When the Americans finally establish a stable government in Iraq, and Iraq is able to function relatively well by itself with it's own military and corruption at an all time low, the U.S will be able to move the troops back home.
If ever we get into a war with Iran, the one benefit, if I can boldly state so, is the fact that the Iranians are uniformed, and thus they will be easier to identify as an enemy or not. As in Iraq, the insurgents were not uniformed, thus harder to identify.
