It worked for me after the 5th time, i shall keep doing this. i dont think this will work for all dogs. My pit bull puppy is getting too strong and is drawing blood. For me this was a sharp NO means NO without hurting him.
I have been scheming the web for a solution to my 10 week old lab puppy biting (not play biting or just nipping or mouthing) aggressively. I must add that he is a great puppy (one of the best I have ever seen and hence I got him) while his parents are both international dog champs. He is just way too active and aggressive. This is the only video that actually finally WORKED FOR ME. its less than 24 hours that I have tried it and I am really amazed to see the results. Thanks a ton :)
This method actually can make the agression worse. When you hold a dogs snout they tense up and it just makes them more angry. it builds their agression rather than taking it away. DONT use this technicue if you have a Rotie or a pitbul. What you need to do when a dog bites you in an aggresive way, you grab their scruff and kind of pin then to the ground and tower over them. This mimics the characteristics of a wold pack. You asert your dominance.
and another thing...this also goes for all you "new age" people who dont believe in discipline for your children. You people are ruining the world. You want to be your childs friend instead of its parent. You put them in 'time out' as punishment. Really???...time out?? Your child grows up not respecting you at all. So go ahead and reproduce.... sit them down in front of the X-Box so you dont have to raise them and feed them high fructose corn syrup and canned soda till they explode.
I tried the "new age" methods for nipping. Including making like a tree and looking the other way etc. None of that worked. For some reason in the last 15 years there has been this movement towards ONLY positive re-inforcement. You progressive people need to understand that a dog is basically a domesticated wolf. They are PACK ANIMALS. If you do not take the role as leader they will step-up and become leader thenmselves. Personally, I am going to give the info. in this video a try.
Adding an aversive to suppress behavior - how many times would you suggest the use and when would you intensivy the correction? Just curious to know what behavior training or seminars you've attended? Do you think analyzing the situation first and then using other less intrusive means more appropriate?
Oh, I love expert village. Expert usually at dispensing BS as in this case. This is so 1950's dog training. You do not extingwish play biting, you TEACH "bite inhibition" which teaches the dog to lightly grab with it's teeth, not bite.. Google that!
@musicofnote1 or if your smart you will learn that a dog biting a human AT ALL is a BAD THING, not necessarily because he may hurt you, but because you love your dog and you dont want some fucking idiot claiming it bit them when it mearly play 'nipt' and now you have to put your dog down and pay this city money for having an untraiend dog. the world is turning to pussys
i jsut got a new puppy 7 ears later and he play nips hes not even 12 weeks old yet but hes already learning but we have to understand dogs dont think like we do so it takes longer. ppl r too harsh but this is a failry easy way to train doggy
I have a new puppy and a 4 yr old child. Should I take my child's hand and place it on the puppy's nose and tap her hand and put her hand back to the puppy? He jumps and bits (play bits) her a lot. She usually puts her hands out in front of him to keep him down but I think when she does that it provokes him to jump and play more. Any suggestions?
you you need to do is have a small pen they cant get out of...lean over and pet the dog . as soon as teeth touch your skin say no...but dont shout it and walk away for 2 mins....repeat this and they get the idea that biting stops play. they wont like this and will stop...fast
Dude, that's a miniature pinscher.A RODENT knows that isn't a Power-Breed.And stop hitting your dogs, and expecting positive results: Not all dogs respond the same...I'm really surprised a vet' would recommend hitting as a deterrant to play/agressive biting. How dangerous is that. And then you're not afraid FOR the child, just that they might DO IT WRONG....WoW...I mean wow,Doc'...Well,atleast you're not a trainer...Stick to what you do best: Cuttin'em open...I don't mean to attack you.Don't hit dogs

IF that dosent work you can either pinch their ear or bite them.
HeroxWolfy821 1 year ago
@HeroxWolfy821 Flick their nose. some dogs have sensitive cartilage on their ear that can break.
