Holy frick man that could be a pygmy octopus, stupid human! Those things are friggen nocturnal, you obviously didn't put too many things for the octopus to make a den out of. I can tell that octopus is REALLY stressed, either do your research or don't dump an octopus in a friggen 5 gallon tank filled with tap water like those kindergartens at petco!
he is chasing his reflection in the glass...my fish do it all the time...also, for those of you that think that is a mechanical octopus....that assumption would be correct.
and you have a phd in marine animal behaviour ? - well that's a load of rubbish you failed then ? I would'nt need a phd to know this Octopus is bored and unhappy it needs stimulation - if you have a phd you must know this surely ? they need toys - things to open with food inside - you may watch saltwater fish for a living but nothing is sinking in
@nwtampaguy34 actually. they live very long if they are happy. you just need a big enough tank. how do you think the octopus in the aquariums live so long?
@ryanw00dddddddd I have kept salt water aquariums for about 20 years now and know many people in the hobby and most will agree with me. This vid is not in a large public aquarium with professionals caring for it. Bet on it that it will die before two years.
@nwtampaguy34 i currently have a PHD in marine animal behavior, and if it is happy the octopus can live for up to 5 years. along with my PHD i personally own 11 fish tanks and have some of the most exotic fish for all of my studies. In my lab we have a mimic octopus names james, he has been alive for 2 1/2 years. Which leads me to my next point, It really does depend on the octopus. I watch exotic saltwater fish for a living, i know what i am talknig about.
@ryanw00dddddddd I dont need a PHD i am 42 and have talked to many people in the salt water fish keeping community for many years. I had my first salt tank when i was 6 my grandfather had set it up at his home and it was our tank. this was a long time ago maybe before you were born And i have many tanks also. How many tanks you have proves nothing. Everybody i have talked to said in the home avg life span is 2 or less years. I trust them. Petshops will sell you anything and tell you anything.
@ryanw00dddddddd also to add to that i have talked to people at the John Shed Aquarium and they said the same. I am only talking about in the avg home not a big public aquarium or the lab where these animals are properly kept. Eveybody comes on youtube to research and most do it because they want it. Just giving the best info i got and recieved from many people.
@nwtampaguy34 No,most Octopuses die within 2-3 years or less.It doesn't matter if they are in captivity or in the wild. Some even die within 6 months or more.
@nwtampaguy34 Most asian people dont care about that.. like they kill whales and dolphins and dont even care about finning sharks and kill them.. disgusting..
Hey yall haters, dont post till youve done a little bit of research. there are several pygmy octopus species such as o. mercatoris that would have all hte space they could possily need in ten gallons. all the information you could hope for on the topic is on TONMO.com
@Whadduuuuup why would you say that you son of a bitch its a living animal why wouldnt you care about it and also learn the plural for octopus before you open your mouth
Octopi generally need 40-50 gallons minimum to grow to full size. Not only that, but if the octopus inks itself, a large water change must be done to protect it.
i think dude you need a bigger tank i like the octopussy 007 octopus beautiful but deadly its venom can kill a man in 30 seconds and there is no ante venom so respect and they are one the coolest animal in the word and the very most protecting loving mothers that die for there young its sad but they do there job as a good loving protecting mother
Here comes the fricking tang police.
