  • people probably dont want a "different" solo than this one when they buy the track, they want THIS one. its so wonderful.

  • seriously dude, ive never seen such a fucking dumbass lol, its bb style track, not solo, the solo is what u want it to be

  • I've watched this so many times and it still amazes me

  • man youre just such a fool, the video says that is a "bb king style", if you see all the videos that says the bb style, you need to play like bb king, yes i know that you can make your style the song but you need the sound similar like bb king, if youre gonna play like yourself just put " me playing" its so stupid put the name of BB KING if youre not gonna play like him or make his figures, bb king plays like 4-6 notes and youre playin like 10-15, so pathetic

  • NO WAY, YOU HAVEN'T HEARD OF CAT CLEMONS!? Come redeem your shame by checking out my videos and commenting and subscribing! It'll be awesome. Trust me.

    -Cat

  • does it say anywhere that he is playing like BB. NO !!!!!! it is merely a BB king style track. losers.

  • in my opinion, you should remove your expectatons and listen

  • There's no one better than B B king. NO ONE! This is all wrong. U can tell by the way he plays, looks and he type of guitar he has that is a hard rocker not a blues player. This guy is playing super fast. In most blues solos the playing isn't that fast.

  • @OfficialCRUSHJJG Because you know, it's not like music is completely subjective or anything...

  • @OfficialCRUSHJJG This is him playing over a rhythm track styled after B.B King. Where does it even say that he's better or this solo is better than anything B.B has come up with? This is Guthrie Govan playing in the style of Guthrie Govan. God damnit, how hard is it to read?

  • Comment removed

  • WTF? BB king is about the blues ie: less is more and phrasing same as all the other greats and theres only one guy who can play blues like no one else and thats gary moore. Guthrie is a muscial wanker if you want to wank use you hand not the guitar! It ruins the whole blues thing, who the fuck wants to see or listen to some twat trying to be clever and seeing how many notes he can fit in a solo in one go?err no one pfffft. nob.

  • @TheDannylean Literally the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Congrats, that's a big deal on youtube; there must be some sought of prize for you.

  • @TheDannylean Guthrie was asked to improvise over these backing tracks. He did not know they were named after great guitarists. He just played the way he plays. I hope I made that simple enough for you to understand. As for his "musical wanking", its called not playing just blues and pentatonic licks, you fuck.

  • @TheDannylean I love BB King, Gary Moore etc, but this guy is a different guitarist style wise. In my opinion he is playing brilliantly.

Oh and nobody plays the blues better than Rory Gallagher ;)

  • @TheDannylean Listen to cold winter blues then shut the fuck up get off your soap box. He shreds because he likes it, but he can play blues with the best of them when his mood desires it. Wanker.

  • @TheDannylean Wow, you're a fucking idiot.

  • Orgasmic tone. Guthrie is wonderful!

  • Too many notes for BB Kings style Blues. Blues is not about always playing fast. It is about how you play each note and many of the best notes are no notes at all.

  • @TJayee1 "many of the best notes are no notes at all" ... wahht?!

  • @TJayee1 The video title is, "Guthrie Govan playing to B.B. King style track " not Guthrie Govan playing like BB King style blues. It's just a bb king style blues track. Guthrie is not trying to sound like BB King.

  • Even when he plays slow, he give it so much soul and imagination. And he uses so many interesting and colorful notes combined with impeccable technique and blindingly fast runs, it's just... wow. Awesome.

  • can anyone link me the backing track?

  • show me those 27 who don't like it

  • 1 of the top guitarist in the world, any style you want this man can deliver!!!!!!!!

  • @masoudnima

Slash is more well known to the people who know nothing about a guitar and have seen him on guitar hero and listened to the 'All mighty' Guns 'n' Roses. Guthrie doesn't have to be more 'famous' or more well known, because everyone who has listened to him and actually knows something about a guitar/music will say hands down that Guthrie is easily a better player/musician.

  • lol - purist of blues want it slow, their way of telling you they can't play fast. this is blues, using those blues cadences with alot of passing notes---- much more interesting to listen too.

  • Too much...too fast. We know you are fast but it is blues, so chill out :)

  • @VitQ1 Since when does blues have to be slow? Please do tell!

  • where do i geht THIS backing track??

  • Yeah feeling blues.,!!

  • Its funny to read all the crap "blues players" say about this guy... Ok most shredders only play crap... but this guy gives every single note he plays a meaning. BB king CAN'T play all these notes... doesn't mean his a bad guitar player... it just mean Guthrie Govan is WAY better. This guy reached perfection...

  • @thiagomassara Guthrie isn't better than BB King at playing blues, very few people are.. BB King invented a lot of the electric blues. I agree with you, all in all Guthrie is better than King, but I didn't feel anything here. The thing about blues is that you dont have to play really fast to make it sound good.. You can, but you dont have to. This was really nice and I enjoyed listening to it, but it didn't quite reach my soul

  • @AndreasSku93 Fuckin A right man. BB plays less than half the notes, but goddamn you can feel it

  • @thiagomassara i couldnt have said it better myself

  • Toca brutal, pero lo de bb king tiene un 0

  • BB KIng doesen't need all that notes, i'm sorry..

  • "Great playing but not much restraint. Legato shredding over a B.B. King style track? Why?"

    Why, indeed.

"No room for the blues to breathe through."

Both quotes say it very well. Not hearing much blues sensibility coming through at all, among all those notes and that incredible technical skill, earned through years of daily practice. This player could probably mellow into an outstanding blues player in his later years if he chooses to focus on more feeling and less shredding

  • @hyjyljyj Well first off, this isn't really shredding. This has very carefully selected notes in it, and all of them are played with feeling. shredding is just playing at maximum speed regardless of feeling just for the show of it. There's much worse out there (Yngwie) & can tell that this guy could easily play twice as fast if he wanted to. It's great playing, just not the slow blues we're used to. Guthrie's style isn't bad, it's just different, and you have to be different today to be good.

  • Too many notes, no room for the blues to breath through.

  • Veldig bra.

  • Great playing but not much restraint. Legato shredding over a B.B. King style track? Why?

  • @StageHolder Because there is no "Right" way in music u just do what u feel ,otherwise he would just be copying B.B. King

  • @Mr1GingerBread1 exactly. personally i LOVE that he respects the blues style but injects his own style into it as well. that's how it should be done in my opinion.

  • @StageHolder why not?

  • @StageHolder Its like trying to hold a 426 Hemi to 5 miles an hour thats why lol!

  • Guthrie is a great player as are many so why do people try to compare??? Just accept each on their own merits. Learn and Enjoy.. Good grief!!!

  • Er... I don't reckon dear ol' BB has played that many notes in his entire recording/gigging career, lol! Absolutely facemelting. ;)

  • god damn this shit gives me goosebumps and multiples all day long!!!!

  • @scottfree6

    Haha :D Well said.

  • no offence to BB king but seriously, if he played blues like this he would be a fucking BB GOD :L:L

  • @olipickrockgod Lol... are you stupid? You've probably heard one song with B.B...

  • @CaptainOwnski hmmm no. BB kind is one my idols.. the comment i wrote is called a 'joke'. okay?

i was stating the fact that if BB kind played like this, we would all bit a bit surprised.

and i'm entitled to my opinion, i didnt ask for some jerk to try and argue with me did i? no.

    goodbye.

  • This sounded more like an acid jazz than blues... I liked anyway you have your own style and for me its very good an interesting. But I think this backingtrack wasnt made for you and your style.Ive been watching a few of your videos and I think youre awesome for your unique style. Good playing anyway!

    Cheers from Argentina Guthrie!

  • Haha people need to learn to read, and learn to listen: this backing track is indeed very B.B King, but he is still playing like himself :)

  • i follow you man wait i m comming near you

  • Joe Bonamassa needs to play a solo over this backing track. Really. Fits his style more imo.

  • this is so porn....!!

  • @markoeos if porn music was this good i would only be able to listen to it and not do anything else!

  • @bassman7890 i said that because its a horny song xD

  • @markoeos ah i see now, apologies!!! you're very right though :)

  • 1:34 Gambale sygnature sweeps :)

  • best lick: 0:35

  • That's not B.B.King style!

  • @heckermann

You're trying to tell me that backing track doesn't sound like "The Thrill Is Gone"?

    watch?v=aH1kujMBEg4&feature=related

  • Generally I only comment on vids I really like, I have to say, while this is some nice playing, there is a huge gulf in the musical level BB is at and Guthrie. There was no breathing space at all in the song where you could absorb and enjoy the music. I guess it's hard to play something that's not your style. I know BB KIng couldn't have played Guthrie's style

  • @madmakx187 Because you don't know, I won't ring you out. Guthrie has said multiple times, he was asked to sit down, and jam over random backing tracks(not evein knowing they were " in the style of"). He had no idea this was a BB one, or that was a jeff beck one ect. If he had known, and was asked to emulate them, he obviously would have done that. its just annoying when people lament him for not playing in the style of blank when, had he known, he clearly could have done so.

  • i know everybody is fan of guthrie, so you will lynch me but his sound is harsh, his guitar sounds too bright without sustain and resonance like the other harsh sounding suhr players (pete thorn for example). they don't deserve those crazy high prices. sorry.

  • @bulenterdem1977 Maybe he was searching for that sound, or not. I agree with u, some Suhr don't deserve their prize

  • sometimes less is more, I think it can take an artist awhile to learn to leave space

  • hey not bb king lol great playing love it hahaha but sure not bb king way too fast

  • @motorhead1995able It's a BB King style backing track. It doesn't say he's trying to play like BB King...

  • @gingersteve yes ok

  • ha ha .. BB King only wishes he could play like that !!

  • 0: 44 the only guitarist that can bombard you with enough perfectly synchronized notes to the extent where when he throws a killer double tone bend it sounds like dramatic silence...

  • I really cannot find a guitarist more well-rounded, technical, or soulfull than Govan. In my opinon, he is the best in the world.

  • Fantastic player but don't diss players like Slash either. They aren't technically as advanced as Govan but they have created lots of memorable licks and riffs.

  • @GoodGuitarSolos yes, but see, unlike slash and the rest, govan is there for the music, not for the fame, cause if thats what it would be, this video would have more views, alot more. and alot of people would know who this god is. and if he wouldve gone with guns and roses, i can tell you that he would have made better and more memorable riffs than slash and all of that gang have made. now all that together to say that govan is a god, and that slash shouldnt be more famous, this shit isnt fair

  • @aleg12 Yes, but so what? Slash was part of incredible rock group and did fantastic things too. Govan should find one too because I'm pretty sure that he would find huge fame with his guitar playing IF his band was right one. Still, I think he prefers making guitar-driven instrumental music: less fame but more guitar playing fans.

  • Guthrie, just wondering. Can I be you? :)

  • Good stuff for sure!

  • the same as bb king!! all the notes that govan get out with his hand in this track, bb king has done in his career of over 60 year lol

  • guthrie is so good that he plays fast line by doing smooth legato instead of picking all the notes. the sound resulted fits the backing track well.

  • Its technically superb. Awesome in fact. But as a jobbing musician myself I just can't see it selling to a mass market. I know mine doesnt :-) If he is happy with being in a super genre then that is great. But most musicians I know would give a testicle to create stuff like Slash and Clapton and Blackmore etc who could make millions of people impressed, and with a band around them. Thats just my tuppence. Don't shoot

  • @macmurphy95 Guthrie has this thing called integrity.

  • I know Guthrie is awsome, but i just like how versatile that suhr is.. just seems at home playing anything :P

  • BB king wishes he could play like this

  • @JamesGod08

Maybe BB King wishes to have this technich. But would Guthrie play something like this if he didnt know BB King?

  • @Lackper The question is, did history make BB King or did BB King make history, eh eh ;)

  • open your soul dude.. feel it.. smell it.. it's fuckin' blues man ;)

  • @Ljupcheeee fuckin' A, brah

  • @Ljupcheeee what does blues smell like?

  • @Ljupcheeee we can smell and love too bad we all can't play it!! lol guthrie is one of a kind, no one is that fluid but him! ! guy is a genius over sized brain!!

  • I think people like Guthrie Govan should leave the blues for blues guitarists.

    He raped this backing track!

  • and yet slash is more famous.. whats wrong with this world

  • @masoudnima Yea what's going on in this world.... -_-

  • @masoudnima It's actually really simple and obvious why Slash is more famous and if you can't figure out why, then I feel bad for you.

Guthrie is a guitarists guitar player, that's why he'll probably only every stay well known with guitar players who are interested in their technique and advanced songwriting.

  • @dodel1 your response had nothing to do with wat i said :D

  • @masoudnima Slash is more famous because he had a marketable image, style, a band with attitude and sounded considerably different than the rest of the 80s guitar players.

Guthrie Govan has technique and good instrumental songwriting, those aren't 10xPlatinum CD sale-makers :P

  • @masoudnima The endless quest for money.

  • @masoudnima why would that bother anyone ? Being famous does not mean anything. That lady Gaga dude is the perfect example. To be honest, I love that guthrie is not that famous (outside the guitar world of course).

  • @masoudnima

    Tell you what it is,

    LIFE IS NOT FAIR.

    P.S

    This dude rocks!

  • @masoudnima Well, Slash was in Guns n' Roses. This guy wasn't. Too bad for him

  • @barneycockburn im sure Guthrie cries himself to sleep every night over that.

  • @masoudnima Slash is not better guitar player then Guthrie but his solos fit perfectly in all of arleady perfect Guns N' Roses songs.

  • @masoudnima seriously someone has gotta GIVE THIS GUY A BREAK...he is just soooo good its virtuoistic..if thats a word lol! i meqn i think alex hutchings is incredible too but guthrie just has a flair about his playing that just owns all the music he does

  • Comment removed

  • @masoudnima sad, but true. people prefer pop than art

  • @masoudnima real guitarist that are actually good listen to G3:)

  • @thesheldonator Guthrie is G3! Guthrie Govan Guitar = Gx3 = G3

  • @masoudnima Thoughtless people giving into mainstream record companies propaganda of what real music is....That's just my own personal thought though.

  • @masoudnima Who cares about how famous the artist is?

  • @deadithink there was an old bluesman called mel brown that said he does not want to be famous.

he wants to be able to go to his favorite bars and walk peacefully down the street.

  • FUCKING BEAST OF GUITARIST AND seems like a good guy too Guthrie Rules

  • what guitar does he use?

  • @Daan7000

    Suhr

  • @Daan7000 its a suhr custom made hand crafted- american company ...about 2000 pounds i think...

  • so you see how blues can get in

  • I love Guthrie, he's unbelievable; seen him live a couple of times and it's just amazing, although I agree he should sometimes give up speed and funambulism and just "make love to that poor lady" as someone here at foot suggested. Humbly and respectfully speaking, of course!! After all, whenever you dare touch giants like B B, you inevitably step into a minefield!!

  • a piece of advice from and old an man who's been listening the blues long before you were born!

Stop fucking so ruthlessly that poor lady you're holding in your arms , and just make love to her!!

  • great!!! But too much Notes!!

  • amazing

  • @bluesjamtracks are this a brownsville guitar?

  • @imperezo Nope, a Suhr guitar.

  • what about a Guthrie Govan style track!?

  • good player. but i feel nothing. don't compare with b.b. king.

  • It's to fast fpr B.B King

  • Very cool, I will check out the rest of your channel #UN#

  • I can dig it. Soundin good to me

  • Check out my "Wonderful Slippery Thing" Cover! "Guthrie Govan - Wonderful Slippery Thing (Cover by Joey Jones) "

  • i wanna see what B.B. says

  • perfect feeling

  • Sounds much more like D. Gilmour stuff!

  • GG is playing too much for MY taste, but not for HIS taste, and he is a GENIUS as to expressing anything he wants to, incredibly gifted.

  • Gah his double stops are so tasteful... truly demoralizing to someone trying to learn this kind of stuff.

  • is there anything this man can't play?

  • Im suprised that Guthrie doesnt use his pinky so much. Great playing!

  • Well this guy is amazing but he is more into jazz i think

  • It's quite irritating when people say anything negative about guthrie.... B.B. king is B.B. king guthrie govan is without doubt one of our finest british guitarists and teachers. Anyone saying he's got no soul are obviously jealous cos they can't play... Buy B.B. kings "my 1st book of guitar" and bend that 1 note in your bedroom

  • How nice if there is a tab for this.

  • 20 people dont have a soul

  • great guitar tone, love it!

  • wholly shit he's mean he makes me wana quit AND go harder playing at the same time!!!

  • Okay, so like so many of his videos on here, he has shown he can play fast (and well). It has also shown he can't play slowly, & that's probably more difficult!!! (Perhaps that's why BB King is world famous, & GG is famous amongst shredders?) The song needs to "breathe" and have melody, and dynamics. Only my opinion, and no, I am NOTHING like as good as he is, nor do I have the inclination to practice hard enough to try to be!

  • @vazon69 you do have to understand though that this is not a song, and he does not try to make it one. It is a demonstration of what can be acheived over this backing track. He can play slow, listen to his album.

  • Guys... will He teach me if i plea'?

  • GG is not so much aping BB's style as he is just playing in a variation

of his own style, INSPIRED by BB.

The BB flavor, and plenty of suggestions of BB's style & licks

    are sprinkled throughout.

But the fact GG can bend his own style into so many directions shows his

profound awareness of stylistic elements. He displays great musical flexibility

as well as his lauded technical mastery.

I bet he could play any kind of music.

  • people saying hes playing like B.B. King are very confused... o.0

  • master class!!!

  • I couldn't do that.

He's one of the only modern guitarists who I deem worthy to record a guest solo on a Steely Dan album. And also could tap into that style really well. 1:20 says it all.

  • 1.35 sounds like a frank gambale inspired lick.. is there anything this guy can't play??

  • yes. notice, B.B. King "style" track...... B.B. kept things alot simpler. both extremely talented people.

  • seriously... where else would you want to be... except here... listening to this....

  • He really is G.G King :P

  • He makes me so happy.

  • ive seen a few of his video. he good. one thing though

leave space. dont be afarid to leave gaps . slow down , it aint about notes per second. like santana said "one note with feeeling..." speaks to the heart

  • @lunchmeat77 you realize who this guy is ?

  • @lunchmeat77 holy shit someone finally understands me..

  • What is this crap about little Willie Clinton? I'm watchin' Guthrie burn it up then all of a sudden here's a documentary some disgusting political idiot. Cut it out youtube.

  • hhh yeaah G.G King

  • INCREIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,GOVAN

  • haha ofcourse he using scales... jazz scales, its called jazz fusion.

  • music style and technicality is all about what we feel inside... our own emotions move us.... and that is a reflection of the many great talented people before us then we are blessed to be just as good as they were. A great musician, artist, singer, etc... does not need confirmation of their greatness... they just need people to listen to the music and "FEEL" their story.... that simple.

  • maestro! como suena eso

  • all i'm gonna say is, when i listen to b.b king, after every fill, i just want more, he paces himself and won't play one more note than whats needed. where as this guy has some nice parts but all i hear is nice parts sandwidged between mush (scales) one after the other. Haven't you noticed most of the people that see these guys play are usually muso's or friends of muso's, b.b kings audience is varied. *just my opinion*

  • @NameSupplied some people like feel....some people like feel and monster virtuosity.

  • @NameSupplied - There are only so many things you can do with the blues scale though before you start to repeat licks over and over. This guy can't be accused of that.

  • @Hardysamnin It's not the point. the point is he can keep his great scaIes and speed and progessive nature, but breathe more, ok some songs are fun to slam straight into it, but this guy has no were to go, starts of fast like all the other tech guys but no climax like a early santana or something. Its called musicallity, light and shade.

  • @NameSupplied he has fast-faster-fastest-moch 15

  • @NameSupplied you know guthrie doesn't use scales right? he uses whatever notes he wants and makes them work.

  • @element1988 just goes to show you miss the point i'm trying to make. scales or runs whatever, i have a problem with a lack of story telling. I prefer older guitarists, most guitarists from the blues guys to santana to david gilmour, to gary moore to hendrix to even ritchie blackmore to an extent is that There basic guitarits in theory, but why are they so great? cause they use what they got well and know how to make/tell a story. just my opinion

  • @NameSupplied - "Why are they so great?"

Firstly, because the vast majority of people who listen to music cannot actually play a musical instrument and therefor cannot fully appreciate the talent it takes to reach this level.

Secondly, Santana, Floyd, and Gary Moore are all easy listening, contemparary artists, where the lyrics and vocals play a HUGE part. More popular = better is evidently not the case, or we would be bowing down to the Spice Girls and the Pussy cat dolls.
