I was at this filming of ECT. The studios were near Stonebridge Park Tube Station in north west London, and on the North Circular Road. We sent away for tickets from Channel 4 and went to about three ECT's. Hawkwind were supposed to headline but a band called Warrior were given the top slot at the last minute. This version of The Right Stuff is just so awesome and remains my favourite Hawkwind Video.
If I remember correctly (I can't have been there, right...), they should have closed with Brainstorm but that got punted for the band that followed, the ultimately forgettable Warrior. Unremarkable metal dressed in costumes modelled on Klingon armour, or something like that. A criminal use of record company influence if ever there was one.
been a hawkwindite for over 25 yrs and still cant get enough of them.goin again to holme firth in april then devon in august, see you all there.onward flies the bird.
Good Stuff, i have the whole of the ECT series on VHS, trasfering it to DVD at the moment along with my entire 8000 odd hours taped off TV over the years.
You'll find the venom set if you type in "venom live 1985".Should be at the top. Smokin the right stuff eh? might end up getting this clip flagged. On a more serious note anyone know what kind of guitar dave is using?
If i remember correctly, they repeated this a week later, and cut out Brock's reference to "smoking the right stuff, you know" at the end of the song. Early eighties i'd say.
Angels of Death came from a studio album called Sonic Attack. The Right Stuff is actually a Robert calvert song. It came from an odd-ball album called Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters. Good luck with you Hawkwind adventures, for me Space Ritual was their finest moment. Huw had left the band by that point though. He has played on and off with them from day one I believe.
what would space ritual have sounded like if HLL had stayed with the band? We will never know......

Its a Gibson Howard Roberts. And a bloody lovely one too.

I've played Huw's Howard Roberts Fusion (MK1) and indeed it is a beauty. I offered to swap him my ES335 for it and he told me to fuck off! LOL
stratboy8 2 years ago
I might be wrong (and usually am), but I think Huw is playing a Gibson Blueshawk.

Blimey, Old Brock seems to be doing a Bryan Ferry impersonation! Calvert does it better - now where's my Captain Lockheed album?

I remember when this was on T.V, good clip of 80's Hawkwind.
Thanks for uploading
