BATTERY LIFE = 2 OR LESS HOURS. Pretty good laptop tho, ive had it for around a year, quite powerful, but it always FAILS. I must of had to completely wipe my hard drive like 3 times in a year cuz it gives up on life when the hard drive gets full. Other than that id say its a decent laptop, but i wouldnt buy it, i won mine ;)
This laptop is expensive for a 13 inch, around same price as mac. and it heats up easily, the built in fans are totally useless. and the touch pad is made of a glassy material and it is soooo hard to slide around. its like dragging ur finger on glass! worst laptop ever
@mrfullback39 Hi, it looks like the model of the HP Pavilion dm3 that you purchased has good Intel HD graphics included and you should be able to enjoy some of the games you mention. However, for optimal performance and experience we would recommend discrete (or dedicated) graphics. You may also want to check the system requirements for the games to be sure your configuration will support them. Thanks for your purchase!!
I really like this laptop, but my 1030wm always freezes after a couple of weeks. The easiest way to fix this is to just do a complete system recovery. There seems to be some update issues as well. Is there a way I can keep this laptop running well? I have updated virus protection and everything too, but after a couple of weeks, it just complete becomes a piece of shit and then I have to recover it again!
@ShermayneLor I'm not a tech support expert, but a colleague says that if system restore fixes it, it sounds like an issue with something else you're installing.
@12345652180 HP notebooks charge the battery while the notebook is plugged into an electrical outlet. Once the battery is charged, the notebook begins to use the electric power only and does not keep charging the notebook – you can notice this by hovering over the battery icon on the taskbar. So there is no real need to take out the battery, unless you will be using it plugged in for extended periods of time (like months at a time).
I'm thinking about getting this laptop for when I go to University. But I'm completely illiterate when it comes to computers. I would be transferring my itunes library to my laptop (around 30GB songs) would this laptop be able to withstand this? Or should I get an external hard-drive even though I have no idea how it works (because my mate told me that was best option).
@cheapoairsofter Yes, it’s definitely a good notebook for basic gaming. FYI, on the HP website we offer a few graphics options to give it an extra kick of power. Thanks for asking!
Saying that a 6 cell will get 10 hours of battery life is bull, that's a blatant lie unless the screen is completely turned off and then what's the point? :|
its easy get a optical drive for this installed and here u go anytime u need to burn cd just use the optical drive ... if not just use your desktop and convert the cd to files for this laptop and use daemon software to run the iso or the file for this ... congratulation you have successfully maintain the weight of 1.9kg all the while
I love my new toy/utility. It's light, keyboard feels sleek. The webcam effects are fun. Windows 7 is sweet. Great performance, fantastic resolution and comfortable design. Diggin the extended battery life. Overall, I'm very impressed with this device.
I was wondering, if this DM3 have a bluetooth or not. Also if it is of any good to be used with Adobe Master Collection package of softwares and thanks in advance.
i dont like to brag about my dm3 but, ok im lieing, i love talking about this computer, its very quick running every ap. i want it to, its got great battery life, its very thin and light, (~4lbs i think?) great video memory compared to ANY laptop at this price. it feels very sturdy and looks expensive, led's on toggle keys such as cap lock, num lock, mute button, and being able to turn off the touchpad is very nice as sometimes i tend to bump it while typing relocating the curser...
I must agree. I am an IT person by trade; so to be honest I wasn't expecting much. But as I sat there creating my recovery disks WHILE uninstalling the bloatware with absolutely no hiccups, I realized that the performance is rather nice.
hey you guys here... the ones who have this computer... do you think its a good computer? is it fast? light? easy to use? im concidering this computer.
you know, i havent tryed tf2 yet, but i have played many other games on it, urt2004 plays perfectly @ max settings, nfs2 underground plays perfect at almost max settings (have to turn off some of the lighting effects) quake4 plays perfect @ max settings, i dont see why it wouldnt be able to play tf2, but hey ill check it out and get back to you,
I just order mine today, cant wait for it to come in. By the way i did the reasearch for about two-weeks on laptops and this is one of the best for the price and with 4gs of ram and running windows 7. And its lightweight.
I also ordered one and will be compare it to a Dv4i with a Core i5 430m. That DV4i has mediocre build quality that made me file an RMA. If the DM3 is not too slow, I'll definitely keep it and use it for years.
just got this and its reaaly nice...it's a darker aluminum than I remember...def worth the price. It is a little on the heavy side for a portable ....a 11 or 12 inch wide would of been better.
i ordered mine at weekend. After researching the market I wanted either the Dell Studio 1555 or the vaio vgn nw11s, when I was just about to order I found the review of this new thing... Exactly what I was looking for! I can go to the university and take my notes with it much easier as with the other two, still can I play movies at home (speakers got a good review) and the battery is just great! it also comes with W7, what do you want more? Mac? of course they are the best ones: you got 1500Eur?
i saw this at the store and there's something about it where it feels cheap and it feels big. The dv2 12" was the perfect size and weigh. It sad they discontinued the dv2.
You guys are nuts, comparing this with the macbook. You get a mac for OSX, and for those who're going to bring up OSX86, well, let's just say I've done it and its not worth the effort.
Otherwise, at this price the DM3 is a steal. Its sounds like a good machine but please don't compare apples with oranges.
Too bad most ppl get a mac for the looks. Only a small group really need to run mac osx.
At my university, you need to have i.e. browser for certain applications, like live stream videos of lectures etc. All the mac owners run windows 7 at my university so, thats just the way it is.
Compatibility with printers is also a nightmare with the mac.. so...
@DjiEnn I say MAC computers sucks and are overly hyped. Everything a MAC can do can be done on a PC. Many things that PC can do can't be performed on a MAC.
I also wonder why does Apple emphasizes MAC's physical appearance and build quality all the time? It is because that OSX is really an inferior OS. It's very unintuitive and hard to use. Any one can try a MAC at a retail store and know what I am talking about.
My sister and uncle (both are computer noobs, big time) has a mac. They use it often to do office work, surfing and watching videos. No need to help them with anything at all.
Give them a windows notebook and they will bug me at least 1 time every month for troubleshooting.
I use OSX at work professionally. A lot of startups in the Bay Area also do so. Try developing apps for the iPhone on Windows?Just because you don't know how to use OSX doesn't mean it sucks. Besides, judging something based on your few minutes of hands-on is unfair. Not saying OSX is better than Windows. I've developed on the Mac, Windows, and different variations of linux. All have their strengths and their weakness.
I just bought this very computer. I am so excited. I can not wait to receive it. I put a lo-Jack in because my last one was stolen. I want to thank HP for making this possible. I am a loyal customer. I have always had the greatest in customer support. They highly back their products. This is a Christmas present to me from me. Happy holidays. Please consider HP for all your computer needs.
I wanted a macbook, but I think I'll get this instead. It's a lot cheaper, looks a bit more appealing (not as clean cut), and has much more hard drive.. for half the price. Quality of build might be different.
I wouldn't quite say that. Apple has a reputation for being green and innovative, as well as hip and modern. Name might not be something worth paying for, but if it's name has a reputation for things that you are attracted to, it is. DM3 is still a better deal though.
In general, if you are looking for a notebook to do a lot of gaming we would recommend the HP Pavilion dv6 with a quad core processor and discrete graphics. The only thing is the battery life is just approx. 3 to 4 hours depends how you used the backlight on the screen.
unless that everytihng is perfect.
