  • Hey Dom, I have to install this in a basement with concrete floor. Should I use some kind of padding? i also think the cold basement floor will not not have a good seal bewteen laminate! Your thoughts?

  • Per the instructions, it said that you need to leave a 1/8 expansion gap. You didn't do it though. How has it held up? Is the gap even necessary even though they recommend doing it?

  • Can you tell me what color this was? Looks like Maple.. but hard to tell from video.

  • thanks dude

  • Dom, I noticed you were laying this on some sort of wood base floor. Can I lay this stuff right over my existing tile?

Also, I love your enthusiasm in your videos. Stay golden.

  • Great video.

  • Our Allure flooring was professionally installed and in less than three months had worn away exposing the white substance found under the pretty surface. Customer service blamed everything on us and unwilling to uphold their 25 year warranty.

I hope this helps another family. I noticed honest review containing unfavorable feedback is unwelcome and unpublished (thus is unfound) on the most visible and visited sites. We have had this flooring for 3yrs and have covered over the inferior area.

  • @a1cow1 Thank you for your review. I took a piece of sand paper to a sample that I picked up in Home Depot. Yes, you are right it does look white when it scratches. We are still considering it, but are undecided. It is not bullet proof for sure. I appreciate your review. I am going to take sand paper to EVERYTHING we consider now. We had some laminate years ago that was very scratched. But, if I washed the floor with Murphy's oil soap and dried it with a towel, must try that.

  • @morekitchenfun I ran out of room. Maybe that would work on this floor. Will buy some and see.

  • Oh yes. Thanks for the video!

  • @infinadee You welcome and thank you

  • @DominickDiy Hey Dom, it's much easier and mentioned in the instructions to work left to right. That way you don't have to fight putting the sticky edge under the previous sticky edge.

  • @elwood127 Very true. However by having the sticky end covered you have less worry of dropping dust / dirt on it. That was my reason. Besides I'm left handed, LOL

  • Watched your video and installed it in my kitchen. I used Cordoba 211916. It was easy to install and i was very satisfied with the look and strength. Moved the stove and refrigerator across it and had no problem. NOTE: make sure there are 8 in each box. I ended up with 8 short and was hassled trying to get my money back for them. Boxes are heavy and if they are restocked they have excess tape around boxes. Other than that I am very satisfied. Make sure you read instructions.

  • Thanks for the reply. How did the floor you installed here without the spacers hold up? Im trying to avoid pulling the molding. I was just hoping to install it like you showed here.

  • Im confused about leaving the space for expansion. Some articles say to leave 1/8" like a wood floor. Anyone have a definitve answer on this?

  • @DJChris718 They say 1/8 but then again it's really going to depend on how long the longest run is going to be. I would just use 1/4" to be safe. That's what I do and have never had a issue.

  • @DominickDiy Does it cut clean for a toilet drain?

  • @wwe107 It can.. But it's really up to you.. Just use a shape blade and you'll be fine.

  • @DominickDiy Thanks.

  • @DominickDiy Hole saw for water lines won't hurt it?

  • @wwe107 Good Idea.. than would work fine.

  • Comment removed

  • Directions on the box say to leave 1/8" or less along walls

  • This a great product and easy to install. I've done it in my own place and I have also installed it in two of my rentals. Much better then laminate and it won't get damage by water like laminate and install much faster with no tools other then a cutter. I tell you, my friends and family thought it was real wood. I will be installing them all of my rentals as needed, and I have 14.

  • I have a question about how you started the first row. It looks like you started from right to left. Would it make more sense to start left to right so that you won't have to tuck a plank under the board on the right? If you start left to right, you won't have to tuck that end under the other one.. know what I mean? wouldn't that be easier?

  • I've been in construction for 34 years and have never been so frustrated with anything. Yeah it's probably great in a big open room with nothing in the way. Try a 9X4 bathroom and cut around the toilet, water pipes, bathtub and closet. I think I'll just shoot myself just so I don't have to look at it any more. 11 hours is enough.... and I'm not done yet !!!!

  • @close2zen .I know this is a late comment, but try using a heat gun to soften the allure. Makes cutting circles and L-cuts easy....

  • So are you still happy with this product? I'm thinking about putting this in my kitchen, have you heard of anyone saying it doesn't stick? Or any other complaints?

  • great video for a newbie, looks like fun!

  • @5AMconductions It really is fun, it's even better once you're done

  • Mine was installed by a professional 2 weeks ago and it lifts and 'bubble' where there is sunlight. (Even if it's a little sunlight through the window.) Funny thing is, that it is not yet summer and not so hot yet. When it is colder at night, the bubbles seem worse or it may be the light. I think the supplier wants to make it my problem. This fine Chinese product...

  • GREAT VIDEO you r definitely a character and I like the way you explained things. You should get paid for this stuff. Only confusing thing was that I wanted to know right away why and if there wasn't going to be any adhesive between the bottom of the flooring and the ground itself. Isn't that bad for moisture/mold/stability? Thanks for the great vid

  • what do you think about the underseal foam product some people put down on the plywood or osb - is it needed?

Thanks for the vid it helped ! Bruce

  • @bruiserstang Yes Bruce, me , sorry I was not listening when that part of the vid came on, question answered, thanks so much for the vid and advice, love the accent!

  • very helpful. Thanks.

  • i want to install over my wood floors, but some parts are uneven. will it be a problem?

  • You didn't get into that word "catostrophic" in the start of this video. If everyone is like me that word really scrares me! How about it?

  • @sonofmabarker Catastrophic, pay attention while installing the floor making sure all your edges are good. Otherwise it wont look right when you get more of the floor layed down. Catastrophic

  • Oh hell yes. Thats whats really awesome about this floor. However, do not install over carpet.

  • I'm considering putting this in my apartment but my question is...the floors are so uneven.. would it be alrite to just lay this allure flooring on top of my existing crummy floors? or will it pull away eventually..thx for any help

  • Just a quick question i'm a little confused I will be installing this product within the next couple of weeks over my concrete, and you mentioned you can go right up against the wall, then I see you mentioned having a gap, which is the correct way, I realize this is vinyl and shouldn't expand like wood laminate?

  • @swil24 You can, but you should leave some room for expansion. Like a 1/4 inch is good.

  • @DominickDiy ..1/8th expansion is all that is required with Allure.

  • @swil24 you dont need a a gap, it is not real wood and wont expand only leave a gap with real wood or laminate i dont see him saying leave a gap

  • What underlay do you have there? I currently have magnacite underlay - would Allure work on that?

  • If your going over concrete i recommend laying a 6 mil plastic taping the seams with packing tape before you lay this down....standing water will ALWAYS find seams

  • How has this floor held up so far? I'm thinking of installing it in a few of my rental homes as well as an area in my own home.

  • 2 questions please. First I read somewhere that there should be an 1/8” gap between the wall and plank, I didn’t notice that in the vid, is that necessary? My second is, and believe most important, I’ll be installing this after removing carpet which will be being placed over concrete, which is the home’s slab. Other than thoroughly cleaning should there be any further prep to the concrete slab, or should plywood be installed beforehand. This will be installed in a Central Fl. home. thanks...

  • @The1Ledgewalker Yes you should have a gap. You can go right on top of the concrete.

  • @DominickDiy Thanks, and appreciate the quick response. If I may, I’d like to ask, running planks up to tub, whats best vertical or horizontal (length or width) Plus should I run a bead of expandable caulk for cosmetic purposes around tub & commode? Thanks again...have a safe week...

  • This is a good product & I install a lot of it.

Others who are interested in installing this product may want to install it starting with the end adhesive side up instead of down to prevent the piece form picking up any unseen particles from the floor.

Once you get a small particle on the adhesive & you connect the two pieces together there’s a good chance you can ruin the adhesive qualities & pieces by trying to take them apart to remove the particle.

    Save money & headaches.

  • @cymoonmonkey Very true , however I like doing like for the simple reason I don't have to worry about dirt falling on top of the glue strip. Good idea if you're not going to finish up the same day. Works for me, but hey just how many ways can you slice a kitty, LOL

  • Look at those shears at 4:12 ..... These are the biggerst scissors I've ever seen!

  • can you use glue for an extra tight hold or does it stay pretty well on its own with the glue strip??

  • Putting ours in this weekend. 400 SF living room and hallway. Can't wait. Thanks for the great video. Gives us hacks the confidence we need.

  • Thanks for the great vid. I've been considering this type flooring to replace my icky old carpet. How has it worn? any problem with expanding or gaps or anything? Most reviews i've read have been good but a few people had issues so was wondering in your opinion about the quality. Also, does the color look the same whether its in sunlight or not?

  • @gaylasheree That's exactly why we're putting ours in this weekend. Goodbye icky old carpet.

  • Thanks for the great how to video. We are Moving our small retail shop to a new location and the commercial carpet in the new location does not work for us. So we are looking at different options. Can this stuff be installed over the existing commercial carpet? Also how do you think this stuff will hold up in a retail environment?

  • Hello Dominick,

Your instruction was the bomb! I am a single female and I think I can do this. One question, home depot said I should put down a moisture protector called visqueen. you said it may inhibit the ease of installation. what is your opinion. Sarasota florida concrete floor.

    thank you

  • ok, you started on the wrong side! Always have the sticky side up!

Did you even read the directions? They say to leave 1/8 inch gap on all sides and roll out the seams with a roller.

  • @acjclaker I installed this flooring in my house 5 years ago. Butted it right up against the wall. No expansion, no contraction despite temp swings. And he DID install it sticky side up. That dark grey part he's talking about is the sticky side, and it is facing up.

  • ok you started on the wrong side. Always have the sticky side up!

  • did you use a roller on the floor after you finish everything?

  • This stuff is awesome.. Great DIY video too.

I did a bathroom that was a bit more complicated with lots of corners and cuts but the tip with the shears works great

  • After watching this video 55 times LOL, I purchased this flooring. Awesome! Be patient on first & secod row. Smooth sailing after that! This flooring is perfect for concrete floors, uneven floors! Very forgiving! One plank at a time...slowly!

  • After watching this video 55 times LOL, I purchased this flooring. Awesome! Be patient on first & secod row. Smooth sailing after that! This flooring is perfect for concrete floors, uneven floors! Very forgiving! One plank at a time...slowly! I am installing this as of now. This product is a fast install, even if you are doing this for the first time, like me! :) Go slowly, it pays off!

  • Im going to put this in rest room and laundry room my question is really no padding required !?????

  • Great instructional video, perfectly done and explained well. You describe this product better than their own commercial on the Home Depot site. Thank you for making this.

  • You did great on this!! I went out to purchase this product yesterday!! After looking at many products to put on my concrete slab flooring, this product won hands down. this is going to save us thousands of dollars on labor!! It really is a do it yourself project. I will let you know how the project turns out!!

  • This is going in my small galley kitchen this weekend... I'm a single mom and a do-it-yourself'er. Thanks for the great video, Gave me more confidence!

  • This is incredible. Sounds like an amazing option for my basement. Does it really feel grainy like wood?

  • @MeAndHubbyToo yea, it really does. Or at least the stuff I used does.

  • Installed Allure on main floor of our old farmhouse. It handles deflection very well. One note though; the dogs find it slippery. We had to lay mats for the 13 year old GSD as she has 'old hips' now.

  • Dom, I am installing 600 sq. ft. of 1' x 3' Allure floor (stone look). I have a couple of marble saddles I have to trim up to and a dry well 8" x 8" grate. Also 3 round basement pole beam supports. Would you apply any glue to these cut areas? Just looking for an opinion. If so any particular adhesive?

  • That looks great, I want to pull up the carpet and lay some type flooring this looks like what I need. Can I lay that over my concrete floor? I have have a very small living room 12X14 how cheap it the allure to in stall compared to some type of wood flooring.

  • @cloverct We just installed 500 sq for for $900. Tearing up the carpet and the floor prep took most of the time. Once you get going you fly through it.

  • @UTTuba Thanks I'm go give it a try on my very small living room 10X10 I'll let you know how it comes out. Thanks.

  • This video is great I'm going for it next week, I'm single female and I'm gonna do this I'll let you know how it comes out. The room is 10x10.

  • He says you do not need to leave space between the wall and the plank, but the Allure instructions clearly state to leave at least 1/8" and also have a picture showing the material with spacers against the wall during installation (although it does not state to use them). It also states NOT to use this product in an RV and also to use a 75 - 100lb floor roller after install to secure the bonds. Any thoughts anyone?

  • Is it ok min an rv? Where temps rang from very cold to hot. What do you think?

  • @kimsfishface I think that would be fine. But I would really check with the manufacture

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!! Getting ready to have a new floor in the mudroom and laundry room!!!!

  • how do you cut the boards down the length for the last row? it seems like it would be very hard to keep a perfectly straight line with those shears.

  • l0l- during the video he touches the gluestrip and then says 'can you feel that?'.

  • @str222111 Oh I'm sorry I didn't see your video here. Please provide us with the link to your video please..

  • thank you so much for this video. It has really helped!

  • very nice video. we are installing this through our entire home. 4 dogs....no more carpet. can you explain what to do at the door jambs. how to cut it or slide it under. we will be taking it straight into the hallway from rooms so this would be helpfull to know what to do. thanks.

  • This may have been a good video, but you started right off saying to butt the "over" edge right up against the wall. NOT SO. The edge needs to be 1/8" inch away from the wall to allow for minor expansion PER INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS.

The 1/8" gap is best concealed by removing the baseboard, or cutting the baseboard at the bottom, & slipping the edge underneath. Or install quarter round over it afterward. If you don't leave an expansion gap, it'll buckle the planks, and the glue edges come apart.

  • @macsong053I

t's not real wood - so no need to worry about expansion. I have had Allure in my basement for almost two years. Never had a problem with expansion or pulling up. If it were to pull up, simply use a hair dryer to heat it up and re-seal. Great flooring for rooms that are prone to getting wet.

  • Nice vid. One question: how do you install them on stairs? Can this even be done? Do they make a matching vinyl stair tread or something? I want to lay this stuff in my entire house, but I have stairs.

  • @mymytheysigh instructions say not to use on stairs.

  • Thanks so much, Your video has given me a clear idea of how to do this, I also had to comment Because your mannerisim of talking is like that of the Seagull (skuttle) in the little mermaid. Just thought you might like to know, I find the resemblance awesome. lol

  • The floor is being installed backwards in this video. You should start on the left so the end adhesive strip is facing up. You can do it as demonstrated where you have to, but that should only be done as a last resort.

  • @BriansVideoHobby that was the first thing I noticed too!!

  • @BriansVideoHobby I noticed that, too

  • DominickDiy@ what do i put under the allure floors

  • @onedark300 nothing. just install directly on top of the sub floor.

  • Show us how to cut the allure boards, not just trim off the excess sticky edge.

  • Dominic, can you tell me how you recommend cleaning the floor to remove the marks made by tennis shoes, etc. Just the smudges and scuffs that come with everyday wear. I would love some advice. We installed this in our living room and LOVE IT, but am curious what YOU have done for cleaning. Thanks.

  • My hot water heater leaked and water ran under the vinyl. It has come unstuck. How do I repair it?

  • @flynnfarms Instructions say to use a heat gun and slowly pull the planks apart. Then use your extra stored planks from your overage to replace the damaged ones.

  • Thanks for the video. I took your advice and bought the shears. It definitely made the job go easier. They cost about $25.00 but the time and aggravation they saved me from it was well worth it.

For my floor I used some premixed floor leveler on some of the subfloor joints to make sure I had a smooth surface. Also, you want to watch the glue strips for little bits of wood or stone that get stuck on them.

  • wait so there is one for 55.00 on home depot . Is that for 1 piece, or how many pieces does it come with. It is the allure one.

  • Nice video but only one small mistake

It's better to start from the left, that way the sticky strip on the side it's allways facing up, that way you don't have to shove the next piece from underneath. Cause this practice could potentially damage the integrity of the glue catching dust or particles from the subfloor, plus it makes installation much faster.

  • You can install this on any type of floor just make sure the vinyl floor underneath is not poping up . But if it is just cut around the areas where this is happening, like the edges, etc. vinyl or linolium floors are so thin that it won't show where you cut out, cause this floating floor is rigid enough to hide small dips.

  • @byronsantos72

    Thanks!

  • Has anyone ever installed this over an existing vinyl floor? I have hideous faux brick in my kitchen and would like to cover it, but the slightly textured surface concerns me. I'm wondering if I need to try to scrape up the old flooring first?

  • Is there something like this that can be used for the garage? BTW I live in Houston and humidity is really high here...

Thanks for the video is really informative

  • Thanks! we just bought a pallet of these today and my husband got frustrated... no instructions. Thank God for Youtube and YOU! :)

one guy in another video said they're hard to cut, but now i dont think so. we just need some of those vinyl sheers you have.

Thanks again! our carpet is over 24 years old in a used home... i HATE it. cant wait to get my new floor!

  • i have a question. dose the floor have stiky stuff on the bottom like dose it actually stick to the floor

  • @Burghlax no, the planks just stick to each other. ir is called a floating surface or something..

  • @Burghlax no it is a floating floor

  • Thank-you for the video, I am about to do 600 sq. feet in my house.... you video is helpful.

  • @ClinicalHypnosis Very cool. Glad I could help.

  • Instructions on this says to leave one-eighth inch gap against walls for expansion.

  • I posted in the wrong thread on your website. The video is especially helpful, but I've read quite a few reviews of the Allure flooring where people complain that it eventually peels up along the sticky strip. Have you noticed this? I'll put this above grade on a plywood subfloor, but I've even read where it peels almost as bad above as it does below grade. Any thoughts?

  • @stercaland All good. I replied to your question on my site.

  • @stercaland yo...i'm a flooring contractor and have had issues with the Allure floor coming up when the glue gives away. especially if there's a thin piece that was used on one of the edges.

  • I'm having a really hard time getting a straight, even cut that lines up with the next plank--I'm trying to stagger my planks....any suggestions????

  • @corrae1 Yes I do.. You don't cut them. You only cut the planks at the ends where the wall is. And these ends would be covered up by trim.

  • Thanks so much--I'm about to try this myself for the first time--any suggestions for laying the floor in a bathroom? I'm a bit worried about going around the toilet! Excellent video--thank you again!

  • @corrae1 I would just remove the toilet . It will make a nice looking job and help with any wetness under the toilet. just use a little caulk around the toilet.

  • Thanks for the video! This is really going to help for our project tomorrow!

  • I've read alot about odor as well. Have you noticed this to be a problem?

  • @shippy1225 If there is a bad odor I don;t know about it.

  • @shippy1225 I just did another floor and for a lady who can smelled a release from my backside 20 minutes before she came in the room and said nothing about the odor from the new floor. Yes very true story. LOL

  • can this be put over commercial carpet?

  • @chrisolava112066 NO... you will want to install this or any floor over something solid.

  • is there odor? I read everywhere that there is some serious issue with scratch and odor problem that wouldn't go away....

  • @LokBuddha not that I know of. I installed a few of these floors now and not one person has said anything about a bad odor.

  • I'm considering using this product in a bathroom... what would you recommend to trim instead of quarter round... like a mop board or something that would also be durable and waterproof.

  • @blessedmom5 you could use a vinyl base trim.

  • What are the wall thing at the end of the video? is it necessary to do it? if so, how do you do it? (material/procedure.) This will be my first time doing flooring

  • @LokBuddha That is quarter round. It's a small trim to cover the edges up without removing the existing base trim.

  • I do have a question. I may be be installing it in a hallway and adjoining bedrooms. What is the best way to position the planks? Will they look ok if I have them going one way in the hallway and then place the bedroom planks perpendicular to them? Thanks.

  • @shippy1225 No, I think it will bad. Always try to run them the same direction.

  • Thank you for the video. I am about to use allure in my living room and your video was a big help.

  • @shippy1225 Thank you very much.

  • is it easy to cut a small piece because some part of my wall aren't perfectly straight? I live in mobile home, need to pull up the carpet.

  • @LokBuddha Very very easy to cut.

  • i might put this in my basement and i was wondering how i could install this on the stairs?

  • @Luke13PL Check with Home Depot and see if they make stair parts for this floor. I'm just not sure if they do or not they should soon would be my guess.

  • We plan on installing Allure very soon in our living room and adjoining hallway. Dominic, there are a couple of small steps in our hall, so I was wondering if you had any suggestions on how to do them. Since the tile, technically, should run long way down the hall, what about the steps? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. And thanks for posting the video.

  • @dkklwohl1 I'm not sure what they make for stairs or not. I would just check with Home Depot and see if they make stair parts for it.

  • It is best to start the row so tat you laying on top of the glue strip in lieu of having to run it under the previous piece.

    Nice video though!

  • what color/style did you use?

  • @internjim That was maple blond or maple blond from Home Depot

  • hey the instructions say to cut off the glueless part of the board that goes against the wall... im installing it now im not sure what i shuld do?

  • @KanYeLife Yes that would be a good idea. I missed showing that in this video. Reason being that I was in rush. Trying to fill this and get the job done in a short time.

  • that stuff looks real cool...try that in me basement....

  • It really is fantastic stuff. I was amazed on how nice it looks.

  • it looks like a good product. is it compariable in cost with laminate or other flooring?

  • As with laminate the sky is the limit. This floor was bought at Home Depot and was something like 179. a sq. foot. And no padding used. As with a laminate you need that padding and that can be like 150. a sq. of even more. So big savings with this type of floor.

  • I put the Allure down in my living room over the past summer and just love it. The stuff is amazing. I can use a swifter to clean or a bucket and a wet mop.

  • Yes it really is. And so so easy to install.

  • @VinnieSutra And you've had no peeling up? I've read a lot of reviews where people claim there floor is doing it (likely they never watched this video before doing it).

  • @stercaland - I've had absolutely no problems with the floor peeling. The adhesive strips on this stuff is extremely strong so that once joined it should remain intact.

  • That's the ticket!

  • Thank you.
