From what i understand there are 6 different shades of blackness... it looks like the older girl that is being called white is the least shade black(all most white shade 6) remember that this girl shares chromosomes with a black father so the girl could never be white white. this is never addressed primarily because this topic is so tabu............So the media is content to call her white.

@SuperKojim, In thesis all mixed people could have a white child in case an egg/spematozoon brought only white genes from the white parent, but it's more possible the more distant the pure black ancestral is. Each generation mixed with whites, the hair gets more flexibility. The kids have already straight hair, which means the pure black ancestral is at least 4 generations ago. All the kids don't have enough black genes anymore to have children with African features; only marrying blacks.

@SuperKojim, If the girl can't be called white, you can't call the mixed father black, too. What you call "different shades of blackness" exist only in cold places. People who occupied the cold North Europe lost pigmentation (melanin), including hair and eyes, a protection against the sun rays. Most people who live in the latitudes between South Europe until South America (sunny) get some "blackness" because the skin reacts producing melanin to protect it. Race is genetic, not only the color.

@StMarciano, to be born brown in the whole American continent is also normal because many have African, Indian etc. not distant ancestry. But many have only European, Japanese etc. ancestry and get brown anyway taking often sun. When they go to live or study in cold places, they come back white because the skin stops producing melanin and renovate. See that Canadian Indians are much lighter. Now we can protect well ourselves against cold and sun wherever we live, but millennia ago people (cont.)

Now It's not necessary that our genetic changes anymore, but we still can adapt if necessary. White people living in Africa or any hot place won't have dark children (or the opposite), but can get tanned the whole time they live there. So I meant we can't identify the race only by the color because most can get brown in hot countries.

@ricebag, the brunette kids would be more "successful" living in a hot country because the pigmentation of color (melanin) is a protection against the sun rays. Certainly human life did not begin in very cold regions to permit survival and North Europe was occupied by Asians and other Europeans whose descendants lost pigmentation (also hair and eyes) and got very white because melanin was not necessary to survive there. Now sun is dangerous for them, who get very sunburnt (red), skin cancer etc.

@ricebag, I know it was not what you meant. Certainly the darker kids will feel more difficulties because of the color. I just wanted to call attention that only people who occupied cold regions millennia ago became very white, losing pigmentation, a protection against the sun. Africans needed much melanin to survive there. Even Canadian Indians are much lighter without sun compared with Indians in the whole continent.
In the rest of the sunny world to get color is a good, not bad thing.
