  • Thank You For Flying Chuck Norris!

  • That was sick!

  • Is it a badass landing? Yeah. Should he have gone around? FUCK YEAH. That kind of hotdogging, or poor judgment - whatever you want to call it is what gets pilots fired.

  • @phillyslasher idk wats wrong with u. thats was a great landingg and he is a good pilott....... he has confident in his abilitiesss

  • @mejus16 you're right, it was a great landing and he can definitelyl fly but, no airline would tolerate that. He probably should have just gone around.

  • the pilot was ASIAN!!

  • ten pilot zamiast jaj to ma ich chyba caly mendel a ludzie na pokladzie w pampersach lecieli

  • ...KAI TAK DRIFT!!! =D

  • Comment removed

  • thats was clouse, the wind was to strong for the bowing 777

  • Not a "good x-wind landing" as people are saying.

Firstly have a look at the windsock. Kai Tak would've had a 30kt sock so half erect it is indicating 15 knots - very manageable in even a 172. But I am sure all the flight sim arm chair pilots on YT noticed that....

So in summery blowing 4 tyres (as this Korean gentleman did) and having a pod strike in a 747-400 in a 15 knot x-wind is not a job well done. Hence he was sacked and KAL Cargo procedures put under investigation by the HKCAD.

  • I love korean air

So i wamt to be a korean air pilot

  • most of korean air pilots (at least korean citizens) are former air force pilots

  • Ladies and jentlemen, this is you captain speaking,if u look trough your left window,u can see the aiport steight ahead.

  • Im and Proud Asian. And We can drift anything from Cars to Planes.. And that was actually CRAZY. Im in America and I rarely see that

  • pilot is very skilled

  • actually good landing,,.. especially kai tak

  • I've heard that the plane was a cargo and the pilot's got a penalty big time because he's screwed up wheels during that landing.

  • @eugenenah its called crosswind he wouldnt have gotten fined or penalized for anything because he has two choices rock it sideways and land it or go at it straight over shoot the runway or drift into the water or buildings on either side of the runway. its pretty simple really crash or land

  • could he maybe of got it a bit more on the centre line or is it only possible to land like this in strong slightly off centre line then retrack once landed. Im pretty sure in strong x wind landings they have to touch down slighty off centre line and then retrack one wheels are on the ground. THe pressure from the upwind wing should reduce side loads on the landing gear.

  • stop judging his landing. he is a great skilled pilot.... he has confidence in his skillz dats y he landed dat plane.. and didnt go around....

  • it is crosswind it's normal. it's hard to make and the pilot we see here make a good crosswind landing!

  • 멋져 ㅋㅋ

  • Any landing you can walk away from, is a good landing.

  • Tricky

  • What a cruel land it is landing!

  • Crazy Korean !

  • @tnishiki If you don't know about pilot, please don't leave this kind of stupid message for unreasonably blame anything about Korean.

  • 大韓航空 ケンチャナヨ~

  • jo any one know what company devoloped the landing gears pllzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz reply thx

  • Kai Tak should have never been approved for airport, but this is small port city with limited landing space. But this pilot is GOOD.

  • @klee642 actually this pilot is CRAZY. eventhough he made some wonderful maneuvers to save the passengers lifes he should have aborted his landing.

  • i bet that was scary for the pilots and mies78 i agree

  • That pilot has balls. Big ones.

  • That a a Korean air! The most dangerous airline company in the world!

  • @pakurangaguy Go fucking troll somewhere else.

  • @MatureViewer i WONT SIT IN THE kOREAN AIRLINE OR THE ASIANA AIRLINE ALTHOUGH THEIR AIR HOSTESS WERE PRETTY! KOREANS WERE THE MOST RECKLESS AND DANGEROUS IN THE WORLD! NOT JUST THEIR POLITICS WERE CRAZY BUT SO DOES THEIR WHOLE SOCIETY!

  • @pakurangaguy Yes, a very dangerious airline making up to four stars by Skytrax standards. Very dangerous indeed. Judging from the comments on your page, you seem to a fucked up cunt with no sense.

  • @pakurangaguy who the fuck are you? CCP? how much are you getting paid?

  • @legitworker who am I doesnt matter to you and I will kepp saying Korean air was the most dangerous in the world!

  • @pakurangaguy too long make it short.

  • @pakurangaguy

Maybe, they just don't like you, because you were TOO LOUD.

  • @pakurangaguy most dangerous?? what accident is there in history?? except guam

  • @dhksrksalem the KAL 007 of 1 Sept 1983 take off from Anchorage to Seoul, bending away from the original path into soviet airspace and got shot down by fighters! That crisis nearly triggared WW3! How dangerous those Korean airline was!

  • @pakurangaguy It was flying off course, into Soviet airspace, idiot.

  • @pakurangaguy Actually Soviets accused Korean Air of taking pictures of their military sites along with US. So they shot down the civilian plane. And NO, there was NO WW3, as nuclear states don't challenge nuclear states. If South Korea had nuclear weapons, Soviet would not have shot that plane. Just because of YOUTUBE video, you cannot determine COMPLETE data of which Airline is safest. Complete data is more important, than emotional judgement.

  • @dhksrksalem Even, Guam was not the fault of the airline as ADMITTED BY the airport which did not maintain their electronic communication light up to maintanence. Guam Airport had to pay $millions to passengers, not korean airline.

  • ken block takes to the skys

  • The asian Chuck Norris was piloting this plane.

  • Hey ret's buird a runway so that the wind wirr bro across!

  • 0:7 slychac strzaly

  • Tokio Drift.. Oh... Kai Tak AIR Drift ;)

  • In that situation who the hell cares if the pilot lands the plane before the threshold?

  • damn thats some fucking flying right there. I bet wind was the issue, drifted it like an Evo10 haha

  • "Goddamit Boys, this plane is gonna land come hell or high water!!!"

  • and for now....leave the flying to the asians! :3

  • Talk about a hairy ride! Isn't that the airport they finally closed?

  • @vf12497439 Yeah, they have a much better airport now but the only thing bad about the new one is that it isn't as conviniently close to the down-town as the older airport.

  • Fancy Flying!!!!!!!!!

  • ....."oh there's the runway"

    lol

  • i would've shat a brick if that happened to me.

  • Airplane landing. Tokyo Drift style ..

  • OH CRAP !

  • so fucking skillet pilot..!! Wish i could do this !

  • great pilot! if you look carefully during the landing you can see that at first only one set of wheel takes the impact! great machine as well!

  • asians can drift anything

  • @DjNawmsayin yeah they can drive too

  • I wouldn't have wanted to sit at the "port" side during this landing :-P

  • @PilotGoneBoom

its not that the plane cant climb , it means that the lift is gone , and that the wings dont fly anymore , they just fall through the air. But this is not a stall

  • @PilotGoneBoom I know what Stalling is and that is not stalling, because the aircraft just floats for a good 2 seconds, it must be because of the strength of the wing.

  • Something i have always wanted to know is, Why does this 747 seem to stop moving and correct it's self to turn onto the runway? Look, at 0:10, it seems to just float in mid air???

  • thank God for handbrake

  • HOLYSHIT!

  • I actually witnessed this landing quite a few years ago, the pilot made his right bank on final too late because he overshot the turn marker don't know how it's half a mountain painted red & white checkers, the approach was also too high. It looked like he cross controlled and actually side slipped a 747 to lose altitude and not gain speed. He came to a complete stop before turn off I assumed to change undershorts. Another reason why not to fly Korean Air

  • @limey47 what? in simple talk please

  • @sgddfgfghfgh In simple terms I thought I was witnessing a crash. There is a small mountain painted with red & white checkerboard indicating the turn point on approach to the runway (90 deg. right turn). This guy turned too late and too high. He cross controlled which is a right bank with left rudder which causes the plane to sort of skid in the air and lose altitude without gaining airspeed. I've done this myself, but not with a 747 in a confined space

  • @limey47

    yeh its sideslipping

  • @limey47 It's called cross wind landing. You were able to see a lot of these landing in this airport. It's the safest way to land in this airport! I presume the wind was blowing from the right side of the plane. Check youtube!!!

  • @hyungsup2 Definitely not a cross wind landing he overshot the turn point and actually came over the terminal building which put him well off the center line of the runway. Watch the wheel smoke it doesn't blow in either direction - no wind

  • @hyungsup2

its not crosswind.... it is called sideslipping , like limey47 said it works as kinda airbrake

  • Yo This Pilot Was Trying to Show off to end up on youtube just because he a pilot dosent me wanna be a wanna be

  • chuck norris did an air hump

  • Koreans... standard procedure.

  • i wonder if the plane was checked out in the hangar afer this heavy touch down for structural issues if any.

  • plane drifting.............WHAT A SHIT!!!!!!!!

  • Apparently, this happened a lot at Kai Tak. That's why they needed to build a new airport away from the hills in the city.

  • what happens if u having a shit when it lands, like, when it bumps on the ground ur shit will fly up onto your ass...

  • @yoshihawv ikr Lol

  • hes just drifting

  • 0:10 The 747 turns into a Harrier! XD

  • crazy yellow people

  • perfectly fine landing. he crabbed in and turned down before he landed. the camer just caught it late. it was soft. i have done this bfore in the 172, and my headset cord diden't even jiggle lmao.

  • @p4ndiamond Except that he had no reason to crab

  • @p4ndiamond Apparently I was wrong. Just spoke with a former 747-400 Capt. who said that was a crazy approach....

  • wow

  • Joder, al final como lo cuadra el cabrón

  • actually the Korean 747 pilots are pretty badass

  • Which Microsoft flight sim is this? ;-)

  • You can't compare simulators to the real thing, harder to fly in reality, FSX has a certain element of game about it, I should know I fly them.

  • this airport is nuts

  • mmmmlike a glove

  • That's 60+ degree crosswind. Kai Tak is considered a difficult approach because you have to make a right turn before approach, that is, you can't fly straight in due to the mountains, and these guys don't even fly straight in for this short distance.

  • good job!

  • The first thing that impressed me is the impeccable timing of coming out of his right rudder yaw slip in order to come out just right for the landing not too far off from the center line. I mean, I've done that on flight simulator (very rarely) , but this guy actually does it in real life. All of that and no wing strike at all.

  • omg major skill!

    awesome landing!! wow!

  • The windsock looks to be showing 10kts assuming it's a 25kt sock which means the landing configuration can't be because of crosswind. A 10kt crosswind wouldn't have such an adverse effect on an aircraft that size! Looks like they overshot the approach and corrected with lots and lots of rudder.

  • I pretty much agree. If the crosswind was that bad, nobody would ever want to even attempt to fly into this Kai Tak let alone with a heavy aircraft in any crosswind whatsoever. If such is the case, and I agree, then my hat is off to this guy. He sure put on a show in order to refuse to go around.

  • @eibib

That's exactly what happened, there is almost no crosswind.

They punctured 14 of the 16 wheels on that landing.

  • @MasoniteMiniZ no they didnt dumb ass ! not to mention look at the landing its a beautiful in fact it is almost a greaser!!! beautiful landing AMAZING pilots deserve a raise!!! a BIG raise!

  • @thefsxandREALpilot this wasn't a great landing at all. the pilot messed up the approach, that's why it looks like a heavy crosswind landing. if you look closely at the smoke from the tires, you see that the wind comes from the left hand side but the aircrafts nose shows to the opposite direction...if this was a crosswind-landing, th nose should have been in the wind

  • @64h5dsf14j6s41h5s4j5 ya whatever lets see you do that Mr. critic he did an amazing job he had to make a 90 DEGREE TURN ON HIS FINAL APPRCH WITH CROSSWINDS IN A 747 all at the same time and the touchdown was smooth if you look so ok we'll go with it "wasnt a great landing at all"

  • Comment removed

  • @thefsxandREALpilot

Or you could just look at the windsock at about 18 seconds and see there wasn't much wind at all. I'd have thought a REAL pilot woudl have spotted that..

  • @DamoSuzuki100 ya well mr. amazing thinks he could pilot that plane and do it all by himself the quality is too damn bad to see the damn windsock not to meantion the friken video ENDS at 0:18 look they were amazing pilot they did an amazing job they landed the plane so softly with those angles/turn/winds/ whatever the hell else so if you dont think they are amazing pilots then you are a dumbass, idiot

  • @thefsxandREALpilot

I meant at 0.04 seconds, my mistake - i read the length of the video by mistake. Anyway. Pause it at 0.04 and you will see the windsock quite clearly. NOtice that it is hanging down at about 45 degrees. Now then, A standard windsock will be fully extended at 15 knots of wind, a 45 degree angle implies under 10 knots. Now then, 10 knots of crosswind isn't much if you're in a 747, so he hardly required to be crabbing in like he was..

  • @thefsxandREALpilot

..so the most likely explanation is that he stuffed up, overshot the centerline, and was struggling like hell to get the thing down when it might have been more sensible to go around. He also manages to stuff it down on the port outermost wheel while still moving sideways, which won't have done it much good, and most certainly wasn't a "soft landing"!

Anyone who claims to be a real pilot but missed the windsock and thinks that was a smooth landing is a liar. Or bad pilot

  • @64h5dsf14j6s41h5s4j5 you cannot decide that because of the wind. large airplanes create wingtip vortices which create turbulence. saying that the wind was blowing a certain direction because of the smoke of the tires is irrelevent.

  • @64h5dsf14j6s41h5s4j5

I concur - he overcooked the turn and was off centerline, and had to struggle like hell to get it back. Still, better to be lucky than good..

  • @MasoniteMiniZ It's a Boeing 747-400 it had a total of 18 wheels not 16. Also there is clearly a left crosswind.

  • quite agile, consittering the tail is the size of a small apartment

  • skillz XD

  • this crazy landing is called an crosswind landing

  • XD it looks like a ufo landing alittle at the end

  • I do agree that there are thousands of pilots that go through similar or worse weather conditions at kai tak a year but why this landing is impressive is because if you look closely when the plane is landing the left main landing gear takes the weight of the whole plane (400,000 pounds plus passengers and fuel)

  • it's not zero-lift-condition at that stage, so only bout 50% of the whole mass. but still impressive!!

  • I find this landing truly impressive. The way he plants the left main down makes it look like this guy wrote the book on crosswind landings. Even more that it's a jumbo.

  • the pilots are jitsuing with the crosswinds :D

  • pretty impressive, looks like he's fighting a mean cross wind

  • This is why I always take a shit BEFORE I get on a plane

  • I rhink I´ve seen it before...but still as skillful as it gets

  • pure skill and beastlyness

  • Crazy Landing? Just a pretty well pulled off Crosswind to me..

  • i dunno if you've actually flown into Kai Tak or not - but most of the time I fly in - Kai Tak's got so much crosswind on top of hazardous approaching to the airport due to poor city planning in Hong Kong - that this kind of landing is inevitable. I'm actually really glad this vid is up online- it shows how skilled korean air pilots are.

  • ugh, i'm sorry you suck. Korean Air is not a crap airline after all. Korean Air is indeed one of the safest and nicest airlines in the world. American carriers (american, delta, united, us air, continental, northwest, etc) all suck. there's a reason that Korean Air is the largest air freight carrier in the world and one of the fastest growing commercial airlines in the world.

  • I'm almost wondering if this guy though he had already the main gears.. Even though he was way too low.

You can see he leveled the wings, and the main gear where almost dead on the centerline. Normally in a 747 crosswind landing you land the main gears on centerline like that, then use them as pivot point, and kick the rudders over to line the nose up then de-rotate. Which he did, but the gear wasn't on the ground, and caused that.

  • in TV ,i see this case

  • Only a pussy would go around.

  • that is crosswind

  • this real PRO!

  • that was a nice landing!!!!!!!!

  • What a stupid place to put an airport.

  • Guys I can assure you that there would have been an FAA inquiry into this and then the pilot flying fired.

My Dad was shocked to see this landing in Kai Tak, & he's a Qantas Captain that used to fly into here all the time.

There is no excuse for the stupidity & ignorance displayed here, & why he didn't just go-around is beyond me

  • This pilot earned his paycheck for this landing, I can assure you.

Maybe he didn't have the fuel to go around???

I think this pilot did and excellent job landing this aircraft, given the current situation.

  • He totally botched the approach, and obviously a lack of common sense lead to this, you can quite clearly see he over shot the runway because he didn't allow for the cross-wind which he would have fully been aware of.

And let me assure you, he would of had plenty of fuel to press to/ga and try again if he was flying within the correct civil aviation standards.

but If there was not enough fuel though I would not be surprised, it is Korean Air after all.. Crap airline, crazy pilot, lucky landing

  • If he didn't have the fuel to go around, then that is another point against him. You should have enough have enough fuel for to make your diversion field, plus 45 minutes on landing.

That was a pretty unstabalized approach, and a G/A should have been initiated, but any landing you can walk away from is a good one. Any landing you can use the plane again is a great one. Though I am sure the gear and struts had to be checked before the next flight.

  • Oh trust me, my dad said the aircraft mechanics were hating this pilot, lol.

  • To give the pilot a little bennifit of the doubt, it starts of as a fairly good crosswind FROM THE RIGHT approach. Wing 5 degree's down, and crabbing with the nose into the wind. The 747 can not land wing down due to the outboard engine nacels.

The gear is designed to be able to take the weight of the aircraft at a 45 degree angel. It looks like he was too low on the approach, and had to pull out of the crab in order to make the T/D point, and lost it. Almost pod stuck the port outboard

  • An FAA inquirey into a foreign owned carrier, at a non US airport. Surely you jest..

  • Well whatever the Chinese civil aviation authority is called then..

This was an extremely unprofessional landing. END OF STORY

  • Nearly 50% of all Kai Tak landings look like this. I would like to know if the pilots get extra paycheque for each time playing roulette with their life when landing on the old city airport?

  • the pilot is just showing off so he could end up here on youtube

  • this is kai tak in hong kong. search for all the other videos of crazy landings here. they have to do a crazy approach as to not hit a large hill from which this was taken and also not end up in the city, or the drink.

  • dude, i was being sarcastic!

  • @sfmakten hahahha youtube came out about seven years after kai tak airport closed ;)

  • @sfmakten yeah, either he makes it here to you tube, or six feet under ground, sounds kinda risky

  • @sfmakten lol kai tak was closed in 98

  • damn thats some nice crosswind flying it looks crazy but its pretty nice done

  • Its not crosswind, its an extremely bad pilot. And the worse of all that is that he didn't go around like every pilot would've done.

  • A landing illegal by the FAA..

  • When you film things from very far away with a strong zoom lens many things tend to look much more dramatic than they are. If you had filmed that landing from the side it probably wouldn't have looked particularly dangerous or anything. : )

  • Check out the wind sock at 4 seconds. Not much of a cross wind. This crew cocked-up the approach (off the centre line) and made an extremely dangerous recovery manouvre, when they should have gone around for the second attempt. I hope the crew spent several months in front of flight simulators after that stunt (with appropriate reductions in salary).

  • I agree, can't get a very good perspective on which way the windsock is pointing, but not fully extended so less than 15 knots whichever way it was blowing. He ended up too far left of the runway (common problem in the 747 on this approach) and tried to correct by slewing it back onto the centre line with a boot full of right rudder. It paid off in the end but only because the rest of the approach was good.

  • disgrace of an airport. no concern for the safety of anyone. shocking.

  • pilots in the old days had much more skills

  • Its ok to land in the displaced threshold in VFR conditions.

  • respect for the man!!!

  • anyone who thinks this is a good crosswind landing look at the windsock and go back to flightsim2004 or whatever you play in shame.

  • Comment removed

  • Great skills

  • is that the same pilot who crashed the korean air 747 a while ago? the one on air crash investigation>?

  • Kai Tak airport closed in 1998 because it was outdated and "unsafe", and replaced by the modern Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok.
