could let YouTube provide in-picture links as a video plays to videos relevant to the video's subject.

you could do a search based only on speech within a video!

Give it ten years or so for the auto-captioning and translation algorithms to be perfected and google have got the worlds only truly universal entertainment medium.

youtube might not make a direct profit, but what google will make leasing use of this technology in ten years time will make up for it!

    Google, you are awesome.

  • I love Google

  • haha....this video does have a good french translation...it'll help me learn the language...this rox!!/....go youtube!go google!!

  • This is really great stuff for people with disabilities ! Very well done!! Youtube Rocks, Google Rocks! Everything from this company is SUPER magnificent!

  • awesome!

  • чётко

  • %uh included in every device will be a salmon

  • Youtube is the best ! every day better !

  • hahaha big brother is really watching you now! hahahah! it can be used for the good for hearing impaired, burt obviously this can be used more sinisterly for the cia and the advertising agencies that will advertise right up to our front doors now lol.

  • amazing!, but Google is not recognizing yourself!. When you say Google, transcribe "goal" =)

  • slovenian subtitles are great, few words mistaken, but im impresed.

cant wait to use this on other video.

  • Portuguese translation is not good, but it can help anyone who does not know nothing about the English language. So, 4 stars. The 5th star will follow after "near future", as said by Google narration.

  • Wow, the YouTube channel has over 41000 messages? Hmm...this shows that they don't read our complaints or positive feedback.

  • جميل جداأ

  • sweet! now only if youtube and make it so the text isn't covering up my video then I'll be happy.

  • Very impressive. I knew this technology would turn up someday. Though for video without spoken audio and video photo slide shows there is still room for us Captioners.

  • رائع وخطوة ممتازة

  • that is great. the caption has been translated in italian perfectly!

  • that guy, he sounds like Cleveland in Family Guy !

  • lol i tried the transcribe and at 0:58 instead of saying auto captions "aren't great" it said "are great"

  • wow thats amaizing!

  • thankyou youtube ....i'm very happy with this automatic translate...work out

    i can watch thai video

  • FUCK youtube. Now all the work I was supposed to do and that would be exclusive is now public and acessible to everyone

  • I agree i got money for making subtitles and captions for videos... Now what should i do? >:(

  • Well, you can edit spelling, grammar, sound effects, speaker identification, and etc. Hey, this is not perfect yet as it don't have only more than 95% right now.

  • well u should be happier, if u think about it...

would u rather do work because u luv it or becuz u wanted money/ fame out of it?

    they're just making life easier.

think about the strong guy: by ur logic, he hates the hammer because strength is now "public and accessible to everyone"

  • sorry , I'm not familiar with american moral tips. And no, I'm not expecting fame, but a video posted with subtitles that I made on my computer with 10 times more hard work feels much better than an automatic "voice-to-text translation".

But then I guess that because I'm not happy, doesn't mean that thousands of youtubers won't be excited with it. YOUTUBE ROCKS

  • I've had one video being processed for several hours and still no captions. This is fairly shoddy technology if it can't differentiate between "sample" and "salmon." My 6-year-old cellphone can pick up my voice from across the room and this was a university professor speaking abundantly clear.

  • Kudos to Google and Youtube for providing beta audio transcribed captions for the video. I hopefully that will be huge step for our work with my stepmother to add sound effects, music, speaker identifications, music, lyrics, and italtic when volume or something would be sensitive volume. It is great for the deaf and hard-of-hearing. If that success, I will take to work together with my family to captioning it for my own private video! :)

  • what if the host of the vid is lazy? is there an html ending we can add, like the &fmt=18 for HD?

  • No. :\

  • Wow, that really is amazing. I look forward to when the audio transcription works for other languages - then the translation feature could come in really handy for me.

  • lol "They are still better than nothing"

Way to really sell the product guys.

  • Congrats Ken and team!

  • :O that's awesome

  • What a great feature!

Is it possible to make non-standard English characters like é appear properly in the CC

When you add captioning, it would be great if it automatically tagged the video with the: yt:cc=on

And some sort of marker in the My Video pane that show which vids I have supplied caption with would be helpful.

    Thanks.

    --- Katie

  • ROFL, when i use the transcribe feature on THIS video, i get "automatic captions are currently avalible on most sunday channels..." on 0:17

    good luck fixing that lol

  • Haha they fixed it :P

  • Well this is going to need alot of developing, but good job.I tought it would take alot longer to get started or make a beta.

  • really helpful! thanks Google

  • 굿 굿 굿

  • I tried it in this video.

"all you need is a simple tax transcript, no time cuts required and google the rest."

    FAIL.

Just joking, of course I know this is just an experimental feature and it's still a step towards the future ;)

  • nice!!

  • Finally you're getting stuff right.

  • such a cool tol cant wait to try speech to text for my interview series will make everything a lot easier :D thx

  • great , it will surely helpful for deaf .

  • Google changes the world.

  • Уау! Круто!

  • I just wanna point out that in the video he says "Today, we're announcing two new features in YouTube", and the captions say the same. But when I click Transcribe Audio, it says "Today we're announcing to new features and you too". Doesn't anyone think this could give people with bad hearing the wrong idea about what people are saying? And why am I the only person that noticed this? Something wrong with my computer maybe?

  • @OxideTheShadow: You are right, so people with bad hearing can either try to lip-read what is being said (sometimes impossible with narratives) or they can read the slightly imperfect auto transcribing by Google and make an educated guess about the meaning.

Think about it. When we search for something on the net, many links are unrelated to what we want, but the imperfect search results allow most people to find what they want in a few page searches. Likewise, the Transcribing feature.

  • huh, well I can't argue when you say it like that. Fine, I agree 100%

  • As a deaf person myself I think this is awesome that they are even working on this. You're right that it does and will make a lot of mistakes. But the same it true for most closed captioning. It happens all the time on TV too. but this Auto captioning is a huge step forward for us. It's common for captions to be off and we just have to figure what its suppose to say. But I'm sure it'll improve in time and I'm glad it's in the making.

  • Definitely nice to see Google bringing this aspect to video capability. There are free programs elsewhere (like babelfish. yahoo. com) that have been around for quite a while now. It *attempts* to translate between languages, but at best is somewhere near 85% accurate (est). I guess not unlike some comments posted here by people that don't have english as a mother tongue. Still, this is an encouraging step to close the loop on accessibility issues.

  • Nothing wrong with your computer, the transcribe function isn't perfect. But it still gives someone an IDEA of what is being said. That's the whole point!

I'm Swedish, but when i listen to Germans speak, i get an IDEA of what they are saying, because I can recognize some words. I don't get the full picture, but enough to understand what the conversation is about. And THAT is the idea here.

  • google owns

  • cool!

  • Google deserves the success it has.

  • How about just worrying about being able to serve your content at streaming speeds? Captions don't matter when it take 15 minutes to 'stream' a 3 minute video.

  • the heck it doesn't matter. How about those who are deaf/hard of hearing? they need captions!

  • great add google!

  • NERNNN NUNNNN NAHHH NUNNNN NERRRRRR

  • Google ownzzzz

  • cool.... and it's NOT FAKE because it's from the real Google channel...

  • This is awesome and works really well! I only had to tweak the timings a few times out of about 16 minutes of audio in my videos.

  • Sweet!!!!!!!!!!

  • Really good :) , thanks for the new feature . It will also be really cool if the comments could be automatically translated to a language that i like. I my case i not really good at english but i understand perfectly , if we have a automatic translate i will be a lot simple to get inside in a discussion with people that talk in different language.

Is just crossing apps that google havDemoe right now ;)

    Bye and thanks again !

  • This is a breakthrough in communication. We are now going to be able to vlog to other nations.

  • yay

  • no this is SO FAKE

  • this will be great for illegal japanese anime fansubbers

  • Thats nice. I actually had a thought about this a long time ago lol.
