huh I don't remember this one. I like the bright colors. Kinda strange to have Namor and Hawkeye as side characters. You'd think they'd put in Johnny Storm and Daredevil since they're close friends of Spider man. Speaking of DD why didn't he have any brawler games? Considering his backstory he'd be perfect for it!

He's an urban ninja that fights a clan of ninjas and plenty of thugs with other super baddies thrown in as bosses. It'd be perfect for a beat em up! Damn Marvel get it together

No kidding. I would have picked people Spider-man actually hangs out with a little more often. Granted, he is technically an avenger, but he doesn't go to the meetings much. I don't know who I'd have picked for the fourth slot either, but I can tell you it wouldn't have been hawkeye.

@mytruepower2 Daredevil would have probably played too similarly to Black Cat, IMO. I'd have picked the Punisher and the Human Torch, but I can give them props for using Hawkeye and Namor. Namor especially, as he's one of Marvel's classic characters who often gets overlooked in their video games.

Hawkeye's already been in a playable action game, but the Human Torch isn't a bad idea. At least he and spidey are sorta friends. The only thing Spidey and Namor really have in common is that both have clobbered the Fantastic Four, as far as I can tell, and I'll bet they could find a way to make Daredevil play different if they really wanted to.

@Mr523cbg Doom is part of Spider-Man's group of villains as well, but he doesn't deal with Spider-Man too often as he's a world-level threat; he and Spidey actually fought during Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's original run on the Amazing Spider-Man comic book during the '60s.

One thing has always bugged about this game, why were Namor and Hawkeye in it? I mean, there are a lot of other characters they could have used with stronger connections to Spidey, like Daredevil or the Human Torch for example.

Why does this game's version on MAME have a bug. When you save it, then close emulator and load it in second time, it has a lot of glitches. This program made from my favorite 3-rd level piece of crap.

I know what you mean. This game isn't 100 percent emulated so the problems you are running into stems from that. But it is somewhat an accomplishment to even be able to play the game since it is a very hard game to find and from what I heard, hardly any of the up to date emulator play this game.

Very good question honestly. I think it would take a bunch of other shoes to drop before we get to this game. It maybe a licensing thing or just need a high demand. Either way, I think once you see other games like Simpsons and AvP get released, you could see this come out as once.

Oh man, the memories of spending around $10 worth of quarters on this nutty game! Although I never understood why Hawkeye was used for this game, especially since he never took on the Kingpin in the comic books...wouldn't Daredevil be a more appropriate choice for a partner?

Oh, and I find it funny that Hawkeye was in two Marvel beat em up games that came out at virtually the same time (This and Captain America and the Avengers)

I remember playing this game in the arcades for the first time. I didn't really read the comics yet so I didn't know that many of the villains except for maybe Kingpin and Green Goblin. I remember when Venom first showed up I was all "Who is this guy?! He's big, and huge, and dark, and has sharp teeth, and...... OMIGOD, HE CAN TURN INTO A GIANT!!!!!!!"

I remember being so disappointed upon finding out he didn't have that power in the comics....

Spider-Man for the arcade kicks ass, and it's definitely the best Spider-Man game made of all time. I have this game for the arcade, as I have the PCB it to use in my Jamma cabinet. It's too bad it never got ported though, and probably ever won't, due to licensing issues, and all.

There is no real difference in the gameplay between the 4 characters. The only difference is their special abilities and even that was mostly just visual.

I will agree with you on MaXimum Carnage never had a chance to play Seperation AnXiety I was just gettin back into comics when that game came out but I remember it a bit..anyways I think this game was one of tha best Beat Em ups tho just played it tha other night @ tha fair I made it to like tha Green Goblin level on a dollar! It was something about MC that had me interested from tha beginning wish they would retool it for tha PSN or XBL

This one was a quarter sucker too... your health actually counts down, not only when you're hit or use your "super power" (in the "zoomed in" sections), but also just with the passage of time! (like 4 player Crime Fighters, Xybots, or Gauntlet series).

@TyG2k9 Favorite one I've played. I love 2-D art. It's a lot of work to make everything you see in pixels. The characters are huge in this game. I've been animating & designing for over a decade, and the last 5 in video games.

I work with a very demanding art director. So no, I don't consider my standards low. Ask anyone I know; heck most people here in the comments on YT. They should agree. Take care- it's cool man.
