the problem with japanese sensei, is they are very strong and spectacular, but they know only a part of karate.. good technic, fast.. good flexibility. but about bunkai, this the real thing, the karate is self defense... so the bunkai should be effective, but they dont know about that.. their bunkai are not effective... when you are sandan or higher and that you seen some other style or sensei and you are not blind about japanese, we can see the truth about that.... NO OFFENSE.. thanks
Osu,If you do not know, this is Kancho Kanazawa 10th Dan.He is 79 years old now.He is a great legend. He has stidied many Goju Ryo Kata's as well which are not screening on the youtube.Written many books followed by many DVD's.A man of great wisdom and understanding.2nd dan in Judo and leading one of the most strongest Shotokans organization in the world.
@SKIFTIGER I know that.. I did many seminars with him under SKIF... I am shotokan... but when I was young, and white, yellow or green belt, as many.. there had just japanese no one else.. but later.. we are black belt shodan, nidan, sandan etc.. and the japanese are still great, but they teach still the same thing... basics only, gyaku zuki, gedan barai.... make heian shodan or kanku sho, it'S the same thing, kanku sho is not harder... no explination and if so.. nothing to do with the real
with the real fight, just good against another karateka in the dojo, against a oi-zuki or mae-geri.... the shotokan kata can be really effective in the street, but we need to know how use that.. but the japanese do not teach that, maybe they dont know.. again no offense, just my opinion based on my own experience
@karatekid68 Hi. Well actually as we all know Kata is fighting imaginary opponents, and by performing Kata over and over again, and by imagining the situation you are in while doing the Kata, the movements start becoming reflexes... so when someone hits with a knife u can use Yokogeri Keage to defend urself and then use your elbow to break his arm... then maybe use shoto-uke to knock him down... In the street you'll be unconscious, Kata heps you maintain a certain amount of consciousness...
kancho kanazawa style is quite different at times from other shotokan masters. However he has tremendious powers. He is 76-77 years ols know.kancho incorparates breathing technique with his karate.HE IS THE BEST IN TEACHING AND CHARACTER
you know what sucks though. without a doubt he is the best in teaching and character (and was even said to be very technically correct back in the day w/ JKA) but nishiyama is going around acting like he's some hot shit saying that he was named the most technically correct and advertising himself as numero uno and kanazawa is too nice to say anything about nishiyama
on the ITKF website, nishiyama was saying, on his website, that "others not belonging to ITKF practice so called 'karate sports' which are merely punching / kicking games with no
Sensei Hidetaka Nishiyama R.I.P, was not calling himself a number one. He was haveing 9dan in Traditional Karate, how many 10dans is in the JKA or other ''Karate''? He was saying truth calling other karate sports punching and kicking games, because it is. For ex. Look at this kata, do u see any connection with mussels and floor? No because is all fake. its only look ''good''. I am glad to train Traditional Karate because is much stronger than other marshal arts. No offence.
He is one of the best, but second on my list at most. However, I respect Kanazawa Sensei as one of the best Karateka I have ever seen. From any style, or system.
I remember training with ITKF dojos: I took some positive concepts from them but really, the degree of "stiffness" that is emphasized in ITKF comes at a price - speed. Preach what you want, but feel free to train with other fighting styles (boxing, muy thai, etc..), You might just discover that big strong guys from other styles can hit pretty hard as well...

Kancho Kanazawa will not involve himself in Nisiyamas politics. He is beyond that and a remarkable human being. Results of Kancho speaks for themself.

exactly, it's because kanazawa has the discipline that all karate-ka try to obtain. that's what puts him above the rest

If only I could be so "fake"! This Kanazawa Senssei on his worst day is better than most on their best.

Kancho Kanazawa does it quite well, but I think this kata is best suited aesthetically by practitioners with heavy set build.
