  • this guy was a fucking animal

    nothing but respect

  • I just discovered Eric. Amazing! So sad he passed...there will definitely be a void in the music world.

  • Anyone know the tuning?

  • @Djcwozza Looks like it Drop D, i need to try it on guitar to be sure :)

  • Is he playing with a bass player or playing the bass notes with his thumb

  • Just playing on one guitar, incl. bass lines.

  • Can someone tell me the name of this song?

  • Eric mentions the name of the song in the beginning.

  • Thanks

  • It means "This Little Piggy", according to Eric's words. He tells the audience this in the footage I have. I realize now that only the French tittle is mentioned in this Youtube video, so I figured I'd give the translation :)

He dedicated this song to some French guy who said Eric played like a pig, so it's basicly a joke directed to him, which is why he 'snorks' like a pig at the end as well.

  • Thanks for the translation...

  • in case you can't understand what he says, it's called "Ce Petit Cochon" ; )

  • @Heavywood It's called "Ce Petit Cochon." :-)

  • everythg song seems so easy to play thanks to his amazing skill..really a sad loss because I just love the way he played..

seems that thomas leeb will keep up this playing style anyway :o)

  • newton faulkner has a very similar style to him as eric taught him. although newton sings so its not as technically skilled but still bloody good!

  • Oh and buy the Acoustic Guitar Bible by Eric!

You won't need to buy anymore learning resources for a long time!!!

  • I was lucky enough to be taught by Eric for 2 years at ACM. You made sure you knew your music theory when you turned up to his classes!!!! He would crack the whip if you didn't!

But at the end of the class he would play a song, then read an extract from the Zen Book of Guitar and chill everyone out.

The most inspiring musician I`ve ever had the pleasure to meet, as well as be taught by!!

    RIP Eric

  • I remember reading some where that Eric looked around his class one morning and Thomas Leeb was sitting there, and that Eric pointed him out to the rest of the class, saying something to the effect that "He(Eric)was proud to have him in his class" and that he had his album, to which Thomas replied "Which one?"

  • can't remember if he said he was proud but the 'album' and 'which one' exchange did happen. was a pleasant surprise!

  • Ok, the "Proud" reference was probably a bit of artist license on my part, but I am Irish after all and we do tend to exaggerate a bit now and then..Ahem! (Cough!)

  • Hey Kenny, Gareth here.

I must agree, Eric was one of the most inspirational people I've ever met. A truly great human being.

  • Anyone up to transcribing this? It's so hard to keep track of what he's doing, and he seems to play fret and play notes with just his left hand..

I met Eric in Bath about 5 yrs ago, he was very cool, very happy and so talented. A bit of a hero I'd say :)

  • Excellent! -Derek

  • Eric was one of those lovely people you meet in life and one hell of a player I was privileged to meet!

  • skills....

  • I love this little piece. Terrific style. His performances will live forever in my memory.

  • btw this song is called 'ce petit cochon', is on with these hands.

  • the only irish fingerstyle guitarist ever to make it big. shame he's gone. would have loved to met him

  • Eric Roche I LOVE YOU!

    what a freaking legend!

  • ORDER THE DVD - ITS BEEN RE-RELEASED BY ACOUSTIC MASTERS!!

He was the best of guys - those who missed him live missed a lot - many imitators but he was the inspiration and the first.

Big love Eric wherever you are. xx

  • Gibbyone, does that dvd you mention include these performances at Tone Merchants NAMM too? Or is it mainly older material? Because this performance was in 2005, which, as I understand, wasn't long before he died.

  • Thanks for posting this - I love this song of Eric's. That was a fun night - Eric and I shared the bill with Guthrie Govan at Tone Merchants during the NAMM week.

  • Hey Thomas,

Thanks for replying. You're an impressive musician in your own right.
