  • where did you get magnesium nitrate

  • @thegodofchemistry Hardware store as a fertilizer

  • could you do the same thing with say ammonium bicarbonate on a small scale of course i'm not a TERRORIST! lol

  • @crapbag1997 So what u mean by this is "can ammonium nitrate be made instead of sodium nitrate?" Hmmm I don't see why not... For the reaction to work, one must precipitatemat the end... Magnesium carbonate would precipitate, carbon dioxide would be released while ammonium nitrate stays in solution... Sounds about right, only one way to find out :) are you going to try it?

  • @pyroscience42 Yeah it can, just have 80 grams of ammonium nitrate and 84 grams of sodium bicarbonate, ,ix with water, boil off the ammonium bicarbonate and and crystilise the sodium nitrate... Note: this isn't a precipitation reaction

  • Holy-Terrorist:>*=* mixing a, magnesium nitrate Mg(NO3)2 + sulfuric acid H2SO4 = magnesium sulfate MgSO3(Epsom salt) + nitric acid HNO3x2, in 96% with great improvised procedure can make pure nitric acid, warning, this procedure are very dangerous!

  • well i do my research on the chemicals i need and all then find their use for it, once i know what its used for then i can go out and look for it, took me a few months to find ammonium nitrate but once i found it now i can regularly buy it without the government even knowing about it

  • ware the hell do you get this stuff

  • I done a video on this method of making sodium nitrate awhile ago, I am also from Australia. I got quite alot of product from this method, recently I have made a few other nitrates, so check out my channel :)

  • If all the sodium bicarbonate isn't decomposed you will have contaminated product thus it would be a good idea to boil the solution in a glass beaker until it stops giving off carbon dioxide. 2. When you boil down the sodium nitrate you should constanlly mix it to prevent decomposition. Keeping the temp below 200 celcius is key,

  • I can only see 2 things that could be improved in this method. 1. When you add the sodium bicarbonate to the magnesium nitrate solution the heat causes the sodium bicarbonate to decompose in to water sodium carbonate and carbon dioxide the sodium carbonate then reacts with the magnesium nitrate to percipate out magnesium carbonate.
