Great version of this masterpiece. I enjoyed it immensely. Some versions rush the ending a bit too much for my taste. Gergiev had it right here. Shostakovich had the string section play the first letter in the alphabet, "A" over and over and over at the coda as if to say to the Soviet Stalinists..."There. Is that simple enough for you? Can you understand THIS?" He was almost mocking them and yet at the same time he turns it into compelling magic. What a genius he was.
