That is so fucking amazing.. IBM made some of the most revolutionary laptops. The Thinkpads were the first laptops to incorporate PCMCIA slots, CD Drives, and illuminated keyboards. They were also the first to support projection display, by literally removing the back of the LCD screen.
I have two of these. They're 486, 75 Mhz, with 40 MB RAM; there were lower-end models. The keyboard doesn't add much thickness to it-it's about twice as thick as a modern laptop keyboard. Putting it in a netbook would add about 1/8th of an inch. (Yes, the Thinkpad 701s were pretty thick laptops - but there are three circuit boards layered in there,) I'd love to see this keyboard on a 10" netbook, but the problem is that the keyboard was very expensive to make-the Thinkpad 701 started at $4000.
though it'd probably never be built again, not that it's difficult, but there's just no need. cost aside, it adds to the thickness of the machine to intolerable levels by today's standards, and that the screen must be really small to require this technology.
i used the newer lenovo thinkpads, and while I can't say for the entire lineup, my new x series were markedly improved, much to my relief. I only speak for myself.
There's a point when a computer is too small to be a practical main computer anyway. i mean, the iTouch is practically a NetBook, but thing is i struggle with the touchscreen due to my homer simpson hands. I really can't say too much about the EEE PC, seeing as i've never used one. Of course, netbooks aren't meant to be main computers.
where you buy that?

@cjbht1 The red dot thing, the trackpoint, like a joystick. They still have it on their new models alongside the trackpad.

if all netbooks had these keyboards, the world would be a better place.

even if the computer was small like the Eee or the MSI Wind, i probly wouldnt buy it because it would look clunkyish.
