As always Lacotte's redo is vastly inferior to the original, and when no original exists (Sylphide, Pharoah's daughter) either boringly lacking in line (as here) or just plain ridiculous (men jumping up and donw on invisible pogo sticks).

Peut-on m'expliquer porquoi Thibaut n'a jamais été nommé danseur Etoile....Paquette a été un trés bon Premier Danseur mais ce n'est pas une Etoile et pourtant il a été nommé il y a 5mois(?!?!?)...Les mystères de la Direction de l'Opera sont impénétrables.

paris opera ballet is my favorite in the world, i dont think their students and dancers know how much other dancers would kill to be in that company since they really only take from their school. but their technique is superb and there isnt one dancer that isnt amazing!! thanks for posting

It is not completely exact.

The pupils of the school are alone to take the first examination, but the not provided places are offered to a second competition which everybody can present. So he can have members of the company there who do not arise from the school even if there is little in fact.

Amazing dancing from Emmanuel Thibault - the best I have seen this danced. Wonderful ballon, beautifully executed technique, phenomenal stage presence - he definitely should be an Etoile. I do agree though that, although these girls are good, Pankova and Sitnikova were better!

Emmanuel's ballon in this video is extraordinary as always, but what really shines here is his glowing command of the stage. He really deserves to be promoted, as he is in my opinion, one of the best examples of the French school dancing at the Opera today.

Music - this pas de trois was added to "Paquita" by Petipa when he revived the ballet for Ekaterina Vazem in 1881 in St. Petersburg. All of the music is by Minkus, except for the following: the 2nd part of the entrée (starts @ 1:09) is from Deldevez's original score; the male solo is by Adolphe Adam, taken from his score for Joseph Mazilier's 1845 ballet "Le Diable à quatre".

I actually like these Paris Opéra girls who are just doing steps. As a ballet learner, it is very interesting to watch them do their steps. They're doing very correctly - it's amazing to see for a learner.

It's unfair: Thibault is one of the best dancer of POB (and of the world actually), and he will probably remain "premier danseur" his whole life. His dance is so beautiful, perfect technically and moving at the same time. Alhtough his great intelligence and talent, he's nice and simple with people. An example for every dancer. A great guy! On t'aime Emmanuel!

With the women it's exactly the opposite:

Pankova & Sitnikova(Kirov) are dancing (beautifully), the Paris Opera girls are just doing steps (and not very well in this case)

If you base your judgement upon the recording made in the 90's (a DVD entitled "Kirov Classics" with the Paquita Grand Pas), I absolutely agree with you concerning the girls (Pankova and Sitnikova). As for the boys (Thibault here, Chicherin for the Kirov), I would say more or less same level, very high in a word, with a personal preference for Thibault who is an incredibly refined dancer, payaing attention to all details.

@sophinette75 My personal opinion is the French are better. They are more clean, although it appears the Russians are more overtly passionate. They both have great technique, but i feel the Russians aren't as clean. Lately, they arent what they used to be.
