  • Hello, Never soldered before, Complete ameture, but I'm going to attempt to replace a Plc-44 Chip on an old board soon, When soldering the chip back onto the board, did you somehow apply solder to the prongs of the chip? or did you just place the chip and use the heat laser thing to solder it back, also what is that heat laser? a heat gun?

  • @BansheeFnd good luck if youve never soldered before haha. might want to use the "cold heat" soldering iron... good for noobs. wouldnt reccomend it to anyone else though

  • what is the song? sounds awesome

  • the only thing i can argue about this vid is using your finger to clean up the mess, don't giving a damn about ESD, but maybe he's wearing an anti ESD shock bracklet.

  • @AlawiGMX nope, he's doing quite well.

what it seems traces and stuff is just epoxy.

  • genious dude

    thanks!

  • How to remove ATI IXP 450,if doesn't have pins

  • @otamanlvhs If it dosn't have pins it may be a BGA or QFNL chip. Search on YT for BGA resoldering (it also works for QFNL).

  • @Nokalit Thanks a lot.

  • do i hav to use background music to remove epoxy resin? !!!

  • omg, i loose an little capacitor

  • This just shows how futile the epoxy found on most blu-ray player motherboards is. The idea is to protect the unencrypted data stream, but it's apparent that the epoxy is easy to remove. When will they learn...?

  • so doesnt the chip get toasted when you apply the heat..

  • @yamaha4759 Well you see, the chips are designed to handle temperatures exceeding 240 F, and here you're only heating to 120 max. However, exceed that 240, and say goodbye chip.

  • @2Pyroz

Wrong. You heat this up to 120C. Electronic temps are always measured in C. 120C is hotter than 240F.

  • @shtewps You obviously didn't read what I said. The melting point of the chip, not the resin. (9/5)*Tc+32 Have an equation on conversion. The point of the comment was to be careful and don't damage the chip. Geez.

  • @2Pyroz

Sorry Pyroz.. Didn't mean to offend.

  • cool ... a new way for me to remove the pieces

  • oops just found it

  • cool!

good sound too, is it Kowalski?

  • You probably ended up frying the flash chip in the process.

  • Can't you just heat it up and then use a solder-sucker to remove the resin?

  • А получше видео сделать никак ? .

  • Looks like a board from a Hitachi/Liteon Xbox 360 disc drive.

  • You'll find it much easier to resolder the chip if you clean the pads using isopropranol and apply some flux first.

  • Won't it short out if you crossed some of the pins, they're too close for comfort?

  • cool video but i think the tool you are useing is too sharp to be useing like that..

there is a big chance you damaged some of the traces on the board, not to mention the leads on the chips.

but.. i must ask.. what kinda tool did you use to heat all the component leads at the same time?

  • dude, that was clean and smooth. i give you props on your mad skills.

  • Ohh thanks for the tip about a heatgun for epoxy. Not working on the same circuit board as you here but that epoxy glob shit is so annoying, tried it and this worked great paired with an exacto-knife. :D

  • could this methid be used to depot a flyback transformer?

  • dude don't freakin do that u'l destroi the board first u'l cut one of the traks with that scalper and second use ESD gloves those are integrated circuits sensitive to electrostatical discharges ......oh my gash

  • Nice vid and I really like that music.Wouldn't mind knowing which artist and which song.

  • woot naice~ i neda do this wit my xbox XD swapping out the new TSOP wit old one.. dun wanna flash n get banned lol

n would it be the same for the clear epoxy?

  • Lo mejor de este mundo asi sea uno muy estudiado es ser una persona ajil de penzamiento, y utulizar la ingeneria intuitiva

  • dose this work for e 74 error ???????????

  • Wow impressive man, im gonna do some chip removals.

  • wow just wow.... thanks for this video man , now I can remove somechips more eazy!

  • Excellent, I thought although method 2 was the most impressive, method 1 was the most ingenious. Excellent. Still wondering about when you were reapplying the solder, how you didn't end up with bridged tracks.

  • @fronkenpoop Flux core solder

  • so wrong.... why you use a scalp instead of hard brush?!

  • all my 40 yrs in electronics I never thought it was that easy? I was scared to removed them... wow very glad to learn?

  • Wow....

    this is Very Help-full.....

  • wow, I thought that this epoxy would be made to be harder to remove. Since they usually apply it to protect the circuit from being copied or modified.

    Nice job, good vid

  • makes me wonder why they even bother putting that stuff on.

  • Very nice Work and congartulations for this video ;)

    It seems so easy :)

  • ok im in the prosses of making a nes portable, i need a soldering and desoldering gun, would either the first or second work for me?

  • Oh, man this is amazing.

  • Comment removed

  • It s a gaz soldering iron , you can find in any specialized shop

  • its called a heatgun you fuckstick.

  • Dimethoxyethane will allso desolve and remove epoxy resin with little effort, Though the stuff is toxic and i have no clue what it would do to the green coat of the PCB.

  • wow you make removing that chip look so easy, same for soldering it back on. Nice work, thanks.

  • U are a Warrior :D

  • LOL!

    Step 2...

You just torched the WHOLE DARN THING and pulled it right off >.>.

LOL! I find that highly amusing XD.

  • Finally..

a way to remove the mess from my Wii that Nintendo left..

    and mod the thing...

  • quuestion here. Whats thifs for?

  • Installing a special chip on your xbox to play copy games

  • Question here. Aren't you worried about lifting a SMD component or worse a pad with picking away the epoxy resin like that?

  • XD should have thought of that. i picked out somethin, but im not sure what its for or if i need it at all. o.0

  • just a question is that the pyropen torch add on your using to desolder the SMD chip?

  • yes, it is a pyropen. but usually a small torch also works just use it with care so that you don't get yourself burned :)

  • wtf was the point of taking out the chip if you are just going to put it back it ?

  • diy, how to change a chip... duh

  • wtf i when does he grab a new chip, and where do u get it from

  • the point is to reprogram the chip wtf lol xd omg fuck it.

i pointed it out below already, never mind.

  • Timmie you're ridiciulously dimwitted.

  • STFU like i need to do this, how do u flash the TSOP like a simple question where do u get the chip, or is he just takeing it out so u can mod it ?

  • like I said...

  • what's that heat gun used to 'solder' the TSOP chip back onto the board? I had a look, but couldn't find anything like it on the net

  • wow tou make it look so easy.

  • what's reflash?

  • rewriting / overwriting / changing the software inside the chip

  • ok thx... but its not nessecairy to take this TSOP away? (Sorry my english isnt very good.^^)

  • look, this was an xbox360 on the video. I did not made it, but since it shows very well how to remove the epoxy resin, once I found it again, I out it up here. As for the xbox, the method in the video is not necessary at all now, thanx to the guys who made iXtreme (1.5 latest) firmware available. All you need is some screwdrivers, and a pc with sata ports, the rest is child's play, even a "dummy" can do it - that's why the lots of ads, try google for "ixtreme1.5" you'll see...

  • ok thanks a lot for your reply. Other question:

When you warm up the epoxy resin, the other things on the board will melt or break down?...

  • that's why you have to be really careful... all those resistors, etc. can easily melt if they are close. if that's your first, you should try it on some other pcb board which can be discarded after.

  • Really great :)

  • You're my god!!!!

  • Because the TSOP needed to be reflashed

  • Very informative.

I don't understand why you desoldered the TSOP only to resolder it. Is this necessary for some reason?

  • kool
