Marching that is hard. But it's not fun especially for me, a percussionist that plays tenors. Crush rolls on old show drums are rly boring to play and watch. I just don't like it because it's military style.
i am TEXAS EX Life Member 17021 and Your band is great, why would anyone be so disrespectful as to leave during this performance and especially during Your filming
@cheng2012 Most marching bands march sideways, with their horns pointed toward a specific direction no matter which way they're moving. It's called sliding and backwards marching. That way all your sound is pointed in one direction.

I've been in two college marching bands, and of all the bands I've seen, the Texas A&M band does the best exhibition of precision formation marching. Never attended one of their games as a spectator but have been to three as a band member, and they are GREAT.
@spider47 I'm not saying they're not impressive, all I'm saying is they don't appeal to my particular marching band taste. I agree, their drill is quite astounding, I just prefer the competition style done by drum corps and some colleges.
Ok, I can dig that. My preferences are probably also colored by my military service as well as my long membership in marching bands for nine years from jr. high thru three college years; marching in not only football halftime shows but various contests and parades. Uh, and I must say, I've never seen a band marching in the style you mentioned. Supply me w a link or three?
@spider47 Really? Because it's pretty standard. Unfortunately youtube won't let me post links, but look up "Spartacus", performed by Phantom Regiment. Almost all colleges and high schools march with their horns in one direction, I'm not really sure what you're talking about.
hmm. I've never seen a band perform that way, as I said. Did look up "Spartacus" as you mentioned... LOL, wish the female 'slaves' had worn the same tunics as the male 'slaves' did... It was an interesting performance, but not to my tastes. As I mentioned, my preferences are probably colored by my own experiences as a band member and my military service. Precision marching drill has evolved from army battlefield drill, from when armies had to manuver so to fight.
@spider47 I can respect that, we are all entitled to our own opinions. And likewise my preferences are probably colored by my own experiences in high school marching bands
To be honest, tho, I may simply being old-fashioned. It's been 35 years since was in a band, and the last time I went to a college game was 11 years ago. I know, I'm dating myself, lol. Even so, the college band half time shows I've watched here have all been the classic type marching that I'm used to, including some performances just in the last few years. Perhaps the type of marching you're used to may be a regional thing? Just asking...
I shot this video with a Sanyo Xacti HD700. It is a nice little camera that shoots HD video (720p). It shoots great video and takes great photos, but doesn't perform so well in low light.
haha aggies.

@Lithoxene The flash just isn't as bright when he zooms in as it is when the field is widened out.

Lines look good, but besides that...lame. You can hardly hear them, and they even get to look the direction they march

what are you trying to say?
that bands should march sideways with their heads turned 180 degrees?
