Just curious where you have the tweeter on the 2x12 set during this demo. I'm really getting close to buying the 2x12 I have the Shtl 9.0 so I hope it matches up as well as your Shtl Max.
@BassGuitarMag Thank you. I was looking at the Ampeg svt 2 pro, but man that is alot of money haha. The tone that this amp has is very nice and seems to pack a punch!
@BassGuitarMag / @jmanis92 I use this with the 410 cab instead of a 212, the 410 definitely has the bottom to support the lower tuning, I'm playing a 6 string tuned down to A and this amp and cab just want more and more of the bottom! Depending on the bass you're playing and the ideal tone you're going for, you might want to get something like the Aguilar Tone Hammer or the Sansamp BDDI to help. My Bongo doesn't really need it to get some 'grit' but my Fender Jazz needs some help getting there.
Nice amp, by the way I haven´t found any reviews about de AXL bass amps, have you ever tried one?, because i really want to know about the sound that they can give you, tanks for your time men
Hey Ed, what an awesome amp! Wish i had the dough!
Quick question though, i am looking at getting a new cab, and i've boiled it down to a 212 and a 210, i have played through both with the amp i will be using but it was only on a 4 string and i play a 6 string, As a general rule would the 212 support the Low B better? If i got the 210 i might add another 210 under neath or a 115, but i would keep the 212 stand alone. Any thoughts? Many thanks! AC
@AttitudeCastle - in general you can say that 212 will have more low end than a 210, but it also depends on the cabinet design, the type of speakers... I myself prefer 12s to 10s for bass.
Thanks Ed for all the great gear videos. You are really a great resource to bass players all over the world. I would really, really appreciate it if you would also produce a video wher you play fretless bass through the Genz Benz. Thanks again and "keep'em comin".
Bought this amp late this summer, find it interesting you niticed the same thing I did about playing different basses through it. I'm not in a situation that justifies owning it (except just "wanting" it) but it's a nice amp.
hi ed,from your experience do you think that there is a big difference between gbe750/1200 and the shuttle series,i played last night gbe750 and man it blow me away, great sound!i wanted to buy shuttle 6.0 and now i'm hesitating between these two amps.greetings from macedonia.
@borcemiovski - Yes, they are very different. They are two totally different design concepts, and they are voiced a little differently. The GBE has different midrange control, 3 bands of Mid instead of one band of sweepable Mid on the Shuttle. Of course, it's not small and lightweight like the Shuttle too. It's hard for me to describe the sound, but if you go back to my earlier reviews, I'm using a GBE 1200, so you can hear the tone of that amp and compare it to the Shuttle review. I like both.
I think my favorite combo would be a P bass with worn in steel strings through the 2x12 on the tube channel. Not to knock the tone of the Jazz at all, but I'm a finger style player and nothing beats a P bass for that.
@BassGuitarMag G,day Ed. I noticed you used a 4string bass for this review. Do you know if this rig reproduces the low B string nice & accurate??? Also..what do you think of Genz Benz in terms of reliability???
@delitemyheart - Hell yes! It does the B string proud. I just felt like playing my old Jazz, it's still the best sounding bass I own. I use this amp in all my videos, so you can hear it with several 5 strings if you like. Reliability has been great, and the customer service at GB is excellent.
@shibilski - 90% of the time I use a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0/12t, but when I need more I use the Shuttle 9.0 or Max 12 with the Uber 212 or Neoxt 212. All Genz, all the time!
@rickenbacker95 - Really? Listen for yourself - does this amp sound thin? I don't think so. Not to say that some idiot out there couldn't have bought one and made it sound thin... but that would take some work. I have several different Genz rigs, and thin is NOT a word I use to describe the tone. Awesome, yes.
Ed, big fan and subscriber here. In you shuttle 9.0 review, you mentioned the high pass filter being lower in frequency than the shuttle 6.0. How does the shuttle max amps compare with regards to their high pass filter? And maybe you weren't given these specs, but how does the lows sound to you compared to the 9.0? Thanks
Thanks to Ed, I no longer have to go to Bass Emporium to try out new basses and amps. I just watch his videos and buy them! No seriously, these really do help
if you like the Genz Benz for its clarity and warmth, you should definately try the Glockenklang amps as well, never played an amp as defined and clear as a Glockenklang. Good work though, makes me get an eargasm! :)
Very good review. High level. Good structured. Different angles. Smart to let hear multiple basses. My compliments for this good work and taken time, because it takes a lot of time, setting up and recording a good review..
@FatTomy - It might have been slightly out of tune.... I had the tape rolling, running out of time, just grabbed it and played! But also, a short scale with foam under the bridge will sometimes play slightly out.
Mr friedland, you have the best bass channel on youtube! great review as always! this one was too good to be free of charge... XD p.s your peanut precision sounded best of them all (for me). original bass sound!!!!! thank you very much.
I've got the SM 1200 and I absolutely LOVE It. I run it through a Mark Bass 6x10 via my Dingwall but after listening to that I am going to try the 12x2 and 4x10 set up if possible. Sounded fat!!! Great video Ed!

Ed!! My dream rig is a Gallien-Krueger, but I think you have changed my mind!! I love the way the Carvin sounded in this vid. I have a Carvin LB75 and use a Ampeg 100 combo amp at church. This sounds like the tone I've been searching for! Can't wait to get my hands on it!! (that's what she said!
I was wondering something, and I suppose it's a bit off topic but I need to ask a human....How do I set up my SR506's truss rods? Is only one acting as the truss rod and the other just for stability?
@zekuhryuh - Both truss rods are used to keep the neck straight - one for each side of the neck. If you have a wide fingerboard, it's helpful to be able to straighten each side as needed.
@BassGuitarMag Thanks for the info! This makes a ton of sense because the B-E-A side sounds pretty clean and has low action, whereas the D-G-C side gets quite choked/buzzed.

I found this video helpful for a number of reasons. It not only showed off the amp and cab but it is a good quick reference video on the way those different basses sound. It also demonstrates the difference between a 2x12 and 4x10 cab very well. Very well done as always.
