I've watched a few video's making flexible molds, love your idea as it's super easy. I noticed that some use baby oil or vasaline to stop the mold sticking. thanks for the tutorial.
@MalicePunk I'm sure it has. I'm not taking full credit for this idea, but if you do find out from this video I'd appreciate it (although I'm not going to track you down if you dont). It just helps with people finding out my channel, that's all.
Many people thought of this idea before too- I hope they all have fun making the molds.
@TheMay1010 The tube is actually filled with silicone caulking. You can buy this at any hardware store in clear or white - in this one, I'm using clear. You have to buy another part that enables you to use the tube of silicone, which is called the caulking gun. The caulking is pretty inexpensive compared to the sculpey mold making kit. All you do is attach the caulking tube to the gun and push on the lever at the end. Hope this helped!
Hey, I've been working with silicone alot a good tip I can give you that would make this tutorial a lot easier is to dilute some washing-up liquid with water (you just need a little bit) and then the silicone won't stick to your hands or surface where you put the liquid. (At least the silicone here in Sweden does, I assume it's the same with yours)
If you put some of the liquid on the item you are molding it probably won't deform your mold when you pop the item out. :)
@attac Thanks for the tip! I tried that out before, but I just found that it takes a little longer to dry in that situation. Any suggestions on drying?
And about the liquid on the item, thanks! That's really helpful! :DD
@paigesterXOXO I had the idea quite a while ago, but I dont think it'd be easy to do so because youd want to put the silicone in a mold and usually molds are made out of a silicone-based materal.
hey, i thought of this last year (: except i used white silicone lol. i asked my dad to buy me silicone for deco den and when i used it , it dried squishy and i took my peices off and saw it made the mark ^.^ great minds do think alike! lol
Cool! I Tried This At Home A long Time Ago but Ihtt ripped (The Mold) So Thnx For Making This Vid!:D this Doesnt Need Like Too much Stuff Like Thee other Vids Need :)))
Silicone molds are something regularly used in SFX and sculpting art (however, there's special kinds of silicone used, of different thickness and even textures). I definitely congratulate you on discovering this use of cheap silicone yourself :)
One advice: if you want really round molds, pouring silicone into a round cookie cutter is the best way to achieve that. It would dry a bit longer though, but will be very professional looking.
you lucky americans, and 800ml bottle here is $12 dollars, mostly because all our silicone is imported, so I guess I am going to stick with mold putty. ( i am in new zealand)
@m0ship0t Haha I guess we are lucky! If mold putty is cheaper, I'd definitely use that. Silicone is just a substitute because its cheaper in the Americas/Canada. :)
@NerdyYuki thanks for watching my video :) It doesnt have to be clear! I mentioned somewhere in the video about coloring the silicone with acrylics, but i havent had any success with the acrylic drying thoroughly on the inside so that the item im molding it will come out perfectly - which is odd because usually acrylic paint is suppose to dry out the silicone.
BRILLIANT!You are truly genius !I am gonna try mixing polymer clay and silicone just to see if it works like mold maker! Thanks for sharing your great Ideas! You rock !
Hmmm im not sure if the two substances can mix together, but you can try it! :)
I know that when you heat your clay, the water evaporates and the clay goes through a chemical reaction that makes it a new substance containing silica and alumina, and silica is actually a mixture between silicone and oxygen (silicone dioxide), so it actually might work. Oh and silicone CAN be put in the oven for short periods of time. Try it out and tell me how it goes! :) <3
@TheMilklover3 It worked great! :) Sorry, ill put that in the description bar. :)
I thought it wasnt done, but it was :O So i waited a lot more than i could have! I guess its all about playing with it and just testing it every once in a while if its dried or not :D
Haha thats cool i hod this idea and i tried it before i saw this and it didnt work :( but then after i saw this video it made it better so i tried using your method and now it works :D :D :D
Sculpey will work if the item is thin. If the 3D item is thick, it wont work. As for silicone, I'm not sure - but try it on some fake nails (the ones you glue on your nails). The chemicals in silicone are bound to be bad for your skin.
sculpeymoldmaker sucks don't everbuy it. it is ok for like 2 days then it hard as polymer clay and it also is hard to use cuz its soooo soft before baking and sticky when you try to make the mold the item sticks to it
@nerdycreations12 By all means, go ahead! I forgot to mention that you can always put acrylic paint in the silcione as well to make it different colors-However I havent been successful in doing so because it doesnt try properly, But all in all, yes, you can use white silicone :))
@EverythingWithAnna sweet! :) Great minds think alike then, huh? ;) I promised to make this tutorial so long ago but I never got the chance/got lazy! Haha :)
Noo, i just had a clear one handy, but you can use any color! (My experiences with mixing acrylic paint in them werent too well... doesnt really dry and stays sticky). Umm most silicones dont dry very hard, so im sure itll still be flexible. :) If anything, itll be just slightly less flexible, but still very good. :)
@CreativeCrafty I promise you I've thought of this myself without any inspiration! :O Haha hot glue dries nice and hard, but the item would stick to it! :)
@StrawberryDrizzles I probably will because i got clear silicone instead of white :/ now i know what to do with it besides color it white and use it for decoden :D and yea with the hot glue mold you have to use a buttload of powder so it won't stick :P (and i use cold porcelain with it) but it is SUPER flexible :)
Haha that's the only reason why I'm doing it with the clear silicone! :) We bought our house 3 years ago and had some laying around that's clear, so I decided to do something with it. :) I'll also make another tutorial on how to make some pendants or coasters with clear silicone when I get some cute things I can decorate it with. :)
Wow, so this hot glue gun thing works? Please make a video I'd love to see it! :D Both this and the hot glue gun ideas seem really flexible - I'm surprised no one
this was half helpful and half like...oooookay... you should have filmed the finished result. like taking it out, if it worked, etc
