I read a review of this album that whined about the fact that there are too many lyrics squeezed into the songs! What a moron, this album is arguably the best set of lyrics they've ever sang! Apart from Conviction notice - I know they use that word a lot, but that was too much for me! Cool hook though.
This is such a badass album. One of my favorite songs from the album too. I have to agree with the comment about b is for b-sides. I love these guys.
this is my fave song of the album, its sounds like it should be in the last 3 songs of b is for b-sides =) wich rock and had the same sort of sound :). roger and buddy rock!
I'm not sure, but what it strikes me as is that it's about a multiple personality disorder, where the "Devil in [the singer's] DNA" is a genetic disorder, further reinforced by the line at about 0:59 "they say it's an imbalance of a chemical kind". The ideas are also reinforced because the singer is "blaming everyone else" but "never putting the blame on himself" for things he does, and ways he acts that his disorder leaves him with no control over. But then again, that's just my view. =]
Seems to me it's about a guy who realizes all the mistakes he's made and is looking for excuses. Is it just bad habit? Is it hereditary?
He ends the chorus with "Fact is I'm just a living sum of all my parts ", realizing that regardless of reason, the mistakes of the past are just a sum of what got him where he is.
