@Patrick8200 he is right we were a republic. no where in the constitution does it even meantion democracy. the founding fathers knew that all democracys fall bc its mob rule. where as a republic is founded and rulled by law. in your case unalienable laws some of with were writen in the constitution. u should look at the differance between the 2 systems and also look at what the founders of this great republic said about the too. might be enlightening

@thenoorys Well your assumption is based on the unlikely scenario that a majority of the people are being tyrannical and evil (taking away human rights). In a representative democracy, as we can see here, only 1% need to be evil and corrupt.

It's far better to have a majority opposed to you than a minority oppressing you.

@thenoorys the founders wanted a constitutional republic, thats why they made one. i agree there was no way a direct democracy would work back or ever. its mob rule where 51% can dictate ove the 49%. this takes away the unalienable rights this country was founded on. i have thought critically beleive me, i know how currupt the politicans are and they need to be stopped. we should not stop then and then put in a system that can also take away human rights however.
