Mosley is both strange and fascinating, a tragic figure undone by his own ego and foolishness. He always claimed to be non-violent but the BU smashed their competition, rioted in the streets and attempted to duplicate fascism's success in Germany. But the UK's democratic institutions prevailed. When the Brits outlawed the uniforms and demonstrations, it was all over for the BU. If he had stayed in the political mainstream, Mosley could have been PM. Instead, he's a mostly forgotten footnote.

When I listen to MOSLEY speak, I can understand why some people believed in him, He speaks with such passion and conviction that even if staring defeat in the face he makes you feel that victory is still possible, Whether or not you agree or disagree with his polices, I cant help feeling that if only we could have some politicians now who could speak with such belief and enthusiasm.

This was Benito's only real written work discussing in depth what fascism was. As I read, I wrote. So you know it's all true to what Mussolini said.

@decomanify I didn't know that. The largest hall built in europe at the time. With the stands the BUF packed it to its capacity of over 10,000 the largest indoor meeting in the history of the world, in 1939 when we were at war too. Now is just used for conerts (max-7000). I was hoping we would break the record again one day, oh well.

The BUF was founded just a couple of years before the 1935 election and so mosley took the decision to not gamble all the party's money on the election which they were not ready for. the party stood 12 parliamentry candidates (on their own money) out of whom 9 came second place. Their vote in some constituencies was as high as 40%. Because of the war Britian went 10 years without another general election which was in 1945.
