  • I don't appreciate the fact that my tax money (NC tax money) is being used to cruelly murder unwanted pets. This is disgusting. NC also kills twice as many cats. Why are cats not featured in the video?

  • The North Carolina DA squandered taxpayer money in a shameless attempt to punish PETA for exposing that NC taxpayers fund the gruesome gassing deaths of 100,000 shelter animals every year at a cost of $40 million, while PETA was providing their state's shelter animals humane and painless euthanasia for FREE.

  • @CDLver That's like Evil vs Eviler. PETA loves putting down healthy companion animals. They can't get enough of it. They'll lie, cheat and steal to get their hands on healthy pets to kill. (All this came out in a trial of 2 PETA employees.)

  • @LittleManine, what came out at trial was that PETA provided FREE and HUMANE euthanasia services to the community for animals whose guardians chose to not suffocate their companion animal to death in a NC shelter gas chamber, but to give their animal a painless and dignified release with a single injection into the leg.

Once that fact was revealed, the jury found PETA employees not guilty of 3 felony counts of obtaining animals by false pretenses and not guilty of 8 counts of animal cruelty.

  • @CDLver Ahoskie Animal Hospital surrendered a momma cat and two kittens to Hinkle and Cook (the defendants). An employee of the hospital said, "You'll be able to adopt these cats out. We've socialized them, we've played with them, they've had their shots, everything's fine with them." Hinkle replied: "We'll have no problem finding homes for these cats. None at all." Guess what happened to the cats.

What came out at trial was PETA would spend more money on lawyers than on getting pets adopted.

  • @LittleManine you conveniently fail to mention that PETA was ASKED and graciously provided FREE humane euthanasia to shelter animals who would've otherwise died via suffocation in gas boxes or have taken a bullet to the head. Patrick Proctor, owner of the Ahoskie Animal Hospital claimed that PETA killed healthy cats, was on PETA's payroll for years performing HUMANE euthanasia at the Hertford County Shelter, where animals had previously been gassed

  • @CDLver "In 2001, we put money in our budget to pay Dr. Powell for the euthanasia method of putting these unclaimed pets to sleep," Lamb said. "It wasn't long thereafter that PETA became interested in selective animals at our shelter. A short while later they began taking all the animals." - Hertford County Manager Zee Lamb

The animal hospital handed over those 3 adoptable cats in 2005, hoping they would get happily ever after. PETA killed them the same day and left their bodies in the trash.

  • "Hertford County has an agreement with Ahoskie veterinarian Dr. Patrick Proctor to enthanize unclaimed pets following a mandated 72-hour waiting period. Proctor confirmed the agreement, saying he had been performing that service for the past few years. He said PETA pays for his services based upon documentation he provides to the animal rights group."

Hertford County was gassing their shelter animals to death until PETA hired Dr. Proctor to perform the single injection euthanasia method.

  • @CDLver If PETA is paying Dr. Proctor to perform this service, then why were they coming to the shelter and picking up ADOPTABLE animals that they then killed in the back of their van? Why were they picking up healthy animals from an animal hospital where employees had socialized them, fixed them, and given them their vaccinations? Why did they lie about their intentions? Why did they killed a healthy six month old puppy, among other healthy, adoptable animals?

  • @LittleManine, Proctor was paid by PETA to euthanise animals at the Hertford County shelter once day per month. When the shelter could not house the large number of abandoned and sick animals to be euthanised, Hertford County called PETA to come and pick them up, which PETA did for a year before, taking the animals to their vet in Norfolk at their building headquarters, where the animals would be euthanised and the bodies stored in a freezer to prevent decompostion before cremation.

  • You don't want to talk about why PETA picked up animals from North Carolina's Hertford, Bertie, or Northampton County shelters, where 100,000 animals are gassed every year.

PETA didn't take, steal, or act deceitfully regarding the animals' disposition, nor was PETA attempting to conceal the fact that they provide humane single injection euthanasia to animals who would've otherwise been gassed to death in a metal box struggling to breathe for 30 minutes until the poison suffocated them.

  • @LittleManine, what North Carolina County Commissioner Zee Lamb didn't say was that Bertie, Hertford, and Northampton Counties were suffocating their shelter's animals to death 10 at a time for 30 minutes in gas boxes, which, incidentally, were designed, manufactured and sold by NC vet Dr. Ralph Houser, who sits on the board of the NC Rabies Control.

A vet who profits from the sale of animal suffering is why corrupt NC Commissioners won't ban the gas chamber. Period.

  • @CDLver All of which has nothing to do with PETA's criminal actions. At the time PETA took the healthy cats from the animal hospital from an employee, which I doubt was Lamb or Houser or anyone from the board, the local shelter offered euthanasia injections. But euthanasia wasn't necessary because the cats were healthy and ready for adoption. PETA killed them without attempting to get them adopted. The animals vets examined from that dump (one of many dumps) were healthy, adoptable and dead.

  • @LittleManine, PETA did not take healthy cats from the Ahoskie Animal Hospital owned by vet Patrick Proctor, who was on PETA's payroll paid to humanely euthanise animals at the Hertford County shelter, where gassing was taking place.

At trial, Dr. Proctor testified: "I told Reesie [Teresa Ray] that it was time for us to go ahead and move them [the three cats], so you can go ahead and call PETA."

Proctor wanted the cats out of his office, so he let PETA do his dirty work.

  • @CDLver PETA's "Animal Record" report for 2010, filed with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services: 2,345 animals received by PETA, 63 transferred, 44 adopted (1.86%), 2,200 (93.8%) killed.

“In the end, I think it would be lovely if we stopped this whole notion of pets altogether.”

"...companion animals would be phased out, and we would return to a more symbiotic relationship – enjoyment at a distance.”

    - Ingrid Newkirk

  • @LittleManine Said in the context of, and in response to PETA's position on puppy mills and nefarious animal breeders.

"PETA doesn't oppose pet ownership in and of itself, we oppose puppy mills who breed 1000s of animals in inhumane conditions where they are underfed, confined to cages, and neglected."

  • In 2010, 15,069 animals came through PETA's door. Of that number, 10,500 received FREE vet services, including sterilisation, and were taken home by their guardians. PETA provided a dignified and humane release to 3, 630 fatally injured and/or, terminally ill dogs, cats, and other companion animals (rats, birds, mice, rabbits, ferrets) at no charge to their guardian.

    Now you have the facts.

  • @CDLver Many organizations offer free or cheap vet services on a shoe-string budget. And many other organizations get pets adopted instead of killed. PETA has MILLIONS, but can only manage to get 44 animals adopted in a year? I found accounts of individuals who couldn't keep a pet giving it to PETA believing that PETA really cares about animals so their pet wouldn't be killed. They were devastated when the media reported PETA's kill rate during the trial.

  • @LittleManine, please refer me to or cite your source for "accounts of individuals who couldn't keep a pet giving it to PETA believing that PETA really cares about animals so their pet wouldn't be killed. They were devastated when the media reported PETA's kill rate during the trial."

Animal guardians bring their companion animals to PETA not because PETA is an adoption agency, but because PETA provides FREE and HUMANE euthanasia to those who cannot afford this service at a private vet.

  • @CDLver I already dug up several of the articles I read when I was researching PETA's killing of healthy, adoptable animals. I read a whole lot more than that. But facts roll right off your back and revisiting this issue makes me ill. Obviously, I can't stop thinking about that momma and her two kittens. Cared for and prepared for adoption by the shelter, given to an "animal rights" group in good faith. And PETA keeps killing, but they've gotten smarter about dumping the victims. Over and out.

  • Funny thing about you "PETA kills animals" folk is that while you wave your finger in PETA's face for providing 2,200 dogs and cats and 1,430 other companion animals (birds, ferrets, gerbils, rabbits, rats) a humane release in 2010, you make no mention of the 100,000 shelter animals in North Carolina who are still being gassed to death every year.

No, you don't want to talk about the root of the problem. You just want to talk about the 3, 630 animals PETA humanely released from suffering.

  • Animals were bred in a way that prevents them from being true hunters that wolves and coyotes are. I understand the need for taking care of them. But, population control is needed for them. I like Sarah McLaulin's music, She's a nice lady (I spoke to her once in San Fran) but there are tons of people on the streets. It's also trendy to adopt African or Asian babies. What about in North America or the USA itself? Lets help animals and not people. Lets help global neighbors and not local. -Copter

  • Post this on the White House site on Facebook!

  • Also what does Nazi Germany have to do with the inhumanity going

on in this Shelter?? I guarantee you the Monsters in that Shelter

were all from North Carolina .... not a German among them.

There are more Compassionate folks in Germany!!

  • North Carolina needs to bring in The Humane Society to monitor these shelters.

Shelters?.... Hell is closer to what is going on here.

Do they even TRY to adopt these animals?? I bet if that beautiful yellow lab had been transferred to another Shelter he could

have been adopted ... easily. This is so sad, heartbreaking!

  • I watched this all through and it makes me feel ill. I have two dogs both save from kill shelters but we can all only do so much I can't stop crying. Savannah looked like my boy Max

  • OMG, WHAT A WORLD.

  • I would not leave a gutter rat at a North Carolina taxpayer-funded death camp.

100,000 abandoned shelter animals meet their gruesome end EVERY year in North Carolina, a state that still suffocates their animals to death in gas boxes.

    Shame on North Carolina's legislature!

  • So horrible and heartbreaking !! How can people do this to these helpless animals, my heart is crying and I wil NEVER understand this cruelty, my God, what is going on in this rotten world !! It's a HOLOCAUST for the animals, shame on you North Carolina !!

  • That is a horrible video. I mean you did a good job, but the contents of it are horrible. That son of a bitch looked like he enjoyed his job. That place should be shut down and those people who work there should be crippled.

  • The workers at this concentration camp and oven will be lucky if they go to Hell.I think that a much worse fate will catch up with them. When they scream for help they will know how it feels to be surrounded by sadists and torturers. If this America then I pity all of us.

  • This is one of the worst so called shelters in this country. This man kills before even trying to find homes. All he cares about is his paycheck. I think he makes a bonus on the amount of kills each week. Need to replace with someone who actually cares for animals.

  • How can anyone human kill our most helpless friends?

    Shame on you North Carolina!

Shame on anyone who turns their animal into a kill "shelter"!

  • And the republicant who is running for governor in Illinois introduced a bill, just this year, to bring communal gassing back to Illinois--such a nice guy.

  • How can anyone human kill our most helpless friends?

    Shame on you North Carolina!

Shame on anyone who turns their animal into a kill "shelter"!

  • those people r disgusting

  • I'm seriously sick to my stomach.

  • that kills the people too.. You give these people your unwanted animals.. What do you think happens..? Nothing because you don't see it..?. BUT THIS KILLS US ALL... The spirits of us who take care of the animals that you left.. the spirit of the children that want to help, but really r only children or the grown ups, that do not have the money..but do have love for animals..and the space...continued....

  • @superbeauthy - Yes. It does.

  • I haven't cried this hard since my Dad died, this is heartbreaking. I just adopted 2 cats from the Columbus N.C. shelter, 2 weeks ago. I had no idea they could be so cruel. This video makes me want to save the rest of them!

  • I'm beyond upset! Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I am going to write everyone that needs to be written to regarding this hell. I couldn't watch anymore then 1:13 without getting hysterical. It's barbaric.

  • @berrygoodstuff if you need a list of emails i have them all for North Carolina thank you

  • Great job on this video! Definitely sharing. We're on the right track now that heartstick has been banned; next step, no more gas chambers.

  • excellent and every word the truth......these atrocities MUST STOP ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES AND THE WORLD..these babies did not ask to be born into this. Man, in his infinite wisdom, has decided the ONLY answer to over -population is murder. We must all fight to end this and end it now and become a NO KILL NATION! It is achievable, it is altruistic, it is humane. THERE CAN BE NO OTHER WAY-NO OPTION- NO CHOICE ! NO-KILL!

  • Savanna was not gassed "by mistake." Grace and Davie are not miracles, they are survivors. Billions of unwanted pets are destroyed in North America annually. If this society can't respect the bond we have with our companion animals the time has come to stop the bizarre need to have cute little animals share our hearths. We don't deserve them.

  • It is unbelievable that since 1997 many in this community have voiced their indignation and their disapproval about this horrific way of killing animals at tax funded pounds and shelters. The State of North Carolina has non-the-less ignored even international pleads to stop such atrocities and continues torturing the animals while they are being destroyed. Is this not considered animal cruelty?

  • excellent job telling a shameful truth.

  • I am heartbroken watching this.

  • That was intense, I'm speechless. Not for long!

  • oh my what a wonderful video this has given me goose bumps ....wow girl
