Cool how you can her the turbocharger from 0:54-1:03. You can see the engineer at 1:36 as he walks away from 1982. Looks like he's tired and is ready for a well earned break.
Being a MO-PAC nut i think this was the best heritage unit (the SP one is a close 2nd), but something that's always bugged me is the light blue. MP never used that color. It should be a light gray to match how MP Lines diesels were painted until the 1960's.
The MoP isn't completely gone yet. I still see a lot of cars in full MP schemes on UP trains, and there's 2 diesels and 2 steamers preserved also, along with dozens of cabooses and depots.
I grew up with the Texas & Pacific that went right by our house and since Mo-Pac owned most of the stock in the T&P they merged into Mo-Pac. Both railroads had the same color schemes but the T&P diamonds were replaced by the buzzsaw on the equipment. They interchanged passenger cars and both had through cars on most routes. I miss seeing that blue today.
I am thinking of custom painting my own U.P. hiritage units in n scale. Like SP's williamette Pacifics scheme, and W.P's black and yellow feather scheme. Something different, and unique.
RIP MOPAC. I don't like how UP parades all their conquests like that. Heritages are ok and MOPAC is by far the best looking one. Next thing you know you are going to see a NS heritage lol
@GP9railfan "Heritage units are so cool . . . . " Doesn't UP only produce heritage trains so as to not lose the rights to the fallen flag's rail name? If a trademark goes unused for so many years, then a buyer like UP can lose rights to it. Same reason why airlines make a "heritage" PSA jet or AirCal jet airliner. Just to keep the naming rights in their posession. It's not some charity from corporate hearts.
It would be nice if Norfolk Southern would do some heritage units like the Union Pacific did. Would be nice to see some good ole southern green & southern black and gold comming down the line.
It's a commonly-used acronym for the Missouri Pacific railroad. Get it, Mo-Pac? It was merged into the Union Pacific in 1982, hence the heritage unit's road number of UP1982.
I do miss the Mopac and seeing those TOFC trains coming thru the south side of Chicago at 95th street sometimes

I wonder if the engineers enjoy driving a unit with a special paint scheme, or if it's just another run to them??

Some of them are railfans, or at least "closet railfans". Others see them as just a fucking engine.
