Hey YouTube; shouldn't you get a feature to work at least somewhat decently before putting it out there for everyone to use? they are also useful for quickly banning stuff with wrong words in it.

Also, this way, google can READ your vids, so it can ban them quickly (they probably have every video "auto captioned" already, and only allow you to choose to show it to other people or not).

I found some of these transcribed words on this video funny.
"and you too" is supposed to be "in YouTube", "Sunday education channels" is supposed to be "some education channels", "video upwards" is supposed to be "video uploads",
If everyone used closed captions... Deaf people, people that are hard of hearing, as well as people trying to learn English as a second language could benefit. So glad YouTube has this feature... I must learn to use it.
Most software(and hardware) dvd/digital video has one little problem in the text positioning: the subtitles is always centerized, instead of left aligning. Left aligning of subtitles helps me. because i'm a visually impaired.
Arguments: This is awesome innovation. and will be way to the accessible future.
P.S.
Made the aligment possible to the left that both(all) lines of text begins the same position of left and vertically same position.
This could let YouTube provide in-picture links as a video plays to videos relevant to the video's subject.
you could do a search based only on speech within a video!
Give it ten years or so for the auto-captioning and translation algorithms to be perfected and google have got the worlds only truly universal entertainment medium.
youtube might not make a direct profit, but what google will make leasing use of this technology in ten years time will make up for it!
This is really great stuff for people with disabilities ! Very well done!! Youtube Rocks, Google Rocks! Everything from this company is SUPER magnificent!

Portuguese translation is not good, but it can help anyone who does not know nothing about the English language. So, 4 stars. The 5th star will follow after "near future", as said by Google narration.
Very impressive. I knew this technology would turn up someday. Though for video without spoken audio and video photo slide shows there is still room for us Captioners.
hahaha big brother is really watching you now! hahahah! it can be used for the good for hearing impaired, burt obviously this can be used more sinisterly for the cia and the advertising agencies that will advertise right up to our front doors now lol.
Well, you can edit spelling, grammar, sound effects, speaker identification, and etc. Hey, this is not perfect yet as it don't have only more than 95% right now.
sorry , I'm not familiar with american moral tips. And no, I'm not expecting fame, but a video posted with subtitles that I made on my computer with 10 times more hard work feels much better than an automatic "voice-to-text translation".
But then I guess that because I'm not happy, doesn't mean that thousands of youtubers won't be excited with it. YOUTUBE ROCKS
I've had one video being processed for several hours and still no captions. This is fairly shoddy technology if it can't differentiate between "sample" and "salmon." My 6-year-old cellphone can pick up my voice from across the room and this was a university professor speaking abundantly clear.
Kudos to Google and Youtube for providing beta audio transcribed captions for the video. I hopefully that will be huge step for our work with my stepmother to add sound effects, music, speaker identifications, music, lyrics, and italtic when volume or something would be sensitive volume. It is great for the deaf and hard-of-hearing. If that success, I will take to work together with my family to captioning it for my own private video! :)
Wow, that really is amazing. I look forward to when the audio transcription works for other languages - then the translation feature could come in really handy for me.
I just wanna point out that in the video he says "Today, we're announcing two new features in YouTube", and the captions say the same. But when I click Transcribe Audio, it says "Today we're announcing to new features and you too". Doesn't anyone think this could give people with bad hearing the wrong idea about what people are saying? And why am I the only person that noticed this? Something wrong with my computer maybe?
@OxideTheShadow: You are right, so people with bad hearing can either try to lip-read what is being said (sometimes impossible with narratives) or they can read the slightly imperfect auto transcribing by Google and make an educated guess about the meaning.
Think about it. When we search for something on the net, many links are unrelated to what we want, but the imperfect search results allow most people to find what they want in a few page searches. Likewise, the Transcribing feature.
As a deaf person myself I think this is awesome that they are even working on this. You're right that it does and will make a lot of mistakes. But the same it true for most closed captioning. It happens all the time on TV too. but this Auto captioning is a huge step forward for us. It's common for captions to be off and we just have to figure what its suppose to say. But I'm sure it'll improve in time and I'm glad it's in the making.
Definitely nice to see Google bringing this aspect to video capability. There are free programs elsewhere (like babelfish. yahoo. com) that have been around for quite a while now. It *attempts* to translate between languages, but at best is somewhere near 85% accurate (est). I guess not unlike some comments posted here by people that don't have english as a mother tongue. Still, this is an encouraging step to close the loop on accessibility issues.
Nothing wrong with your computer, the transcribe function isn't perfect. But it still gives someone an IDEA of what is being said. That's the whole point!
I'm Swedish, but when i listen to Germans speak, i get an IDEA of what they are saying, because I can recognize some words. I don't get the full picture, but enough to understand what the conversation is about. And THAT is the idea here.
How about just worrying about being able to serve your content at streaming speeds? Captions don't matter when it take 15 minutes to 'stream' a 3 minute video.
Really good :) , thanks for the new feature . It will also be really cool if the comments could be automatically translated to a language that i like. I my case i not really good at english but i understand perfectly , if we have a automatic translate i will be a lot simple to get inside in a discussion with people that talk in different language.
Is just crossing apps that google havDemoe right now ;)

@OxideTheShadow: You are right, so people with bad hearing can either try to lip-read what is being said (sometimes impossible with narratives) or they can read the slightly imperfect auto transcribing by Google and make an educated guess about the meaning.
Think about it. When we search for something on the net, many links are unrelated to what we want, but the imperfect search results allow most people to find what they want in a few page searches. Likewise, the Transcribing feature.

huh, well I can't argue when you say it like that. Fine, I agree 100%

Captions don't matter when it take 15 minutes to 'stream' a 3 minute video.

the heck it doesn't matter. How about those who are deaf/hard of hearing? they need captions!

This is awesome and works really well! I only had to tweak the timings a few times out of about 16 minutes of audio in my videos.

Really good :) , thanks for the new feature . It will also be really cool if the comments could be automatically translated to a language that i like. I my case i not really good at english but i understand perfectly , if we have a automatic translate i will be a lot simple to get inside in a discussion with people that talk in different language.
Is just crossing apps that google havDemoe right now ;)
Bye and thanks again !
