I think texting while driving should be illegal, not necessarily holding a cell phone. But I do agree that stopping both activies would prevent accidents & save lives as anything that distracts the driver or restricts his or her freedom of movement increases risk, and texting does both of these.

I drive and talk on teh phone basicly every day, well atleast every day Iäm working, patroling security guard, almost always have someone I have to call or who calls me, it is not illegal to talk on the phone and drive here (Sweden) however if something would happen, you're the one who will (most likly) have to pay for the damages (unless it is very obviouss that your talking on the phone had nothing to do with it).

I think there should be a graduated license system that allows not only cellphone usage while driving, but also exceeding the speed limit - for people who are capable of doing more than one thing at a time. In my place, people would usually stop at the side of the road to answer calls. This is a good way instead of just ignoring the call as some calls could be an emergency.

Its a very important law, I wish it was enforced here. A few teeagers have been killed here because the driver was on their cell phone. Its gotten worse, there are people now driving and texting at the same time.

On the issue of the law in California, I live in Southern California, and I don't know if I completely agree one way or the other. I think there should be a graduated license system that allows not only cellphone usage while driving, but also exceeding the speed limit - for people who are capable of doing more than one thing at a time. I have lots of speeding tickets, but no accidents where I was at fault! I am not "fresh off the boat" and drive quite well according to my passengers.

here in venezuela there is a district law that prohibits driving ans talking over the phone like the califonian law in USA.

No, I don't usually talk on the phone while driving. It is because my concentration on the road could be attracted to the phone.
In my place, people would usually stop at the side of the road to answer calls. This is a good way instead of just ignoring the call as some calls could be an emergency.

Yeah it should be a law not to talk on cell phones while driving. The exception could be if you have a hands- free device for your car so that you can have both hands on the wheel.

Government shouldn't treat people like children. Adults can make their own decisions about what it's safe to do while driving. Life always has some risk. People have become way too safety-obsessed. There used to be a word for that -- cowardice. Ironic, isn't it, that this law was passed in the United States, the "home of the brave?"

I have never driven whilst chatting on the phone, but then again I'm not a chatty person.
It's illegal here in the UK to use a mobile phone whilst driving, and has been for a year or so now.

Its a very important law, I wish it was enforced here. A few teeagers have been killed here because the driver was on their cell phone. Its gotten worse, there are people now driving and texting at the same time.

On the issue of the law in California, I live in Southern California, and I don't know if I completely agree one way or the other. I heard of a study that proved it didn't matter if you were holding the phone, or that the Bluetooth headset made things any easier. I love the show by the way, good luck.

I think we already have too many laws. This would just give the police one more reason to justify pulling you over. We need to promote responsible cell phone use while driving and stop allowing the government to place further restrictions on us. I thought this was America people.

It is a good law for the fact that talking and holding something take a percent of you focus away from driving and with that percent with you, you can make better actions and get better results from it. I dont, I don't drive.

its a stupid law, because i still drink and drive, so this just gives me an extra hand to hold 2 beers, thats statement is only half true, but still very real.
also, what good is a law forbidding me from holding one specific item, yet makes no assertion at limiting the my hands at holding other types of items.
the "safety factor" of the law is a joke, because 300 lives is not a material amount of Life to justify burdening the rest of us, banning fast food would be a more logical noble cause.

A stupid law? I love America and the freedoms we used to enjoy. I absolutely think the government should micromanage our behavior for our own protection every chance it can get. There are so many dangerous behaviors that just should be outlawed, like talking on the phone, smoking a cigar, not wearing a helmet, eating fatty foods, and premarital sex that we NEED to be protected from. Otherwise, it would be mass anarchy and the carnage would be tragic. Thank God CA ligislators are enlightened!

I'm happy that this law was passed in my state. People get distracted and drive horribly while talking on their cellphones.
