you need to get some factories to turn tobbacco into cigars, or lumber into furniture, or suger to rum, alcohol, etc... this is what is added value that will make your Troooooopicooo RICH, .. :D .. good luck dude, you're doing great..
2 corn farms is a little short of food at this point of the game. You should also build a Marketplace early because the dumb citizens will go all the way to the farms to get the food.
A Coffee farm is also a good idea, despite whether the crop you get near the starting point is good or not.
@onsholo Fish wharf: not a reliable food source. A corn farm can feed 30 citizens, but a fish wharf is around 10-20 citizens. Also, fish is better used for Cannery to sell for a better price than used for food.

Hey I'm currently playing this game and I cant figure out how to hire foreign workers. Anyone? I cant continue playing, my island depends on me hiring college graduates from abroad.
when you're at the screen to adjust the salary, underneath it there is 3 buttons. The first one (looks like a boat) is the hire foreign workers button.
city building games are fun, but they tend not to have a huge amount of replay value
Tropico's been pretty good in that respect so far. I've put a good 20 hours into the game and I'm not bored with it yet. As long as get 30 hours out of it, it will be worth the 40 bucks
now, could you just take the country over and be a dictator? Like, do away with the elections altogether and have a military takeover/assassinate the competition?
Campaign has missions like "export X amount of iron in 20 years" or "Get X amount of tourist in 15 years" while sandbox game is just you building an island with no real objective.
I usually just assassinate as many of my opponents supporters as possible that usually does it for me

you can assasinate rivals or imprison them, provided you have a secret police HQ or a prison respectively
you can forgo elections altogether as well, but people tend to hate you for it, and they can even revolt

the maximum timeframe possible in this game is from 1950-2000, but you can pick any start and end date within that range for sandbox mode
